For the record, I thought Infinity War was going to be a cluster****. All those heroes vs Thanos. I thought it would be a mess and they pulled it off. I’m hoping for a similar structure with Doomsday. A movie focused on Doom as the main character and the Marvel heroes trying stop him achieving his goal.

Sad this derailed the F4 thread so much so I'll just say that I loved this cast and can't wait to see them in Doomsday. I hope we get to see Johnny and Spidey meet.

I will be massively disappointed if Johnny isn’t on Spidey’s team.
I also want Shuri and Reed to trade ideas.

Spidey and Johnny have to get together to work on the Spider-Mobile.

No matter how much a lot of fans liked this film it’s not a surprise that it’s underperforming.

Kids (especially boys) right now like video games first and foremost and manga/anime second. Dinosaurs still have wide appeal, but DC and Marvel superheroes, not so much.

As a friend who has boys aged 11, 13 and 15 said, they’re not interested in stretchy science dads, they’re interested in stretchy straw-hatted pirates (*).

(*) One Piece for the uninitiated.

If there's a big audience for manga/anime theatrical movies in the US, they've never shown up in large enough numbers to compete with any Marvel movie, even The Marvels.

Pity they didn’t give K-pop Demon Hunters a wider release theatrically rather than a nominal one to qualify for awards. The results might have been interesting. Bear in mind it would’ve cost about a fifth of what any Marvel or DC film this year would’ve cost. On streaming it got 80million views in 90 days.

But there’s no doubt that video game films are doing a lot better than this year’s crop of superhero films. Minecraft cost $100m less than Captain America BNW and made over twice as much.

Is it underperforming? That’d too bad. I’d much rather watch FF than yet another Jurassic Park milk job. Don’t care how good the JP film allegedly is either. Same old shit. Again. And again.

I’m shocked at the money the new JP is making, honestly. Is the audience made up of 40+ year old men just stroking it to Scar Jo?

This applies to both franchises.

Looks like a big drop this weekend starting yesterday; what happened with the numbers?
Is it the beginning of things to come?

Because only the James Bond franchise has anywhere close to as many films, and it's 7 short. Not that Bond would win with an equal number of movies. But the point is, you can't make a fair comparison. It could be argued that the MCU could be several billion more ahead if it hadn't changed the formula after Endgame and turned it into the MSHEU and MLGBTU.

Your question is disingenuous (I think you know it is and like to intentionally mislead because you are an insufferable fan-they). Nobody could be as statistically challenged as you. You should drop the "confused" emoji.

Shame this had such a big drop off but that's just the way it goes sometimes.

It started before yesterday, Friday August 1st.
People are on vacation; gone camping, hiking, fishing, swimming. It's summertime, fantastic time to be in the nature with the wildlife.

I can’t remember the last time rooting for a film to do well at the Box Office. Maybe when I was 15? It was definitely High School.

At this point, watching the downward death spiral of the industry is more enjoyable then any modern dreck released in the last 5 years.

Most newer films are just creatively bankrupt derivative storytelling wrapped in the tropes dujour (trauma). This the reason why I am on this board (collecting physical media from across the world and history).

If I have little to no interest in a film, then I don't really care about its fate. But if its a story I care about, then I'm much more affected when it does poorly. For example, I truly love "The Mummy" and "The Mask of Zorro", greatly anticipating both sequels at the time. But they were both pathetic trashfests, and that's being nice. As such, I will never own either on home video, just the originals.
