If a movie doesn't come with a digital copy I would like to at least receive a DVD. The dvd has value when I'm traveling as computers cant always play blu rays and they burn more power.

I pre-ordered Shortbus from Oscilloscope Laboraties:

*Release date - June 2022*

John Cameron Mitchell’s SHORTBUS explores the lives of several emotionally challenged characters as they navigate the comic and tragic intersections between love and sex in and around a modern-day underground salon. A sex therapist who has never had an orgasm, a dominatrix who is unable to connect, a gay couple who are deciding whether to open up their relationship, and the people who weave in and out of their lives, all converge on a weekly gathering called Shortbus: a mad nexus of art, music, politics, and polysexual carnality.

Set in a post-9/11, Bush-exhausted New York City, SHORTBUS tells its story with sexual frankness, suggesting new ways to reconcile questions of the mind, pleasures of the flesh, and imperatives of the heart.

Special Features:

Deleted Scenes
Audio Commentaries
Commentary with filmmakers and cast, recorded in 2006
Commentary with John Cameron Mitchell and producer Howard Gertler, recorded in 2022
Making-Of Featurette
Conversation between John Cameron Mitchell and John Waters, recorded at the Toronto International Film Festival
Theatrical Trailers

I stopped buying DVDs a bit before BD launched ( had to catch up on all the ones that I had bought but had not seen yet) and stopped watching them at home around 15 years ago. What others do is up to them.

I very much enjoy my DVDs; it's why I still keep 'em around. Our upscaling TVs and disc players can work wonders with how well they look.

I still buy the occasional DVD, too, if that is the only to way to really own a title. There's a lot that I like about my digital collection, but I just don't trust it.

MOD DVDs:

I bought my 1st MOD DVD in 2016, recently, several more movie/TV movie purchases (WB, MGM, Universal) have been MOD DVDs.

They all play on my (UHD)Blu-ray and DVD players (inc. my PC).

My Magnavox UHD Blu-ray player does play them but won't play my home made DVDs made with my DVD recorders, I haven't tried my PC to record a DVD.

Anyone else have any MOD DVDs - if so - are they "durable" (some of my CDs I copied to CD-Rs and keep in my car won't play now)?

I have MOD DVDs that are 17 years-old that play just fine. I had a handful that I burned myself on ancient Phillips media that failed, but that's all.

Some of my MOD CDs are even older and they're still okay the last time that I checked. MOD discs need to be stored in a dark place as they use synthetic organic based dyes that can easily fade when exposed to bright light over extended periods of time.

you should never just leave disks in the car 24/7. The intense temperatures is what damages them.

CD-R use dye, it’s the dye that reacts most with heat and UV.

I have had to play a waiting game as I’m not region free but more and more 3D titles are getting region b releases thankfully.

Yeah, I still feel old though. Although I’m now testing negative for COVID, the cough still remains. Still lacking energy but hopefully that will return soon.

Keep up your blu-ray therapy and you'll be right as rain in no time. You should work to get all region capability ASAP, too.

I'm glad that you are feeling better.

Box Office: Jared Leto’s ‘Morbius’ Bites Off $39M Domestically, $84M Globally - Hollywood Reporter 4/3

The movie, based on the Marvel comic book antihero, is being described by Sony insiders as more of a genre dark-action thriller than a superhero pic.

Quote:
Jared Leto’s new movie Morbius bit off $39.1 million from 4,268 theaters in its domestic box office debut, in line with expectations after withering reviews. Globally, it took in $84 million.

The movie is Sony’s latest attempt to mine the comic book characters it controls as part of Marvel‘s Spider-Man universe following the smash success of its Spider-Man and Venom movies. However, insiders stress that Morbius isn’t a traditional superhero offering, but more of a dark, genre thriller revolving around a vampire. (This messaging isn’t a surprise, considering Morbius‘ modest opening.)

Director Daniel Espinosa‘s film sees Leto juggle time as the brilliant Dr. Michael Morbius — who has spent his life searching for a cure for the rare fatal blood disease that affects him — and as the blood-sucking monster he becomes, which fills his soul with horror.

Morbius cost a reported $75 million to make before marketing, far less than a marquee superhero offering such as Spider-Man: No Way Home, and also less than Venom. Males fueled the film (60 percent), while nearly two-thirds of ticket buyers were between ages 18-34.

Friday’s haul of $17.1 million included $5.7 million in Thursday previews.

Morbius holds just a 17 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics. Audiences are also mixed, giving it a C+ CinemaScore, while exit scores on PostTrak are likewise mediocre. The audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is 67 percent.

Matt Smith and Adria Arjona also star in Marvel’s origin story of the conflicted antihero alongside Jared Harris, Al Madrigal and Tyrese Gibson.

Morbius had no trouble winning the weekend, both domestically and internationally, where it took in $44.9 million from 62 markets for the worldwide tally of $84 million. So far, there’s no talk of a sequel.

Paramount’s The Lost City, starring Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum, came in No. 2 domestically in its sophomore outing with $14.8 million for a North American tally of $54.6 million. It has only rolled out in 17 markets so far overseas for an early foreign total of $7 million and $61.6 million worldwide.

The big player for Paramount overseas was Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which is rolling out in select markets ahead of its April 8 domestic launch. Sonic 2 opened to to $25.5 million from 31 markets.

Warner Bros.’ The Batman sailed past the $700 million mark globally, earning another $10.8 million domestically to place third and $13.4 million overseas for a worldwide total of $710.5 million. Sometime on Monday or Tuesday, the superhero pic will cross $350 million in North America.

Sony’s Uncharted — which now rests at $373.1 million worldwide — place fourth domestically ($3.6 million), while Japanese anime hit Jujutsu Kaisen rounded out the top five with $1.9 million for a domestic tally of $31.4 million.

At the specialty box office, A24’s Everything Everywhere All at Once cracked the top 10, earning $1 million from 38 locations for an impressive per location average of $26,631.

New specialty offerings included Focus Features’ You Won’t Be Alone. The film, from Goran Stolevski in his feature directorial debut, earned $125,000 from 147 theaters. On Sunday, Focus announced it has picked up the Australian filmmaker’s second feature, Of An Age.

April 2, 9 a.m. Updated with Friday numbers.
April 3, 8 a.m. Updated with weekend numbers.

...streaming services face a growing number of people who regularly switch between streaming services

I plan to temporarily subscribe to Netflix to watch S2 and S3 of Lost in Space.

I also plan to temporarily subscribe to Paramount+ (once all of the Picard eps. are available and binge watch them and the other ST streaming only shows).

I always videotape "Red Eye Sci Fi" on MeTV and just started rewatching ST-DS9 on H&I on a LPDTV station.
