Like I said, collectors.
Plus the article even states that it's the older generations that listen to them. So I was right in both points. Collectors and 50 year olds.

"Complicating matters is that 50% of people who are buying the records aren’t even listening to them. It’s easy to speculate that it’s probably this same, younger age group that doesn’t even own a turntable (or chooses not to play their LPs). The older generation see more likely to actually listen to their purchases (imagine that), especially given their attachment to the feeling of listening to analog sounds. "

Collectors are buying physical media and casual viewers are getting subscriptions and renting. So who is it that's buying digital purchases like iTunes and Vudu?

People that love movies but don't want 1500 cases of blu-rays and DVDs taking up space in their house

I use more efficient cases.

By the end of December 2016, vinyl sales had overtaken Digital download sales for that month. Not so long ago a great many bafoons were telling us Digital downloads were the future. Now a ancient format has risen and embarrassed the MP3 format. I wouldn't call that insignificant. 2.4 million had been spent and that will have increased by now obviously.

The point is, Digital HD downloads are the new MP3. Forgotten while subscriptions rise to the top and disc carries on its proud tradition of providing people with the best A/V quality. Aregue all you want, but the evidence is there if you look hard enough.

MP3s were the future but the future has come and gone. Nothing is ever permanent. The new thing which is subscription music apps is still digital and just a transition from mp3s. These apps lets you listen to songs and albums on demand and let you download for offline listening for about $10 a month so it's an improvement over buying mp3s for $1.00 each.

So how can anyone think that digital purchases of movies will be big in the future?

Netflix doesn't offer every movie like the music apps have most major albums.

But the subscription services have devalued the perception of how much a digital movie should cost. If cheap codes ever go away most people will just stick with subscriptions for most of their entertainment with an occasional $1-$5 rental of the movies they really want. I don't see digital movie purchases for $10-$20 each ever being popular.

People who buy hundreds of physical movies are rare but they far outnumber the people who buy hundreds of digital movies. The rental market has shifted to digital, but the purchase market is sticking with physical.

Physical copies all the way here!!!

I love the security of having physical media of my favorite movies/series without worrying about them being dropped by Digital streaming media (like NetFlix, etc.) Granted, I've yet to delve into the world of Digital media but I've heard/read so many stories from people complaining of their favorite movies/series being dropped from various streaming services that I'd want to have physical copies so I could watch them whenever I want to.

I personally view Digital media as a "bonus" rather than my "go-to" as explained above. I like the comfort and luxury of having control over what I can watch whenever I want to watch it, so Digital media only will never cut it for me.

Whenever I finally get into Digital streaming I'd use it like the old days of renting physical videos. The advantage of paying around $10/month to watch as many movies as you want is a pretty awesome deal! Plus it would help me decide what movies/series to buy in physical format so I wouldn't be wasting a ton of money "blind buying" movies/series.

PS. Hey PenguinMaster! I can't help but imagine your Avatar being a scene of an alternative "Happy Feet" scene ...Plus Penguins are awesome and awesomely cute!

Digital sells great when it's cheap: mobile games, subscriptions, micro-transactions, movie rentals, individual MP3s, etc.

But when paying more than $10 for a single movie or more than $20 for a single game most people still choose physical media.
I've been buying digital games through Steam for more than $20. I also bought digital games for my XBox One. For games, I buy digital. Even buying PC games at retail stores, I have to redeem the key through my Steam account, Origin account, or Uplay account, depending on the PC game I bought. There is no quality loss in digital games. I even buy digital games at full price sometimes. I don't like swapping discs. For movie and TV shows, it's different for me. I have never bought a digital movie over $8 (before sales tax). I recently bought The Little House on the Prairie Complete Series for $19.99 directly from Vudu. That's cheaper than buying the digital codes for the first six seasons of the show and I got all 9 season digitally. Now if I could get the complete series on blu-ray for the same price, I most likely would have gone with the blu-rays. I nearly own what I want on blu-ray anyways. There is not much more that I want to buy on blu-ray. I have limited shelf space and reselling them is a hassle for so little money. I mostly just buy UV codes these days for low prices and if I didn't like the movie, no big deal because of the low price I paid for it and I don't have to go through the hassle of reselling a blu-ray for so little money.

Unless they truly don't have the space for them (I live in an apartment, and have managed to find space for my collection. They are out in the open, however they look neat and tidy, and don't interfere/get in the way of other day to day things that you do around the home), only men that are submissive to their partners wants, or men that want their home to look like what they see in architecture articles, because they care about what other people think, would care about this (you know the ones, people that put their tv's above their fireplace, hide all their speakers etc).

It's a scene from Futurama. It's in the episode The Birdbot of Ice-Catraz.

This discussion came up earlier. Most people who are buying digital games are either buying cheap games on mobile or higher quality versions of games on PC. While both of those markets are much bigger than console games a digital-only console isn't going to appeal to either of them.

The person that can take my 1500+ movies anywhere I want. I'm at a friends house, I sign on to their Vudu app and there we can select and watch any of my 1500 movies. Movie night anywhere.

Is it that difficult to pick out a movie before you go to your friend's house and bring it with you?

It's better as a group to select from the Vudu screen where you can scroll up and down and break it down by categories like horror and comedy.
Until you've actually used Vudu, don't knock it.

If I go to a friend's house I'd rather watch their movies, not mine. They're not a very good host if they want you to BYOM.
