I wonder if your player is doing some kind of auto-detection.

These specs suspiciously line up with what's on the back of the packaging for the new box set.
It says there's a DTS-HD 2.0 track for every film except II Donner Cut, and makes no mention of a 5.1 DD track. Did WB quietly print a new disc for STM and start selling it in the 2018 packaging? Mine also didn't come with a slip for whatever that's worth. |

Mine has a slip and says 5.1 on the back. If yours doesn't say 5.1, that's definitely different from what I have.

But the disc itself matches the specs listed for the new boxset which are the other way around: Atmos and DTS-HD 2.0 but no DD 5.1. And it defaults to the Atmos, which the 2018 disk apparently doesn't. Very, very strange. |

I just compared my disc label to a picture of the 2018 release. The Ultra HD logo is in a completely different spot on mine and there's a Dolby Vision logo instead of the generic HDR one.

Extremely disappointing if they've removed the 5.1 (from the Dolby 6-track split-surround) to replace it with the Dolby Stereo/Surround 2.0 (which is really, really wimpy in comparison). The Atmos mix (from the Thau 2001 mix) belongs solely with the 2001 Special Edition, not the 1978 theatrical version. The theatrical version needs all the versions of the original theatrical audio (lossless), of which the Dolby 6-track split surround is the best. Last edited by KC-Technerd; 03-12-2023 at 07:11 AM. |

Well this confirms what I suspected all along based on the packaging of the boxset. Sorry you had to get the disc this way.
Since you seem to have the new disc, could you check out Christopher Reeve's credit in the opening titles around 2:15? The 2018 disc has a glitch at that spot (the blurred credit turns orange for one frame). I took screen grabs of it. |

What do you mean by "new disc"? Is this a representation of what the box set will have? When did this new disc replace the original one?

Quick questions, just to be sure about the S:TM UHD:
- The US edition has the TC Blu-ray from the Anthology set on disc 2, right? - The UK edition has the SE Blu-ray on disc 2. Is it the old 2006 disc or the Anthology one? And does the UHD only have the Salking/Spengler commentary or some other extras on disc 1? |

However...there is a smaller Anthology set that omits a couple of the special features discs and only includes 1 cut of Superman 2 so make sure you get the 8 disc set to get everything. |

![]() I was only asking as Supes I SE got first released in 2006 in Blu with a DD compressed track and some extras missing, whereas the 2011 SE disc got it right. So you would prefer the second option anyway BUT the 2006 disc still gets baked in some editions from time to time. |

Okay so for anyone who hasn't been following long in the thread for the box set, this disc I have (as far as I can tell without having the 2018 disc in hand) has the exact same video presentation, with the orange flash on Reeve's name, the nuclear highlights on Krypton, etc. To be 100% positive someone with both discs would have to compare them side by side, but we're pretty sure this is the case.
The menu on the new disc is different and the 5.1 option is not present, period. There's also no digital copy included, and while the outer cover has been amended to reflect this, the audio specs weren't updated so they now incorrectly claim there's a 5.1 DD track included. By all appearances, this is the disc that's going to be in the upcoming box set, because its specs perfectly match the details on the back cover that we've seen: DTS-HD 2.0 but not DD 5.1. It seems WB quietly replaced the old disc without telling anyone and forgot to update the back of box correctly. So if you want the 5.1, do not throw out your 2018 disc and do not order new on Amazon right now, which is where I got mine. The new edition does not mention a digital copy anywhere on the cover and it does not come with a slipcover. |
