The movie is great and on Criterion BD. I've never seen the series, though.

I use both discs and high quality 4K streaming a lot and most of them look fantastic on both my TVs 77A80J and 65ZD9 from a viewing distance of 7-9 ft. Of course, the 4K streams will occasionally show some compression artifacts but thankfully the gap isn't big. Audio wise, it's a mixed bag.

Most 4K streams from Disney, Warner and Sony have Dolby Vision whilst the disc counterpart is just HDR10. I am seeing noticeable differences to the point I prefer DV over HDR10 on both my displays due to better rendition of colours, highlights and blacks. YMMV.

I think that’s part of the issue for some HT enthusiasts in the U.K. I have a projector but also a OLED in the living room. My HT is bigger than my living room and I’m only able to sit 7 feet from the tv. I’m able to see artefacts on 4K and 1080p streams quite easily from that distance where as 9 feet away, more would be hidden.

Needless to say, I wouldn’t use Netflix, Apple, Disney+ on my projector just 4K and Blu-ray Discs.

I have to admit, Disney+ is very good for a streaming service with the least artefacts. I just tend to notice even minor flaws.

I love 4K Blu-ray discs. It seems like most are taking the time to go back to good sources and do a quality transfer and not DNR it to death. I'm even fine with just a regular Blu-ray disc, just that I want the disc to be done properly (no excessive DNR, AVC-encoded at a decent bitrate, lossless audio, and not drastically altered color timing that looks weird).

My wife and I like it very cold in our house. We keep our heat set to 68 during the day and 63 at night. We've done that for years in 2 different houses and never had an issue.

Maybe the guy who said that was referring to the U.K. with the colder weather.

After months of not using projector in my home theatre and only watching everything on a 65” Panasonic GZ2000 OLED, going back to projector (now JVC RS3100) is such a revelation. Of course all the compression artefacts from streaming are so ugh too.

Yeah, don't rub it in. We want to move to a colder climate. Just have to wait for my son to graduate and get out on his own.

Watched S1, E1 of Boba Fett last night and there was obnoxious banding in the background sky of some scenes. An earlier check of Fett via ATV4K HUD showed the video data average at ≈ 5.5 Mbps while the network speed was 130 Mbps. Others have showed better video speeds than mine even tho their network speed was much less. After Fett ran a Netflix server test on the Nvidia Shield Pro and it reported 233 Mbps.

Yeah, par for the course with streaming. Inconsistency across the board with whichever devices imo.

It’s nice to be chatting with someone who likes cold weather. Almost everyone I know is always moaning about the cold. June, July and August are utterly miserable for me, I hate being too warm. I’m not overweight or anything, hated heat since I was young.

I live in the North East coast and it gets biting cold in Winter. Sadly, the cold weeks have de erased over the last couple of years. December, Jan and Feb used to be guaranteed winter weather for the most part, now we have more milder days in January. It’s depressing.

The annoying thing is, even at 5-7 degrees, People are still moaning how cold it is.

June, July and August in the Southeast U.S. is beyond miserable. Temperatures rarely go below 90F (33C) during those months and we can stay in that temperature range from May to October, especially recently. I've always loved the cold and hope to move to the Northeast U.S. or out in the Midwest where they actually get 4 seasons, not 9 months of summer and then 3 months of cooler weather.

Couldn't help sticking my oar in here as I have rarely been reading this thread lately, but you shouldn't have any problems leaving your heating on low settings. I've had a combi-boiler system for many years and rarely ever have it on higher than 20 degrees (about 68 degrees in Fahrenheit) in the winter months. During the night I drop it down to about 18 (about 64 degrees Fah). In the spring/summer, I drop the thermostat down further which stops the radiators from heating up but the boiler will still produce hot water when you switch your taps on.

I never liked excessive heat either. I don't mind warm weather, but I hate the hot humid heat we seem to get from time to time during the summer months. I'm in the North West, which is perhaps a little warmer than where you are.

The guy who I was speaking to must have been talking bollocks.
He has a friend who installs boilers but I thought at the time it sounded odd.

Yeah, the heat is not good.

I hate the heat as well. Out here in L.A. it's generally
"great" weather all year, because we don't have traditional seasons anymore. At least within the last month it's been nice and cold for the first time in I don't even remember how long. Our summers (usually start after memorial day and stays hot well into the fall season) are hot as hell and we were humid this last time out.

I also hate the beach, so I never go out there to "cool off." I could never live in the south, let alone Florida, because it's swamp ass weather out there.

We used to have 6-7 inches of snow in January. It’s 6% today. Nice Walking weather but a little too high for this time of year.

A little off topic, but is California really as bad as you hear about? I know a few people who left the state because of high taxes and laws they disagreed with. I also hear about a lot of businesses that leave the state for the same reasons (high taxes, high cost of living). I suppose that's par-for-the-course anywhere. But I agree, I have family that lives in Florida and it's too humid for me. Wisconsin, the only thing I really hate about it here is end of January, early February when we have -20 temperatures for a few weeks. Summer is much more tolerable and thankfully taxes are not out of control yet. Somewhere like Calabasas or Santa Monica sounds really nice, but I think an 1800 sq ft house like mine would probably go for a couple million out there.

I don't think it's as bad. Yes, you do have your pockets of trouble here and there (like most places), but the state is not in despair or anything like that. The cost of living is high and taxes can also be high in some cases. You do get a ton of value, though, since everything is here. First rate services, cultural, entertainment, food, etc., it's the epicenter for fun. It is a blue state, so firearms are highly regulated, there is no open carry here, so folks that love their guns have to have them properly registered and stored.

Calabasas and Santa Monica are further west from me but SM is basically a beach city and very expensive to live. Calabasas is also a rich city, but it's more suburban and you have a lot of folks from the entertainment industry that live there. Calabasas is basically on the other side of the Santa Monica mountains.

The weather in California is pretty much nice all year round. Housing prices are a bit weird we have a proposition that limits the amount property tax increases so if your family bought a house 50 years ago then you pay basically the lowest property tax in the USA on a multi million dollar house. Your Wisconsin house assuming it’s worth like 200k would pay more tax then a 2 million dollar house in california people have owned for a long time generally. Taxes are also generally pretty high. Basically it’s great for old people they can sell a house they payed 20 grand for 50 years ago and retire with a couple of million in some other state paying practically no property tax for most of it. It sucks for the young looking to buy a house at a huge price and a huge property tax bill unless they inherited.
