Again, streaming can mean Netflix which is basically a tv channel for the modern age. The discussion is mostly Digital HD versus Bluray. How many of your family/friends collect Digital,HD in any numbers?

Everyone? More sweeping statements that are simply not true. Millions still buy DVD. Millions still get by on broadcast. Millions still collect Bluray. Millions still watch cable/Sat.

Streaming is just replacing broadcast and cable TV as the primary way to view entertainment. People who care about buying and keeping movies will continue to do so primarily with physical media. Age isn't the main factor in either case.

Would agree with that last part if I was able to get any film on disk easily.

The only reason you can't is because of all the people supporting digital instead.

No, it is because some studios don't license films to others or buys up films to release them here.

I don't know what you mean by that, please explain and give examples.

Any movie or TV show that makes way more money on physical media than digital is guaranteed to get a physical release regardless of who owns the rights. No studio is going to ignore that big of income source. Therefore the only titles that don't get physical releases are the types of movies and TV shows that sell poorly on physical media because people are streaming instead.

Here are digital films I own because either they are not available here on physical formats, they are only available on DVD while the digital is in HD, or on BD-R format (usually just DVD quality and usually expensive).

A lot of foreign films and LGBT focused films are not available or easily available on physical media in the states, usually LGBT are only on DVD. I have tons more in my VUDU wishlist waiting to be purchased too.

Many titles don't get Blu-ray releases because there isn't enough support for Blu-ray. If all the people who were buying digital were buying Blu-ray instead than everything would get a Blu-ray release. The customers supporting digital releases are just as much to blame as the studios putting out digital releases.

If you buy something digital because it's not on Blu-ray then you're just adding to the problem and ensuring more titles will be digital-only.

My sister/ brother in law blind buy multiple flicks every Tuesday on Vudu. My mother does too on Amazon. Even though they would save money by waiting a few weeks because they are on Ultraviolet and would see them anyway when I redeem the code that comes with my pre-orders.

That isn't true at all, that is all just speculation.

On Kickstarter, a lot of those fan funded films only offer DVD as a physical format or sometimes Blu-Ray just for the people who funded it... and usually for around $35 or even higher.

Also just in case you think I'm a supporter of digital:

If a physical copy comes with a digital copy, I'll definitely buy the physical copy. Main reason why my VUDU has 100+ movies in it.

That's because of Blu-ray's overall lack of popularity, especially for certain types of movies and TV shows. If they don't think that Blu-ray is going to sell then they won't offer it.

That makes you a digital supporter for everything that's easier to watch on digital.

Even I didn't think that Streaming Video was so readily available, until I got my new UHD TV and started going through some of the Apps. Now I realize why a Company like AT&T wants TWC, for the Content. We have been telling you guys this is a Connected World through the Internet, and Video Streaming will be at the Forefront.

Progress yo me means better quality. VHS-Laserdisc-DVD-Bluray-UHD Bluray.

Digital HD is a step backwards.
There's where you are wrong, you love to put down Digital HD when you don't even have the best set up. Now I have a Sony UHD TV with plenty of Bandwidth to get Beautiful 1080P and 4k Streaming, and it matches Blu-ray Disc with no problem. As for Sound, I usually use my Optical Sony Headset and the Sound is Outstanding. So put that Digital HD argument to rest, because the Quality is there if you have the right set up. Maybe you can jump on with Penguin and his Control Issues, or go back to your Little Kid Stuff!

It's not an impressive feat for digital to match an 11 year old physical format. Does it match Ultra HD Blu-ray?

yeah, no. Audio is not a match either. Sorry.

Right, I get dragged back in. I'm done for now.

No but it will in a few years time when 8K disc is around. Give it 20 years and it may match 8K disc. Always playing catch up, trailing behind.

If you see it that way. Doesn't mean I don't put physical releases ahead of digital when I'm presented the two as a choice.

I'm a fan of film, the film is more important to me then the format I can get them on except DVD since DVD isn't HD.

I appreciate that but it doesn't excuse your support for digital.

Buying films digitally just means many of those films won't be available at all in the future. It's far more likely to happen with indie films. Many of the small film companies will fail and no one will be able to offer any of their movies digitally.

Discs can still be watched and resold even if the company who owns the rights doesn't exist anymore.
