Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)

Just finished watching this. I’m a massive fan of the first two Godzilla films and Kong Skull Island but this one just didn’t hit the same notes. It was awfully close to being a Transformers film with the random jokes at inappropriate times. It felt rushed as if they were worried about critics complaining it was too long.

The ending was flat after the final battle too. My biggest complaint is the lack of a great score. That hurt it more and made a lot of moments that should have been epic, feel as if they weren’t.

This is up there with Rise of Skywalker when it comes to disappointments for me personally. I get the feeling they tried to pander to internet critics of the first two films much like that film did. Shame.

It’s not a bad film, but it’s very average.

I watched this last night out of sheer boredom. Bad story, bad script, annoying characters, unconvincing CGI, and lotsa things go "BOOM".

If I had been 12, I would have loved it.

I don't think this is actually a plot hole.

The computer linked the skull in the base to the robot, and destroying it severed that. The only thing that had stopped functioning before that point was the "pilot" wasn't the one controlling him, the Ghidorah skull was. The "autonomy" was that the skull, still back in the base, was now controlling him through the computer. Not like Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla where the skull was built into the robot.

Couldn't agree more... I was beginning to wonder if it was just me. After watching it last night I checked RT and couldn't believe my freakin eyes when I saw the score.

I had a lot of fun with godzilla vs kong, the battle sequences were great and the runtime was spot on at under 2 hours. We're I rank it is a little difficult as it clearly has its issues and it's not vastly better then the other films. All around though this series has been extremely solid which I'm happy to report. Still I'm a little surprised that this movie was just as dumb with it's story and characters yet is being praised way more then KOTM ever was which I believe a good amount of that hate is very unfair and unwarranted. There are a good amount of aspects that KOTM still does better then GvK and truthfully they're about the same level of movies. Fun as hell but nonsensical.

I should have watched it in IMAX. I heard that version has a better script.

What was even the point of him in this movie. He literally had nothing to do. I like mindless fun as much as the next guy but I seriously can't remember being less invested in a group of characters in a movie... like ever!

I don't mean to labor over the details of theses asinine plots, really. The fights were rugged and Jia was adorable, but, I can't help it LOL It's just the way I'm wired, I guess.

Yeah, the plot makes no sense, and you care about none of the human characters besides the mute girl.
But the action is fun and well done and visually beautiful. This film is an HDR delight.

[Show spoiler]They were able to harvest the DNA from Ghidorah's skull to controll it, instead of the pilot..that's how I took it.

Just about all showings near me are sold out until Monday. It'll be tough resisting the urge to watch it on HBO max before then.

avs is right, the HDR really makes the colors explode onto the screen. The cinematography alone really makes this one worth seeing.
