Blu-ray.COM does have a section for Digital Movies for those that prefer that method of viewing.
He started in 2011, telling us that Blu-ray won’t have major releases if sales don’t increase soon. 2,000 Blu-rays later, I’m snapping them up by the ship load.

Now I can't remember, but I just saw BD artwork for an Apple TV+ series coming soon. There's no mention of a 4K disc release, so there's no real reason for me to pick it up if I can just stream the APTV+ feed in 4K DV/Atmos. As much as I love stuff on APTV+ such as Physical and Foundation, if they were to release those series on BD only, I'll stick with the 4K digital versions on the service.

EDIT - My deluxe hardcover edition of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood arrived yesterday. It's a gorgeous edition and has tons of supplemental materials.

If you deleted all post that did not pertain to physical disc and EST then there would not be many post here.

For Lee this is OT.

If I start a ATV+ title on the ATV then stop and come back the next day and continue all I get is a spinning star. I have to select Play from Beginning to get it to play. Works if in the same session. Could you check on yours. I am still on tvOS 14.7

Mine remembers where I left off. I am current with firmware, as well. Every once in a while it might forget and start me up from the beginning but I just fast forward to where I left off. It's been a while since it did that, though.

Why are you still using 14.7? Keep current Wendell as the apps are updated to work with the latest version of tvOS.

Official releases

tvOS 15 (19J346) - September 20, 2021
tvOS 15.1 (19J572) - October 25, 2021

What useful and positive information? It's the same old same old . . .
  • 4K UHD BD provides the best picture and sound available to consumers
  • When you buy an EST, you don't own it. They can take it away from you anytime they want.

And those two postulates repeat ad nauseam.

You missed the part where digital fans tell us the store shelves are empty while we are busy pressing buy on our laptops.

Would I not need tvOS 15.1.1 to be current?

The crux of the problem: Disc buyers versus Digital buyers.

Here, if you don't buy discs you're a traitor. If you buy digital - you're a weenie.

Meanwhile, outside of this tiny microcosm called BD.com, people buy both with the higher sales numbers going to EST. I wonder how inflation is going to affect purchases. Rising prices on literally everything from gas, rent, food, heating etc. is taking away from disposable cash for entertainment purchases. Industries that depend on that cash like movie theaters, resturants, electronics retailers, etc. can't be excited about the short term future.

That was the whole point, since the days of LD laymen have been posting in enthusiast threads that video cassette and subscription TV were as good as LD. That LD had a small market share, that LD would not last, that LD was very niche, that LD..... Home theater enthusiast know better and will continue to post rebuttals.

Keep this in mind when you post here, myself and many like me support this site by clicking on titles that takes us to Amazon were we purchase said title. In doing so this site receives a commission from those sales. Without us this site would not be here. What have you done to see this site continues? It appears some of you would like to see disc and this site disappear.

I don’t class people who have gone 100% digital as HT enthusiasts.

I just looked in the rules of this site and nowhere did I see that it was mandatory to have members purchase discs through Amazon so this site can get it's cut.

They appreciate it. But they don't demand it.

That's unfortunate. Wonder how you feel about those that are using puny displays instead of a projector and a screen of at least 144".

And for those using projectors - you are missing one of the best features of 4K UHD BD - High Dynamic Range.

HDR is a challange for projectors given they are not native HDR devices. Tone mapping is used to convert the HDR signal to work within the abilities of the projector. Some projectors have processors dedicated to this like Sony X1 for Projectors as an example.

I think the best approach is to have both direct view and projector setups. A lot of people with dedicated home theaters also have a TV or two elsewhere in the house (Not to mention the computer monitors, and other such devices.)

The only real way to do HDR with front projection is to do it the same way that Dolby does - with two projectors. Unfortunately you need a special "box" that would strip out the HDR metadata from the UHD BD HDMI OUT to send to the second projector.
