I had DSL for more than 10 years just because my area did not have anything that offered higher speed. Even if I wanted to pay more the ISP said it just wasn't available. The only option was to move. I found an ISP that offered what I needed at a great price. I've been a happy camper ever since. My DSL speed topped off at 7 MBPS, so I don't even know how I made it that far. Now I have cable and get speeds up to 400mbps.

Everyone has their own Priorities, and they have to take care of those first. Of course Farmers now have Broadband high on their List, and they work with their Community to get the Broadband needed. I'm saying if Broadband is high on that Priority List, then you either work with your Community to get what you want or Move to a location that has it!

We have been very fortunate to travel over most of the continental US and parts of Canada. We travel mostly back roads, state highways and make contact with a lot of people along the way. A lot of rural America is still not served with high speed and most are not going to sell a family home, business, farm that may have been in the family for generations just for higher speed internet.

We live in the sticks (here) and do have high speed internet but many in the area do not.

We have been paying $80 a month just for 300 Mbps internet but now that Morris has sold to Optimum I believe my bill will see a big jump in the future. Optimum now shows my bill as $110 -$30 = $80. They list the -$30 as “Promotion Credit”.

Sounds about right. I'm with Spectrum and I was under the $79.99 price point via "promotion." The regular priced tier is $94.99 for what I currently have. What I did do and qualified for was the government subsidy due to Covid-19. I'm now paying only $39.99 until the subsidy runs out. I've had it for about 5 months so far.

Or buy a disc and then you don't have to worry about it. Much easier than moving in my humble opinion.

From the things I have read, rural folk are interested in satellite internet (from Musk)

I watched Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City last night. I thought it was pretty atmospheric and felt more like a horror movie than Paul Andersons'. There were a few parts where it was just pitch-black. Had some great LFE at the end.

I live near Chicago,

And have Mediacom, and have a 1GB Internet Connection.

They have Fiber Optic cable here.

I get internet and Phone for around a hundred and Fifty.

Well, my sweetie is busy working on her final project for school. So I’m going to take a quick shower and watch Ronin on iTunes. She apparently got access to all of her ex husband’s digital library. Both past and present

I'd say it depends on how big of a fan you are of the games. This movie was more faithful to the original material and had some references to other characters that I appreciated. The action wasn't as stylized as in the original movies with no slow-motion shots or dramatic music playing during them. The first part felt like an actual horror movie with creepy music and long shots that built suspense. Towards the end the action definitely ramps up though. So I think if you want a more horror-oriented take on the games this is worth picking up but if you liked the over-the-top action in the original movies you won't find it here.

My love for RE was resurrected with the incredibly immersive VR game, so it’s gave me a urge to get this, even though I’m normally not mad on video game adaptions.

Would you guys agree that we could use higher quality 4K releases (i.e. ProRes) instead of 8K?

I'm looking forward to getting a PS5 and playing 7 on VR.

I'm happy with most UHD BD releases. Most of them seem better than the Blu Ray.

Does a soundtrack get botched here and there - yes. Sometimes it gets fixed. I don't even know if Psycho ever really got resolved. Universal send me several copies of the Blu when I wanted an updated UHD BD.

I've got ZERO interest in 8K. Even though I purchased an 8K (capable with pixel shifting) projector I don't plan on using 8K.

Apple has a ProRes video format but it's not limited to 4K.

It's thrilling. I haven't got very far with it. I do plan on hooking up the PS4 and WiiU soon as kids are coming home for vacation and have mentioned wanting to play Video Games.

I've personally played enough Video Games. I got over my interest in it and I save more screen time for movies.

Could ProRes be referring to the resolution that movies are projected at (4096 x 2160) vs. the consumer resolution of 3840 x 2160?

IMHO, we are unlikely to ever get any 4:2:2 content via consumer distribution (physical, OTA, IPTV, etc.). ProRes is/was used to distribute content to streamers for creating their streaming files. Same forKaleidescape.

50GB movie @ 8 Mbps ≈ 14 hours.

Download times was the biggest gripe with Sony FMP-X1 and X10 owners.
Does K have large files and on a slow connection it can take a looong time? absolutely. Will there be people that have an issue with long DL times? absolutely. Will there be others that don't care if it takes a day or two? absolutely ,and that is what you are missing by assuming it must be a problem with everyone else.

Let me explain where I am coming from. I have a large collection of films (on physical media) that is divided in different categories. One of the categories is films that I have Bought but have not seen that copy yet. Right now I have 73 films and one partially watched TV series in that category. The last time I bought anything was Nov 19 from BB. I did not go to the store to buy them so I can start watching in 1/2 an hour I did not care they split it into 4 packages and they arrived on 3 different days. All I care is if I have a large collection of films in my home so that I can pick something that matches what I feel like and can start watching immediately.

If I had a K (not interested in it right now) I would never be the guy that goes to the store, picks a film and waits there 1/2h (according to K that is about the best case scenario at top speed) before I can watch it, I would also not be the guy that earlier in the day goes to pick a film for that evening so that I am not the guy waiting. tried both of those things when I was a renter and more patient at wasting my time and effort back when I was a renter roughly 30 years ago. Those two things played a role in me becoming a collector. I can always just sit down and watch what I want when I want with no compromises

that being said if K (or someone else) were to have a system that I can afford and uses 8k 4:4:4 lossless video DL that take a week for me to DL I would seriously be considering it.

As for the Sony FMP-X10 I get what you are saying and you are the expert on it, but it is not the same thing which I believe makes it a flawed comparison

1) it had a 1TB internal drive it does not compare to a 72TB Terra server (and with K you can have multiple servers working as one). with K I can recreate and work the same way I do now with the Sony player I won't be able to have a s big a selection as I do when I go away for a weekend.

2) if I remember correctly the Sony had a USB and you could add a small external drive (so not limited to 1TB), but if you can DL directly the external drive that would mean that you can't watch something on an other drive while DLing and if you DL to the internal drive and move off that is just an extra hassle.

3) wasn't the issue with the Sony the limits of the system/Sony? if someone was paying for an extremely fast connection could it take him just a few minutes?
