I get what you are saying it is a lot of money and a 50% loss would hurt like hell. For me I went with a local firm that had an extremely good reputation and good research department. I can check on a daily basis and once a month they make a package with holdings, trades and performance compared to indexes.

Watched Sing 2 at the Cinemas with my son. Really enjoyed it. The first 10 minutes is so so but after that it really picks up the pace and I would say it was entertaining than Sing 1.

Would make a good companion to MidSommer.

I also watched Heart of a Dog recommended (or at least brought to my attention) by Vilya.

It was great if you like Laurie Anderson, but if you never heard of her I don't know how you would think about it.
Glad you enjoyed it. 👍

Box Office: ‘Jackass Forever’ Gets Last Laugh With $23.5M Opening - Hollywood Reporter 2/6

The R-rated slapstick comedy easily out-grossed Roland Emmerich's big-budget 'Moonfall,' which crashed to earth in its box office launch.

Quote:
There was nothing gross about the opening of Jackass Forever at the box office.

The R-rated movie took in a better-than-expected $23.5 million from 3,604 theaters to mark a triumphant return to the big screen for prankster king Johnny Knoxville and his crew.

Jackass Forever, costing a mere $10 million to make, is the second box office win — and profit generator — for Paramount following January’s Scream.

Paramount Pictures, MTV Entertainment and Dick Productions decided to revive Knoxville’s slapstick, gross-out comedy franchise after a 12-year hiatus from the big screen. Jackass Forever is purportedly the last film in the franchise.

Critics loved Jackass Forever, as did younger moviegoers and especially younger males. Three-quarters of all ticket buyers were under the age of 35, including 67 percent between ages 18 and 34, while 68 percent of the audience were males. The movie currently sports an 85 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes (a few days ago, it was 90 percent).

Top markets that over-indexed included Los Angeles — where nine of the top 10 theaters were — Phoenix, Sacramento, Denver, San Diego, Las Vegas, Portland OR, Fresno, Albuquerque, El Paso, Pittsburgh, and Milwaukee. Top markets that under-indexed included New York and Dallas (both were storm related), Washington D.C., Atlanta, Orlando and Miami.

Heading into the weekend, the film had been tracking to open in the mid-teens.

Like many other franchise installments, Jackass Forever still couldn’t match the opening of the last film in the franchise, Jackass 3D, due to the ongoing pandemic. Jackass 3D debuted to $50 million.

Jackass Forever, which reunites many original crew members, stars Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, Chris Pontius, Dave England, Wee Man, Danger Ehren, Preston Lacy, Sean “Poopies” McInerney, Zach Holmes, Eric Manaka and Rachel Wolfson. (There are also numerous cameos.)

The Motion Picture Association’s rating board slapped Jackass Forever with an R for “strong crude material and dangerous stunts, graphic nudity and language throughout.”

Overseas, the pic opened to $5.2 million from its first nine markets for an early global start of $28.7 million. The U.K. led with a strong $2.8 million.

The big news internationally was China, where the Lunar New Year holiday saw box office revenue soar to record levels, with The Battle at Lake Changjin II grossing $153.5 million alone, according to Comscore. Too Cool to Kill followed with $111.5 million.

In North America, Jackass Forever easily beat Roland Emmerich’s sci-fi disaster pic Moonfall, which crashed to earth in its opening.

Backed by Centropolis, the movie opened to an estimated $10 million in North America from 3,446 theaters after costing at least $138 million to make (that’s according to Emmerich). It also bombed overseas with $9.4 million from 45 markets for a global total of $10.4 million.

Lionsgate is distributing Moonfall domestically and insists it will make a profit off its fees even if the movie loses money overall, according to company insiders.

Moonfall stars Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson, John Bradley, Michael Peña, Charlie Plummer, Kelly Yu and Donald Sutherland.

The film played notably older, with more than 50 percent of ticket buyers 35 and up. It also skewed male (60 percent). Moviegoers sent Moonfall to the back of the class with a C+ CinemaScore.

Spider-Man: No Way Home continued is remarkable run, coming in third with $9.6 million to finish Sunday with a domestic total of $748.9 million, which is just shy of the $749.8 million grossed by Avatar in its original run. No Way Home now has a real shot at passing up the $760 million ultimately grossed by Avatar domestically to become the No. 3 top-grossing movie of all time, not adjusted for inflation.

Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s global haul is $1.77 billion.

Scream placed No. 4 with $4.7 million domestically for a total of $68.9 million, while Sing 2 rounded out the top five with $4.2 million. Sing 2 finished Sunday with a domestic haul of $139.6 million and $291.5 million globally.

New nationwide offering The Wolf and The Lion faltered in its opening with less than $700,000 from an estimated 1,000 theaters.

