£7 in Sainsbury's, or £4.99 in HMV.

Yup, seemingly they just repressed the 35th Anniversary disc from Anchor Bay rather than encode a new disc using the new 4K restoration. They reserved that exclusively for the UHD disc. That's why I returned my copy from HMV - I already own the Anchor Bay steelbook (OOP), so already have that disc.

Nice! Weird they didn't mention it anywhere if so. Lionsgate have somehow made a hash of this...fingers crossed StudioCanal do a better job with their upcoming four Carpenter releases.

I'm guessing it's the 35th Anniversary disc again, as Lionsgate likely did that to avoid paying any extra BBFC fees for submitting new extras. I could be wrong but that'd make the most sense.

The US release includes the 2007 disc though, as that was the standard catalogue release of the film.

US 4k/BD has older 2007 BD but the 4k has 35th with HDR
single UK BD has 35th

Seems like the Anchor Bay 35th disc is still in print in the US whereas it went OOP a while ago over here. Makes sense that Lionsgate would just repress the 35th for the UK but revert to repressing the older 2007 disc (albeit still an Anchor Bay version) for the US 4K, and there appears to be no standalone US '40th anniversary' Blu-ray either.

Seems weird that Lionsgate could only get the 4K rights and not the BD rights in the US, usually the rights are the rights are the rights, but with all these different formats I guess it's not a surprise that a new format might transcend any prior rights situation. Whereas over here it's much more clear-cut, Lionsgate have got both BD and 4K.

I've been in my local HMV twice last week and all they had in was the new DVD version. Couldn't see the blu ray anywhere.

I assume they include the older BD so they were able to include the 90 minute documentary which presumably is not on the later BD. The UHD has different bonuses too

Did Anchor Bay use the original 35th anniversary disc for the standard BD or did they use the corrected one with the original mono mix and the extra commentary track that's in the box set?

I really hate Amazon UK lately. All my pre-orders don't ship until after the movie has been released for a few days... I've pre-ordered this one and the Limited edition of S5 of agents of shield months ago and they won't ship it. Estimated arrival is next week, but if I order today I get them thursday... Asked them what's up since this happened with The Last Jedi, Black Panther and Avengers 4K discs and they said they can't help that and will not alter the deal in the future... Why bother putting stuff in pre-order then?

Also my order changed from the Halloween set with artcards to without. Hope I'm still getting them.

The HMV listing still shows the artcards if anyone hasn't placed an order yet.

Last week, my local HMV had a single copy of the blu on the shelves. The rest were all on the counter by the tills with the rest of their 'cheap with any other purchase' offers.

This week, no sign of the blu anywhere instore. Hundreds of copies of the DVD though.

I've noticed this too - my pre orders on the other John Carpenter 4k sets are listed with an estimated shipping date of 4-5 days AFTER release date. Every order I place with them for non pre order stuff ships within two days max. Very frustrating, and I know I'm at least guaranteeing that I get the product before it sells out, but I'd be surprised if these sold out so quickly. Would have been nice to have The Fog for Halloween night.

Check your order history. Sometimes when this happens it is because the method of delivery has 'mysteriously' changed to a slower method.

I went in again today and they had these new blu rays in the horror blu ray section. £4.99 with any purchase so I got one.

You know it is the 35th anniversary BD don't you? I hope you don't have that one already.

Sadly I've tried this - the only option it will give me for shipping is 'Free Standard Delivery'. Not sure if this is because I'm ordering from Ireland or something.

I've heard that rationale, I think Shout included the 2007 Blu in their boxset for the same reason...but why not do it on the UK 4K release as well? Instead you've got the exact same bonus content on each disc.

The boxset version is just that: exclusive to that Shout boxset. What Anchor Bay used for us was the same as their standalone US version, i.e. downmixed mono and no extra commentary. Shout also fixed up their 7.1 track a little bit too, there's always been a pitch change in the music after Annie shouts "speed kills!" but in their 7.1 the music stays the same pitch. Whether that was at the director's behest or was some enterprising young sound mixer thinking that they were fixing a goof is unclear.
