I don't have any plans on going to see this movie. While I was all hyped before Trank announced a "black" Johnny Storm, there are just some characters you don't drastically alter. It would be like if they cast an African American as Peter Parker or a black Superman.
Sure, they sound good on paper and they would be a great idea but these are not characters that can be shifted in their appearance. With characters like Iron Man, where the superhero isn't specific to a single person, you can do that, but these are iconic characters that everyone knows. |

I don't know about Fox holding the rights to ALL mutants. Only X-Men and X-Men-related mutants. I'm pretty sure Cloak and Dagger stand on their own. Afterall, Namor the Sub-Mariner is technically a mutant and his rights are currently held by Universal last I heard.

I also doubt that Fox has first right of refusal on all mutants. I believe they are limited to only X-Men related characters. With characters such as Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, those characters aren't exclusive to X-Men as they were originally Avengers characters to begin with.
But, I have to agree with Cloak and Dagger, Michael Jordan would have been better off in that character or maybe even Black Panther or Luke Cage. Far as Namor goes, I don't think he's exclusive to either X-Men or Fantastic Four. He's just been used in multiple comic series as supporting character only. I doubt Fox has an exclusivity to that character. |

Some mutants' rights had already been sold off separately by the time of the deals for X-Men, but Fox has some sort of right of first refusal on most Marvel mutants not already tied to one of Marvel's other movie deals. People were attempting to make a Cloak and Dagger movie even before X-Men, since it was only two characters. This is all tied to the quagmire of Marvel selling off their film and television rights, back when they weren't considered valuable.
Before the late 1990s, Hollywood was scared to death of doing teams of superheroes because the FX budgets would have been considered too high to be feasible. The only reason we didn't get Justice League or the Avengers in the 1980s or 1990s was cost, because CGI wasn't in usage yet. Modern CGI has given us the age of multiple heroes in one movie. |

I'm not thrilled with changing the race of a major character, but the deal-breaker for me is changing their ages. If they fell the need to make Reed/Ben in their 20s---forget it.
If fans of some reboot version of the comic like that change---great go see it, but if it isn't the classic team I have no interest. Why can't they have at least released an official synopsis yet? A few months from full production and no hints as to what direction the movie is going to go---just a denial of the horrendous apparently fake synopsis? Don't they feel the need to promote the process of putting the movie together? That's part of the excitement of these kinds of movies--the dribs and drabs of casting and plotlines, villains etc? What's the deal? Are they scared to say anything after the last foul-up with this franchise? |

I hate to say it but I agree with you, toddly. I think Josh Trank might be changing too much about these characters that movie fans are going to be upset over. I hate to say that it's because of Trank changing Johnny Storm's race but that might be too radical for fans to accept.
You can be the best director on the planet but there are just some things that fans might not be willing to accept and this is a pretty big one. |

I consider myself to be a pretty big comics nerd.
With that said, it doesn't bother me at all if they want to make Johnny Storm black, as long as his sister is, too. If he is and she isn't, then it's stupid and begs for an explanation which shouldn't be needed. Also don't really have an issue with making Reed and Ben not much older than Johnny and Sue, since they handled it pretty well in Marvel's Ultimate run. But regardless, I'd have much higher faith if Marvel was calling the shots. |

Marvel has some say into what happens but I don't think they have any veto power. Fox is going to do what it wants and continue to screw up Marvels characters.
