As I told you before, be patient. Don't get involved in a bidding war too early. Wait until five minutes left to the end of the auction and make your first offer. Make sure it is just the basic minimum and don't make a maximum offer. With less than a minute left, make your second offer and make sure that is significantly higher than the current price. This will not give others a chance to outbid you and time will run out.

A few months ago, my final offer with less than a minute to go on an HD-SUB 15 was $50 higher than the current bid at that time. I was willing to accept the risk of spending an additional $50, but I knew very well that there was practically no time left for anyone else to outbid me. I ended up buying the 15" subwoofer for $169.

Don't settle for a 10". Go for a 12" or 15". Maple color subs are the least popular, but they look really nice. Black and cherry subs are more popular.

I don’t ever bid on anything until the very end…..i’ve learned that long ago……lst way to many auctions b/c of my bid going in too early.

But thanks for the tip on the colors….i’ll look into those and see what I can get.

I totally forgot about that auction last night and when I looked this morning @ what it ended at….i was to say the least.

I'm really anxious to hear what my PSW15 sounds like, along with the rest of my HT. I'm trying to wait until we move into our house before hooking anything up. I know the RW is the HT series and the PSW is the Audiophile series but I hope my PSW will still be good for HT, which will be it's main purpose. I figured for $109 it was worth the gamble.

And btw BD, my info for the list is as follows:

A/V Receiver: Pioneer VSX-820
Speakers: Fluance AVBHT+ 5.0 channel system
Subwoofer: Acoustic Audio PSW15

As long as all the components are functioning normally and you connect and calibrate the system properly, you should get good sound. It may be helpful to read A Guide to Bass Management (Part I).

Everything is brand new, so it should all function properly. The Pioneer receiver has MCACC (multi channel acoustic calibration) built in and I've read extensively on how to calibrate it all. I know the Fluance set sounds great, especially for the money and the PSW15 should be just the extra kick I need to get my house rockin!

On a side note, I've began reading your informative guides...lol

The sub I have bought seems to have no real kick. During a test the sub seems put out quite good enough. But during regular sessions it just doesn't do what it does during db tests. I Have the crossover on the receiver at the right setting 80.I have the sub woofer set to on on the receiver. Anyone want to help me out.!

You can do several things to enhance the performance of the subwoofer:
  1. Place it in a corner about a foot or more away from the side walls. A subwoofer in a corner will energize all room modes and will be the loudest.
  2. Buy a Y adapter (two male, one female), attach the female side to the sub cable coming from the receiver, and connect the sub cable to both the left and the right inputs on the back of the subwoofer. On some subwoofer, this will increase the output by 3 to 6dBs.
  3. Add some polyfill to the subwoofer. Polyfill will deepen the output of a subwoofer.
  4. Put the subwoofer on a riser. A riser enhances the performance of a subwoofer.
  5. Calibrate the subwoofer properly:
    1. Set the level on the back to 60%.
    2. Set the phase to zero.
    3. Run the receiver's auto calibration program.
    4. Optionally, check the level of the speakers and the subwoofer manually with an SPL meter. Adjust the level of the subwoofer according to your taste.
  6. Buy a second subwoofer. Two subwoofers can increase the level of output and more importantly, even out the bass across the room for all listening positions.
For additional guidance, read https://forum.blu-ray.com/subwoofers...nt-part-i.html.

Question Help....please

I bought a acoustic audio powered sub woofer 15. I got it about a week ago, just before I hooked it up the lamp in my DLP tv burned out. I set it up, JUST got my lamp today. You can turn the sub woofer on, and you can hear how powerful it is. The bass is constant tho, not appropriately for the song or movie or anything. Its just constant until I turn it down/off. I know thats not how its supposed to be, but I cant figure it out. PLEASE HELP

EDITED

The hook up is different than my old sub. My old Infinity sub had just one cord to plug in the back. This one has one cord but its a y cable?? I have to be doing SOMETHING wrong...

Are you connecting the sub to a receiver or to a sub output on the dlp? If you are connecting it to the dlp and assuming the dlp does not have anyway of adjusting the crossover for the sub out jack.. adjust the crossover on the subwoofer to about 100hz or so (that's turning the crossover knob a little past half way so 12 o clock possition) and see how it sounds. If it's still constant then turn it down lower and see how it sounds.

Hmm.. Put the crossover all the way up to 130hz? on the sub and volume halfway and try running the audyssey calibration on the onkyo. Or try adjusting the crossover on the amp to 80hz or 100hz and go from there. Check the LFE setting on the amp. Also experiment with sub woofer placement. Let us know how it goes.

Online I would recommend Monoprice. Locally, any place like Radio Shack, Best Buy, etc.

I ordered a AA PSW-8 sub for my friend's condo, and it sounds great for home theater use. One hell of a tiny sub for $75 shipped! It's going to sound much better once I give it a little polyfill & DIY riser love. Plus my living room is almost twice the size of his, so I can't wait to hear how it sounds with his set up.
