Just randomly sharing:
I initially got a samsung ssd from Best Buy. Installed it in my PS5 and was expecting the format message when I booted backup. No message, so thought that was odd. When I looked on the drive, there were like 20 games installed from someone else on this sealed, brand new ssd. Funny thing...I called Best Buy and the rep said "sometimes they come preinstalled with games." Which I chuckled about and said, no, they don't, these are someone's else's games that I don't have access to because I didn't buy them. Returned the drive and eventually snagged a western digital which is working great. I'm sure the samsung would have worked fine and I could just reformat it, I just didn't like the idea of a sealed product having someone else's stuff on it and found it a bit funny. |

Personally i am glad these drives are coming down quicker again and it bodes well for the future. The PS6 or whatever next gen consoles we have are likely to be able to use the next 5.0 gen and be even faster and hopefully truly usher in the potential PS5 exclusives showed off in games like Ratchet & Clank to instantly zip in and out of game areas. |

And yeah, definitely great that the prices are staying reasonable and seem to keep going down as time goes on. I'd love to get more space for my Series X as well, but since they only have the one option from seagate, that price has stayed pretty high...twice as much as I paid for the western digital for my PS5. |

Just picked up a 1TB Corsair for my son for $80. Spent another $9 on basic heatsink. It won't arrive for another week and a half.

The prices on the NVMe drives are coming down nicely and i've got to be honest, i'm super tempted to try and grab a 2TB sometime soon, even though i got quite a bit of space left on the 1TB i upgraded to a while back.
I think it's interesting that the speeds are slowly shifting up again in the PC space to 7000Mb/s plus, so i am curious what speed the next gen consoles after PS5 would end up with considering there's reports this gen is going to be as long as PS4 was. I know there's more than 2TB available but the fact you can pick up a solid 2TB drive for around £150 or less on offer now, it's getting pretty good value equivalent to what NVMe drives did cost, but still a little bit off what mechanical HDD drives cost. |

Some claim you need to upgrade the firmware whilst some say its not needed which is causing confusion for those looking at that particular model for the PS5. |

Had a 2015 Samsung SSD in my PS4. Memory issues after 4 years. My Samsung External SSD for PS5 I bought a few years back is already showing signs of memory issues that require a full System restart to correct. I put a 2TB WD M.2 this time for my PS5 instead of going Samsung. When people were testing both drives a common theme was popping up. When PS5 reads the drive it tests its speed. The 980 always came in around 5.5GB/s while the WD always came in around 6.5GB/s. |

If anyone is looking to get a good SSD upgrade, WD - maker of the official PS5 SSDs - is offering solid discounts. I picked up the 8TB, for just shy of $800 and I also got a surprise 15% discount code that I can use later, by putting the SSD in my cart and leaving it there overnight, before checking out.

Anyone know if there's an easy way to transfer game from one internal SSD to another? I'd like to get an 8 TB but reinstalling dozens of games indiivdually will be a major pain.

There is also the faster way if you have an M.2 already. I timed how long it took for console to M.2 to transfer 1.5TB. Was roughly 20 minutes. Transferring that amount back to internal took 1 hour 30 min. |

I've noticed here in the UK the bigger brands pricing hasn't seemed to be getting much lower again but with Black Friday on the horizon, perhaps we might get to see WD, Samsung etc. branded drives get closer to £100 for 2TB sizing. You can go for some Chinese branded versions for around £100 or under but my bias tells me not to fully trust that they would have long term reliability and the ability to get an exchange if something goes wrong seems limited too depending on where you bought.
I have a 1TB atm, i think i'm managing it fine so far so i'm thinking i might just leave things as they are unless some really good Black Friday deals come along. |

I’d recommend WD Black with Heatsink, not the PS Official Licensed one. You pay extra for the same drive just because it has a PS logo on the drive.
Also, 2TB I found seems like enough. I think the 4TB I got was a bit overkill for the PS5 Pro. (20 PS5 games, 3 PS4 games, 4TB free space. lol Lastly, one bit of shocker I found when doing SSD transfer is the internal storage on Pro is actually 1.57TB free space. |

Derb can confirm if its what i think, but maybe installing the removable M.2 drive into tye new console, transferring all the games into the internal and then at the time that's going on, use the new drive to install into the old consoles expansion drive to transfer the rest of the games onto the new drive, then simply remove the old expansion drive (clear it if you want) and plug the new M.2.drive in and voila, all your games on the new console in probably a quicker time.

Yeah, Narmak is right. The faster way is using your existing M.2 to transfer that data to the PS5 internal. Then once that is done, transfer what you want to a different M.2
Of course you need 2 M.2 drives. If you don’t have 2 the alternative is a USB SSD External drive. Then there is the obvious fastest way. If you have 1 M.2 drive, you don’t need to transfer anything. |
