Sophie Turner was fantastic in DP, and she delivered even more than I was expecting -- and I was expecting a lot.

Dark Phoenix > last stand, apocalypse, origins, xmen, x2, the wolverine

I've never seen the Deadpool films but they look like they don't belong.

I've haven't yet seen the second one, but the first Deadpool film is really its own thing, as so many have commented. All the fourth wall stuff, and all that. It's fairly enjoyable, though I didn't like it as much as a lot of other people. But I do like Reynolds a lot, and seriously, who doesn't love Morena Baccarin?

Yeah, but you could be the world's biggest Predator fan, in which case that statement would mean nothing.

J/K, I know how you felt about DP.

TBF i was already expecting The Predator to be a joke and it didnt look so bad after watching it. DP was mainly a boring movie for a X-Men movie. There was no adventure. No character development. Too many new characters. Only one interesting and 30 minutes showing a pretty face.

I've said pretty much a lot about this in the DP thread, so I won't bore people with the same stuff over and over again in this different thread. But I thought there was a lot of adventure, it just was psychological and emotional.

Anyways, like I said I won't just repeat what I've already said 100 times over in the other thread.

The X-Men movies are all just kinda...blah. I haven't seen the most recent one (and probably won't), but all of the other films in the series are very underwhelming.

Same here! I like First Class somewhat because it's set in the 60s and directed by Matthew Vaughn but the rest are very meh.

Oh, come on. Are you really going to let this destroy our friendship after all these years?

What it basically comes down to is, I want to like these movies more than I actually do. None of them are bad at all. They just don't do much for me.

Did you grow up liking the characters, comics and animated series? Usually has an impact for better or worse

I read a few X-Men comics back in the '80s, but it wasn't a title I followed. I knew the characters but not well. Never watched the animated series. I still have a mint copy of Wolverine #1 that an ex-boyfriend left at my house in the early '90s. Sucker...

(Side note: do you remember when Marvel Comics would award the coveted No-Prize? I won one for explaining an error in an issue of Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man.)

DP2 is as entertaining and "worthy" as any of the higher-end main X-Men films.

Do I wish Near Dark looked better? Yes, but that doesn't mean the existing Blu-ray is awful and should be avoided. Does Ready Player One look amazing? You bet, but it doesn't make it a better film. None of that seems to matter. Lots of people have the attitude of "that movie sucked, but I'll buy it because it's gonna look cool". I just don't get it.

Don't even get me started with the 4K enthusiasts...
As someone still rocking a 720p roku tv I feel you. Look I love watching movies in good quality. But I'm not about to break the bank trying to keep up with all the newest tech and rebuy my movies on every new format. I buy movies for the movies themselves. My BD's look just fine on my tv. I don't need to see every pimple on a actors face in super clear quality. Maybe in a few years I'll be in the market for a tv and will give 4k a shot. Until then I'm fine with my current setup .

I don’t think that take is as unpopular as you might think. X-men films rarely get discussed at the coffee machine at work or anywhere else. They always tend to just come and go quickly. They just don’t have "it". The timeline is sort of a mess, they’ve been directed and written by too many people and the films never can create that level of interest needed to sustain a franchise. The "best" X-men films are barely mediocre. Most are terrible.

They are barely better than the quote awful fantastic four movies.
