I think I like it even better than part 2, but not better than part 1.

For me it goes 3<2<1 or 2<3<1 depending on my mood. The first is good but I dont find it to be as rewatchable as the sequels. It's probably my favorite action franchise so theres no wrong answer.

Batman and Batman Returns
Superman (1978) and Superman II.

The John Wick movies seem to be defying the odds... so far.

Maybe Dark Fate will buck the trend, but after multiple attempts to resuscitate the Terminator franchise, I worry we're past CPR and now it's just necrophilia.
Bro...Die Hard 2 doesn’t suck.

None of the four Avengers movies suck. Star Wars certainly has more than two that don’t suck, as does Star Trek, & Lord of the Rings.

I don't know, avengers 2 was painful to get through for me. Star Trek, Star Wars and Lord of the rings aren't action franchises, fantasy and science fiction right?

I tend to mistake Civil War for an Avengers film when it's clearly the third Cap movie. The considerable variety of characters throws me for a moment.

They have as much action as the two Superman movies mentioned. Age of Ultron may not be as strong as the other three to some folk, that doesn’t mean it sucked though.

Civil War sometimes feels like Avengers 2.5, just without Thor and Hulk.

I think it's my favorite action franchise too, next to the Rambo franchise.

I agree, but Marvel appears to be a special case that defies the normal laws of nature, as do the Star Wars films, maybe because both franchises have a single creative force behind them (which may also explain why the new trilogy is so uneven, because there doesn't seem to be anyone in charge, creatively speaking. At least the prequels were consistently awful).

Star Trek also seems an exception to the rule, maybe because of the source material it had to draw upon. Like with Marvel and Star Wars, there was an established mythology to draw upon.

The Lord of the Rings is similar. It was based on solid source material and there was a single guiding hand at the helm. Also, because of the way it was produced, LOTR is really one nine to eleven hour movie.

The trend of "two are good, but the rest suck" applies mostly to the usual Hollywood method for creating franchise. A movie is successful, so the studio greenlights a sequel. If the sequel is successful, we get a third... and a fourth... and...

By the third or fourth film, the original creative team is long gone, and the studio is the main driving force behind a series of increasingly cynical cash-grabs.

DH2 isn't terrible. It's just feels like a by-the-numbers rehash of the first, with a bland villain.

The Deadpool movies don’t belong in the official X-Men franchise. Nor should they be included in any larger comic universe, unless all of that comic universe conforms to the same use of slapstick, meta, etc.