At the specialty box office, acclaimed Norwegian film The Worst Person in the World impressed with an opening location average of $33,760 from four theaters in New York and Los Angeles for distributor Neon. That’s the best showing for a foreign language film since 2019, and among the top 20 opening location averages ever for a foreign language film.

Among holdovers, Paul Thomas Anderson’s Licorice Pizza grew its domestic tally to $12.7 million on the eve of Oscar nominations, which will be announced Feb. 8.

Belfast, another possible Oscar nominee, finished Sunday with $7.5 million domestically

‘The Power of the Dog’ Named Best Film of 2021 By London Critics’ Circle - Hollywood Reporter 2/6

The film landed four awards — including best director, best actor and best supporting actor — while Andrew Garfield was named British/Irish actor of the year.

Quote:
The Power of the Dog has been named film of the year at the London Critics’ Circle Film Awards.

The awards — as voted on by the 180-member film section of the Critics’ Circle, the U.K.’s longest-standing critics’ organization — gave Jane Campion’s Venice-bowing drama four honors, including director of the year, actor of the year (for Benedict Cumberbatch) and supporting actor of the year (for Kodi Smit-McPhee).

Meanwhile, Drive My Car nabbed two awards, and Andrew Garfield, perhaps making up for his BAFTA snub last week, was named British/Irish actor of the year.
This western is sure to grab a few academy awards.

Yes. It does start off a bit weird but then settles in.
Song selection is excellent just like Soho.

Definitely buying it. I am expecting some good things from the Atmos mix based on my theatrical viewing today.

Quick question for the experts here. Is the Nvidia Shield Pro the best streaming device that's not made by Apple? I'm currently using a 4K Fire Stick but plan on moving it to my other 4K TV and want the best streaming box I can get for my main TV. I'm looking at the Pro version because my goal is to have my own Plex server in the next year or so.

If there is something better than the Shield any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

The ATV4K is very popular but it can't bit stream audio which bothers a lot of folks.

I don't know much about the Shield. It CAN bit stream audio and it can act as a plex server and I think it can play games.

I've read people have problems with it detecting or switching HDR formats or something like that... I don't have experience with one. Also, I don't think it's been updated in a long time.

As far as other options like fire stuff... again I have no idea. I think a lot of people like that stuff esp if they have Alexa stuff.

EDIT - do read up on the "pro" and other shield versions because there are some gotchas choosing the right one. I personally would not use one as a plex server because old and very capable PCs are most likely beefier and easier to setup for that purpose. Some i5 or i7 or maybe even something newer. When I had a plex server it was near my NAS units and all that stuff was far from anything else in a corner of the basement. My NAS servers are still there but I have infuse on ATV4K access them via FTP and I don't use Plex anymore.

ATV box is better used for streaming apps which requires frame rate matching and of course iTunes movies due to the higher bit rates.

I would recommend something like this https://www.futeko.com/products/MP107.php for streaming movies from your NAS drive.

This is a cracking little machine. Does Dolby Vision and HDR10+. It won't do 4K HDR on the usual streaming apps due to licensing agreements.

I've used the Nvidia Shield Pro for a couple of years now, and in my opinion it's the best streaming device, period, Apple notwithstanding. (Though to be fair I've never actually used an ATV). Last I knew, it was the only streaming box that passes Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos from every streaming service (it's been a while since I checked, that may have changed). I also use Plex extensively, running the server on the Shield, with the media on an external drive connected to the Shield, and it has always worked well.

1) Does Shield do frame rate matching on all apps?
2) Does the YouTube app do HDR?
3) Is there any way to turn on Developer HUD to check playback stats?

If you watch Apple TV movies then ATV 4K box is the way to go. Apple ecosystem have always been closed and will remain closed.

For me, 1 and 3 are very important. Any external streamer that doesn't do this is a strict no-go.

You can access the Plex Server with different Devises even Smart TV's, to me the most important things are the Network and Server. Even though the Network will have WiFi capabilities it should be Hard Wired Ethernet, and the Server should be Core i7 for 4K with easy internal Storage expandability. Check this Link:

Yeah, I've looked at the specs for the plex server. I currently have a i7-9700K with 32GB of RAM so will probably use that and just build myself a new gaming/work PC.

I have both (Shield and ATV) and each has their ±'s. For the Shield, match frame rate requires a app (Refresh Rate). If using a good programmable remote you can do a lot more customization for the Shield.

IMO, a NAS is the way to go for media server. Synology (here) has NAS that will do 1 to many drives. You can use Plex, SMB, NFS, DLNA (UPnP) on them.

Assuming anything will change regarding the future of home video, ...

Considering Discs, Digital Copies, Subscription services... What do you think will stop being an option first?

I believe all 3 will still be popular in 10 years.

Define popular? Disc is barely relevant now and it's share will continue to decrease yearly, so I don't think I would say it will be popular in 10 years time.

The best bet for digital copies would be some type of merger or hybrid with subscription.
