Thanks for the information. Guess I'll be looking to upgrade my receiver one day. Just don't want to end up getting a $500+ receiver. Already my speaker system is going to be $2132 after everything (if I buy those CF-70's for $440), of course $400 of that calculation (counting them as $400 after taxes) is the RC-Minis which won't be a part of the setup. With a new receiver I'm guessing I'd be treading close to 3 grand which is wayyyy more than I ever thought I'd be putting into speakers. In fact I didn't intend to even reach 1 grand. Heh. Good sound is good sound though I guess.
Paul as I said you should notice a difference, the point we are trying to make you realize is simply that your receiver does not have enough power to bring those CF-70 to their true potential.

As Callas said this is just to inform you. So in the Eventuality you plan to upgrade your system down the road you will know what to look for.

It wont have HDMI 1.4, but if you do get into 3D, just get a BDP with dual HDMI outputs and run one to the TV and the other to the receiver....

Trust me, I never thought I would spend $3k on 3 speakers and a receiver.... neither did the wife. However by the time I am done, I think I will be about $5500 on just the audio side of my upgrades. Then what to do about the TV! My wife is gonna kill me when I bring that up to her.
Hahaha wow that is a lot.

Well the deal fell through anyway. The guy was going to come by tomorrow at 11 and the deal was set in stone, but then he sent me an email 5 minutes later telling me a local person gave him a better offer. So I told him that's too bad and my offer stands if his current deal falls through.

I was all hyped up too. Had a time, a price, and everything.

Congrats on the Excites Steve, they look real nice. I kept waiting to see some Totems in there but I guess you changed your mind eh?

Never mind, I remember you telling me you were looking at the Excites. You even gave a link to it in one of your posts. It was Oliver that was getting the Totems...

Thanks Miker.

The speakers are unbelievable. They play better then they look. I am really happy, now I am in the same position you are in that I need to get the center channel. I am also updating my receiver. I want to get the receiver first.

I'm going to wait until I can find a deal on CF-70's before I upgrade my receiver. It might be a year from now, or it might be a day from now, who knows (I'm going to wait until I can get them for $250 a piece or better).

I'm still a student and currently I'm not maintaining a job (on purpose) so that I can focus on my studies, and have a bit of free time. While I get a lot paid for me (my tuition), I have to pay for books, gas, insurance, and whatnot. Sooooo I'm very wary of getting the best possible deals.

Mike we both looked at both options , Totems came trough on my side and Dynaudio for Steve's part, I mean I could not even listen to the X12 nor the X16 before I buy and Steve got a great deal on a demo pair of X16. On my part I had a good deal on a brand new pair of Totem Rainmakers which I'm really proud of I did listeen to the Tower X32 tho.

I just loved both.

Either way we just could not go wrong.

Hey Oliver

The pair I got, were not demos, they simply had to open the box and inspect the speakers because they came from a dealer that went out of business. So I got $300 off a brand new pair. They just couldn't sell them as new becuase they had to open the box.

What it is it that I see on your woofer cone then? is that dust? On top of your cabinet looks like little scratches, what is this that I see in the picture, I swore you told me they were demos but my memory plays tricks on me sometimes as we read so many posts.

that is lint from when I dusted.... I can assure you there are no scratches... i checked them out at the dealers place before bringing them home, I broke the original plastic seal/tape that they were in. I was told they were Demos originally, but the dealer said he only opened the box and looked at them. Dyn doesn't like dealers to discount their gear unless its a Demo item, I recall that when I was at the open house, and I asked him how much, he actually asked permission from Emilios to discount, as Sunny felt they were Demos and Emilios did not. Every box of speakers that came from the dealer that closed was opened and inspected. So I opened the box to inspect that I wasn't getting damaged speakers, and the bag that was covering them that hadn't been opened. On the dust cap/woofer is my dirty finger prints when I was trying to mount them on the stands, I accidently touched it, they are heavy little buggers at 20 lbs each. I didn't clean the finger prints as I was affraid of what I could clean them with, so I left them alone. Trust me, I see it and hate it. I wish everyday that it didn't happen.

Default Energy CF50

Hi, I just purchased a pair of Energy CF50's and a CC10. I am trying to decide between a Denon avr791 (90 watts x 7) and a Pioneer vsx 1120-k (110 watts x 7). The Pioneer has preamp outputs the Denon does not. Do you think the Denon avr791 can make them perform well or do I need an amp to get optimum performance out of them? If you think I should get the Pioneer, what amps would you suggest to power these speakers? Please help me before the current sale ends! Thank You.

The CF-50s should work well with either of the receivers you are looking at. Personally, I would never buy a receiver w/o pre-outs and multi-channel analog inputs ever again... so make sure you do yourself a favor and get those options on the receiver you buy.

In this case get the Pioneer.

Oh yeah, and CONGRATS

Yea, I noticed those things also Oliver, but didn't want to mention it. LOL. I have to watch my grandkids close; especially the 2 year old boy, as he likes to throw and punch stuff, and I've had to jump up and catch his arm a couple of times as he's moving to take a swing at the woofer on my RC-10..

HEHE Mike, I had so many discussion with Steve about his speakers, I could not remember if they were demos or not, I knew he talked about the fact they were but turned out they were still in their plastic wraping but the bos was open, turns out this is dust from the cleaning he did.

I'm happy for Steve cause he worked his butt off to get those superb speakers.

Thanks Oliver.... I am still working hard to finish paying them off... but I love them.. watched Inception last night, and it was sweet. That signature sound of the movie, that horn sound, was so eerie sounding and may it was awesome.

You know what I watch nowadays, I watch the LOTR trilogy I just watched Fellowship of the Ring and I am astound by the sound, Already this movie had tremendous motion picture and sound on DVD and already had 6 discrete channels of lossy audio but on bluray with the Totems now is absolutely insane picture of course with the DTS-HD lossless OMG.

You have to try that on the X16.

So I've got a bit of a question: How do the Klipsch RF62 and RF82 speakers fair against the Energy CF-50 and CF-30 speakers?

There's a 2-for-1 deal at Futureshop going on right now (for Klipsch speakers), and I've helped my dad out with a setup. He currently has 3 Energy RC-Mini speakers, an Energy RC-Mini Center speaker, and two Energy RF-50 speakers in a 6.1 setup. What I suggested to him is that he takes my two RC-Mini speakers, and his three RC-Mini speakers, and the RC-Mini center speaker and turn that into a 6.1 setup for his bedroom. I told him to then sell me his CF-50's so he has a clean slate to work with (no speakers to have to get rid of). The main reason is because his center channel and surround channels are from the RC-Mini line, and then he has non-matching CF towers.

Now what I suggested he does is get two Klipsch RF82's, two Klipsch RF-62's, the appropriate center speaker, and one or two Klipsch rear surround speakers. Since Futureshop has a two-for-one deal on the towers, it's huge savings ($900 for two RF82's, and $600 for two RF-62's). This is for the downstairs theater room.

What I'm wondering is if the RF82 and RF62 setup will sound a lot better than a Connoisseur Energy setup (obviously much cheaper, but still wondering in comparison).

He'll be getting a new receiver for this setup most likely as well (since his current receiver is going to go along with his RC-Minis to his bedroom).

[edit]: The main reason I'm asking this is because I am directly contrasting this purchase to an alternative Energy setup (where he would buy fully Connoisseur line speakers).

does he like the sound of Klipsch speakers? Most people either love or hate them. To me they are way to bright.

The other thing he could do is just get a CC-10 center and some CR-10s for the rears and the have an all Connoisuer series downstairs and then get another pair of RC-minis for the bedroom to use as fronts.
