Would anyone like to see Joss Whedon's Episode 7? He's already working for Disney, he can juggle characters really well, plus he can make the female roles big (which I think has been lacking in Star Wars). All that and he can direct great action sequences, and he makes space really interesting.

The space battle in Serenity ALMOST rivals some of the space battles of Star Wars. And the ground battle of Avengers beats nearly every action sequence, ever...

Opinions of course. Don't hate me...

The Marvel movies have been great since Disney acquired those rights, no reason to think they won't keep Star Wars true to its roots as well.
Agreed. Marvel was doing their own thing with Iron Man, Iron Man 2 and The Incredible Hulk, Disney purchased Marvel and they have kept their hands away. I don't see what the problem is.

Two notes people seem to be overlooking...
Quote:
Disney purchased “extensive and detailed” treatment for at least Episode 7 (and possibly Episodes 8 and 9 as well) as part of this deal which they “feel very good about.”

Lucas will serve as creative consultant on new Star Wars films. Kathleen Kennedy will executive produce.
Yes. Those are Lucas' treatments for 7, 8, and 9. So those are certainly going to be what the new movies will be.

So it'll likely follow the 30+ years after Return of the Jedi. And only Luke (maybe) and the Droids appearing.

I think one could, easily, slip into a state of unconsciousness trying to think of all the possibilities this deal has to offer!

Was just on BBC news, so clearly is the real deal, if anyone still had their doubts...

Apparently, in the official statement that Disney released, they're hoping to pass the franchise on to "the younger generation of film-makers". If they stick to that, and manage to allow the series to younger, up-coming directors, then it might go in the right direction (less of a bastardization of the original SW and more of an allowing of traditions to be passed, and so forth...)

Well, now I'm quite excited.

I also think this is a great thing. Disney buying Lucasfilm is no different than when Disney bought marvel. Sure, they own them, but the company runs itself while Disney helps back them and release the films. Marvel's output hasn't changed, and they won't have any effect on just how these Star Wars films turn out. I'm also under the impression that a non Lucas written and produced Star Wars film is a good thing. This is a chance for the series to really get a breath of fresh air with new directors and writers. I'm honesty giddy as hell at the thought. This was an excellent move for all parties involved.

You can almost guarantee that not happening. Unless it's a Pixar or Disney Animation adaption of the story.

None of the original cast are looking well enough to return for it. And you know Harrison Ford won't come back.

Wait? How is that possible? I thought so many thought GL was the devil!

Not me. I don't agree with every Georgie has done, but I can certainly say this:

George Lucas has given me much more than he's taken away...and for that I thank him!

This may make more sense than you might think. Lucas know's (unlike some of the young fanboys roaming the Internet) that he is not immortal. He is 68 years old now and looking around I think he really doesn't have anyone to pass this one to. I saw Jim Henson do the same thing 20 plus years ago and probably figured "who else but Disney?" since he always considered Star Wars as kids stories anyway (even if again the Internet fanboys disagre). My only concern, Disney is no longer the "old Disney" (I know some here hold them in high regard but the company is no longer what it was) and they could just destroy this till it's dry. However if they set it up like they do with Marvel, put a good guy on top of it and let them run the show, this could give us some nice movies in the coming years....The Old Republic anyone?

I think Joss Whedon would be fine. Sombody like him, Gore Verbinski, Matthew Vaughn, or even somebody young like Duncan Jones will end up getting it.

Kevin Smith should not direct a clone wars episode, much less a movie.

At this point I wouldn't say never to anything.
If they want to adapt the Thrawn series(which I hope they do), it could be done...with or without the original cast members.

Good idea, Beast.

Original stories for 7-9, and Pixar animations of classic books/comics.

My future Blu collection is rising at a rapid rate...

All scripts are based on treatments and rarely does the final product look like the treatment. I doubt the final film will be much of lucas treatment.

But even if it is, he isnt directing and it wont be a bunch of yes men doing everything he says. Kucas has good idead he just needs someone to ignore the crappy ones. Disney wont use his crappy ideas and the director will have say over lucas treatments.

Yeah, cause they would never hire a comic book nerd. Like that Joss Whedon guy. He'll never get work with Disney.

Let me first say that I am shocked that George sold his baby...But I am glad it went to Disney vs. a company like Warner Bros.

Lastly, I'm really happy there will be more Star Wars movies. I'm a little giddy like a school girl

Thrawn story seems to be the one everyone is hoping for. I remember reading these when I was a kid.
