when i was buying a sub and I talked to someone at the manufacturer they said there isn't a set standard for sub wattage etc.. some can say peak whatever but it could be for a split second. so I wouldn't only pay attention to that number.

Hi all,

I would be careful trying to make absolute judgments based on specs/individual component size alone. Although subwoofers appear to be pretty simple at first glance truly optimizing a design takes a LONG time and some degree of creativity/skill. You may know the driver size(which as noted above IS an important aspect) but if you don't know the linear excursion capabilities you only have half the equation to determine the POTENTIAL driver air movement capabilities involved. And I say potential because without optimizing the enclosure AND amp to one another AND the driver....you may have a wonderful driver that is solely mis-utilized.

All things being equal a larger driver certainly has more potential for better performance. But its that pesky "all things being equal" cliche.

In the end, don't worry too much about amp specs or driver size...concentrate instead on how the "sum of the parts". That is---how the thing actually works..

That makes sense. One of my friends was just over here. He has a home theater company. He heard the XV15 for the 1st time and said he was very impressed. Couldn't believe it was a ported sub.

Tom, I just finished watching Snow White & The Huntsman. The volley of flaming embers from the castle to the beach scene. OMG! The PSA rocks the house. Fantastic job...

It was a blind buy for me. Good movie with an awesome AQ and PQ you'll love it...

Need to convert your sub/s to passive

Plate amps suck compared to driving the sub with clean power from a separate amplifier. You will not get a cleaner sound from the sub any other way

There are many plate amps that will crush your Emo's at driving subs.

What subs have you heard that you can say that definitively?

I am sure their are a few like if you buy a JL Audio g213 Gotham or one that costs as much

There's no need to go that high, many good plate amps are available below that price point that will compete with stand alone power amps. You don't need to look any further than this thread to find a plate amp that would be a better solution than using a channel off of an Emo amp.
