I will buy physical media for as long as I am able to enjoy this hobby; that will not change, but that does not mean that I am going to pretend that things are other than they really are.

More than a decade of plummeting disc sales along with hardware manufacturers ceasing production of disc players says nothing promising about the state of physical media or of its future as anything other than a specialty market catering to a small bunch of die hard devotees and the occasional bargain bin diver.

I turn 60 next month and I have long known that I am way past my prime. The heyday of physical media is hell and far gone, too, and it will not return. Yes, I would absolutely love to be wrong about all of this. Predict the imminent and triumphant resurgence of physical media. I prefer happy fantasies, remember?
Everyone knows what you posted but you are just playing into the hands of the likes of Fly, Zoetmb and the afore mentioned Mr Stewart with stuff like that. Disc will be fine for many years yet, heck boutique labels offerings are flying off the proverbial shelves.
Or is this to do more with your ever rising digital collection?

I have not seen Lamb, but I do like a dark bleak slow burn from time to time. I will probably wait for a price drop and grab it, or sooner if a review pops up with great audio.

I am not playing into anyone's "hands." My recent posts have nothing to do with any of the people that you are trying to drag into this conversation. You are attempting to bait them and you should be ashamed of yourself for doing so. If they want to participate in this thread that should be their choice and not in response to your provocation. Stop the name dropping!

Your reading comprehension is severely lacking. I never once said that discs were in danger of disappearing. To put it another way, they are experiencing a market correction as disc sales continue their steep dive.

I quoted the sales data as I have done numerous times before. In 2011, disc sales were $8.952 billion. After three quarters of 2021, they were $1.378 billion. Blame the pandemic you say? Well, in 2019, they were only $3.293 billion. If that's your definition of a market doing "fine" then all I can say is that I'm glad that your optimistic about something...unlike the long list of imaginary threats to our home theaters that you wax paranoid about routinely.

If you are trying to imply that I am no longer an avid supporter of physical media, then you are completely daft.

How does that compare with your support for physical media last year?

I also explained why I bought 60 digital titles last year because I knew you would see it as some weird kind of betrayal.

I share my digital collection with my friends; they use it probably 50 times to my one. I started redeeming the codes that came with my discs and buying a few titles after the pandemic began as a way to combat the cabin fever brought on by social distancing and self-quarantines. Digital copies also work as back-ups and they make access to movies possible when one is away from home. You know, like when you find yourself in the hospital for a 10 day stretch.

The TV that I ordered for my neighbor arrives today! Giving it to him and setting it up will be great fun, but it will also exhaust me. A friend will be helping me as the thing weighs 75 pounds. I can barely carry a 25 pound bag of kitty litter for 10 yards. Unlike a new TV, you can't break kitty litter should you drop it.

It's a market that is profitable enough to continue for a very long time and isn't in danger of disappearing. That sounds like it is doing fine to me. It isn't doing great or even good; it's doing fine.

What is your definition of "fine"?

"Fine", to me, means that something is doing well, even good. What's happening with discs, and their players, seems more like survival and just surviving is hardly what I would call doing fine.

I consider myself cautiously optimistic about the market for both discs and their players; cautious because there is plenty of reason for concern.

You seem to have the blinkers on when it comes to Lee. He has been baiting people since he joined the forum in my opinion.

As to my comment about your collection, I was pulling your plonker. Something you do/did to me on a weekly basis.

My total? Things got out of hand last year. I bought around 150 titles but some of them were collections such as ANOES and Blade Trilogy so around 160 titles.

For the third time in a day's span: my recent comments have ZERO to do with Lee or with anyone else that you persist in baiting. If you have a bone to pick with someone, speak to them directly. My opinions of other forum members are my own, they are none of your business, and they are irrelevant.

I am unfamiliar with the word "plonker", but I will look it up. I no longer have the energy to do anything to anyone on a weekly basis. You will have to ration my affections henceforth.

It won’t make sense unless you type, ‘pulling my plonker’.

Spiderman may save cinema.

https://www.theatlantic.com/culture/...s-2022/621157/

But the December 17 release of Spider-Man: No Way Home—exclusively in cinemas—defied every anxiety about the death of the multiplex. The movie arrived alongside news of Omicron’s spread, but that didn’t blunt enthusiasm

One of my resolutions for the year is to limit my day 1 purchasing habit of mainstream titles. For example, Dune 4K disc is released next week and it's still priced at $29.99, so with sales tax, it's like $33 - $34. It's a WB release, so I will wait until it's $9.99 on sale.

This rule will not necessarily apply to boutique label or catalog releases, because those tend to sell out faster than new release mainstream titles.
