Josh Trank debunks story synopsis -- but doesn't mention anything about casting, so I guess we still are getting a black Human Torch.

He has said in a commentary that he chose not to reveal the actual Galactus in order to both keep him mysterious and not bind the future director of the Silver Surfer movie to his vision (as heard on the Audio commentary of FF: Rise of the Silve Surfer), which was supposed to be a movie where Galactus would fully appear.

hint also by JMS:
http://www.ign.com/articles/2007/07/...r-surfer-movie

Thus Tim Story and Fox decided to not show Galactus in the FF movie to keep him for the Silver Surfer movie, but the animators from Weta fought indeed not to just include nods for fans, but actual hints at his true form which would supposedly one day be used in the Silver Surfer movie which was then being written by JMS.

Problem is, the Silver Surfer movie got DOA because of the flop of FF:RotSS

concept art for FF:RotSS (then scrapped due to Tim Story's and Fox decision about keeping the "true" Galctus form for the SS movie)
[Show spoiler]

End of OOT
They should have left that it. Maybe he can pull a George Lucas and add it in a rerelease of the blu ray.

So what it’s looking like, is that the back story of what we all knew of the Fantastic Four to be, has been already butchered.

Can we just have F4 go back to Marvel Studios already?

I don't have any plans on going to see this movie. While I was all hyped before Trank announced a "black" Johnny Storm, there are just some characters you don't drastically alter. It would be like if they cast an African American as Peter Parker or a black Superman.

Sure, they sound good on paper and they would be a great idea but these are not characters that can be shifted in their appearance. With characters like Iron Man, where the superhero isn't specific to a single person, you can do that, but these are iconic characters that everyone knows.

Michael Jordan would have made a great Cloak, from Cloak and Dagger. I think Fox owns their rights, as they have right of first refusal on all mutants from Marvel.

I don't know about Fox holding the rights to ALL mutants. Only X-Men and X-Men-related mutants. I'm pretty sure Cloak and Dagger stand on their own. Afterall, Namor the Sub-Mariner is technically a mutant and his rights are currently held by Universal last I heard.

I also doubt that Fox has first right of refusal on all mutants. I believe they are limited to only X-Men related characters. With characters such as Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, those characters aren't exclusive to X-Men as they were originally Avengers characters to begin with.

But, I have to agree with Cloak and Dagger, Michael Jordan would have been better off in that character or maybe even Black Panther or Luke Cage. Far as Namor goes, I don't think he's exclusive to either X-Men or Fantastic Four. He's just been used in multiple comic series as supporting character only. I doubt Fox has an exclusivity to that character.

Actually, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver were originally X-Men characters way before Avengers characters, since they started out as two of the founding members of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, with their father Magneto, before seeing the light and joining the Avengers.

Namor is one of Marvel's first characters, along with the original Human Torch and Captain America, created during WWII. I associate him most as a supporting character of the Fantastic Four, though he has been involved with the X-Men and The Avengers as well, and he's had his own series running ever now and then. But when it comes down to it, his film rights stand on their own and are held by Universal Studios, according to Kevin Feige.

That may be but Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are more associated with The Avengers than they are with the X-Men.

Scarlet Witch, yes, I agree... but Quicksilver is more X-Men related... he's been involved with X-Factor more than any other team.

Some mutants' rights had already been sold off separately by the time of the deals for X-Men, but Fox has some sort of right of first refusal on most Marvel mutants not already tied to one of Marvel's other movie deals. People were attempting to make a Cloak and Dagger movie even before X-Men, since it was only two characters. This is all tied to the quagmire of Marvel selling off their film and television rights, back when they weren't considered valuable.

Before the late 1990s, Hollywood was scared to death of doing teams of superheroes because the FX budgets would have been considered too high to be feasible. The only reason we didn't get Justice League or the Avengers in the 1980s or 1990s was cost, because CGI wasn't in usage yet. Modern CGI has given us the age of multiple heroes in one movie.

I'm not thrilled with changing the race of a major character, but the deal-breaker for me is changing their ages. If they fell the need to make Reed/Ben in their 20s---forget it.

If fans of some reboot version of the comic like that change---great go see it, but if it isn't the classic team I have no interest.

Why can't they have at least released an official synopsis yet?

A few months from full production and no hints as to what direction the movie is going to go---just a denial of the horrendous apparently fake synopsis?
Don't they feel the need to promote the process of putting the movie together? That's part of the excitement of these kinds of movies--the dribs and drabs of casting and plotlines, villains etc?

What's the deal? Are they scared to say anything after the last foul-up with this franchise?

It's quite possible that the Story FF4 movies are going to be seen as being better than the new one.

I hate to say it but I agree with you, toddly. I think Josh Trank might be changing too much about these characters that movie fans are going to be upset over. I hate to say that it's because of Trank changing Johnny Storm's race but that might be too radical for fans to accept.

You can be the best director on the planet but there are just some things that fans might not be willing to accept and this is a pretty big one.

Fans accepting major changes has nothing to do with the quality of the story.

I consider myself to be a pretty big comics nerd.

With that said, it doesn't bother me at all if they want to make Johnny Storm black, as long as his sister is, too. If he is and she isn't, then it's stupid and begs for an explanation which shouldn't be needed.

Also don't really have an issue with making Reed and Ben not much older than Johnny and Sue, since they handled it pretty well in Marvel's Ultimate run.

But regardless, I'd have much higher faith if Marvel was calling the shots.

Marvel could still end that casting because I believe they might have the right to end those casting choices if it proves to be harmful to their intellectual property.

Marvel has some say into what happens but I don't think they have any veto power. Fox is going to do what it wants and continue to screw up Marvels characters.

Lol

"We're filing a cease and desist because you made Johnny black!"
