It looks like your player is sending lossy DTS instead of lossless dts-MA. With Panasonics, that is usually caused by leaving Secondary Audio set to On.

The processing is a little different between the cinema and music modes. Music also has dimension and panorama controls that allow you deepen and widen the surround effects. I use Music rather than Movie with stereo sources because I find the Movie mode produces too much center channel for my taste.

At what point does it stay at a standard for all of us to play catch up and buy equipment to benefit from what that standard is? Most likely never as mfr's are driven to outperform/out feature the competition. Well.for now untill 7.1 is in the rear view mirror, it will have to do for me. I'm seeing a fairly lengthly list of discrete 7.1 titles coming out now and even old classics redone in HD and in discrete 7.1 DTS-MA as in "The Sound of Music" which looks amazing and sounds unbelievable.

Cheers!

Well Kevin, reality is what we're facing every day!

And old original movie scores that were recorded in Mono, eventually will be remastered or remixed
in 11.2-channel! ...So don't be too surprised there!

Cheers,
Bob

You don't need a Y splitter, just use the 2nd Sub Preout of your Denon AVR-3311CI receiver.

Like BIslander is saying in the below quote.
* Set your Panny BD85 player with the Secondary Audio to Off.
And Bitstream of course.

* Then you should see in your Denon AVR-4310CI receiver's front panel window display, DTS-HD Mstr and also with the 6.1-channel speaker boxes illuminated on the left (Input). And 7.1-channel speaker boxes if you are using two Back surround speakers, on the right side of your receiver's display (Output), but the original audio mix is Mono in the Back surround channel.
If your Denon receiver is set to "Auto" for the Audio, you should be all set.

It did it. Thank you sooooo much you 2. This site An error in one setting makes a whole lot of difference. Just wondered what would happen to us newbies without the expertise of members around here..

Default Audyssey

After running Audyssey auto setup on here's the results I got.

Front: large with x-over at 40hz (usiing: Energy RC-30 rated 41hz-20K)

Center: small with x-over at 60hz (using: Energy RC- L/C/R rated 48hz-20k)

Surrounds: small with x-over at 80hz (using Energy RC-R rated 58hz-20k)
(surrounds are set to "dipole" setting)

sub set to LFE only (using Energy S10.3 sub)

should I tweak some of this? set all to small? change x-over settings? extend cutoff on sub?

what do you guys suggest?

Thanks in advance for everyones input

This may be out of place since I don't have Audyssey or a Denon but when I've fiddled with my front sound stage, I found that it's best for the center and front left/right to be set the same during movies. You don't want, in your case, to have your towers set to 'large' and your center to 'small'. This will cause issues when lower freq noises pan across and there is a noticeable drop in performance due to the adjustments kicking in. Same goes for the hz setting too. I'll just set it to whatever my center is capable and have my towers match that, everything else set to small.

ymmv

I don't believe the Denon AVR-3311CI has two separate Sub adjustments; they are summed up into one. Audyssey I believe will give you the distance of the closest one, and with the electronic delay compensation of course; so don't change that distance, EVER!

* Best is to have them physically at about the same distance from you.
And make sure they are both set to 0 degree Phase.
And you have to Balanced their Gain with each other so they are exactly at the same Volume level (from their own Gain controls on their back).
And that has to be done first, before you run Audyssey.
-> See the Audyssey Setup Guide link under my signature; and if you didn't read it, please do so with the utmost attention. You'll have all the answers to your questions there, or very close to it.

Set all your speakers with a crossover of 80 Hz (just like it is already set at that frequency for your Surrounds).

* Also, in your Denon receiver make sure the LPF of the LFE channel is set at 120 Hz.

** Read the Audyssey Setup Guide link in my sig.

I was exaggerating a bit there (11.2-channel perhaps by the year 2030, I mean discrete channels here, not pseudo like it is right now). ...5.1 is all we truly need. ...And that's how 97.85% of all audio mixes are encoded on our discs.
- And smart audio mixers will always give you the original Mono audio mix.

* Put your money towards a second sub.

lotr you have steered me in the right direction my friend.

That read on the audyssey site about the human ear not being able to detect the direction of freq lower than 80hz was something i never knew before.

speakers at 80hz and sub set to 120hz.

with a slight overlap between 80 and 120hz is that an issue at all? also with the avr doing bass mgnt, and the sub set to bypass its internal crossover does the phase control have any effect? i didnt detect any

Hi Frnds..
I am planning to purchase the Denon 1911...
I wanted to know if I am buying the right speakers.. I am planning to attach the Q-Acoustics 2000 Cinema Package with this Reciever.
Wat are your suggestions ?
Do you suggest any other speakers (in the same budget line)

Is there a big difference in sound quality between (AKM) AK4358 DAC and the Burr-Brown DAC (don't know the exact model because they don't list in specs) featured on the RX-V567?

Thumbs up Kudos To Denon!

Denon has announced an upgrade for the AVP-A1HDCI and AVR-5308CI. Pricing for the upgrade will be $1099. The biggest (for me) is the addition of Audyssey XT32. The AVP continues to be the flagship to beat.

http://usa.denon.com/US/Downloads/Pa...t-Updates.aspx

Quote:
AVP-A1HDCI(A)
It’s Official! Denon will be offering an upgrade to our flagship A/V Surround components, the AVP-A1HDC1. The upgrade program will begin in October and will include the following feature enhancements to these already incredible products, ensuring them of being the entertainment centerpiece to their owners’ home.

What is included in this upgrade

  • Audyssey MultEQ XT32 (including Audyssey Pro)
  • Audyssey DSX Surround Processing
  • Dolby PLIIz Surround Processing
  • 3D Video Pass-through via HDMI
