I see that your first image is of an under table front projcetor... For a second, it looked to me like another product we had - it amounted to a giant magnifying glass that one would put in front of a 20 or so inch CRT. An uncle of mine that had an encyclopedic knowledge of movies had one..for a moment seeing that photo brought back some memories...

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore’ Can’t Find Magic With $43M Box Office Bow - Hollywood Reporter 4/17

The third installment in the Harry Potter Wizarding franchise opened in North America over Easter weekend.

Quote:
Warner Bros.’ Wizarding World is in trouble on the movie side.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore opened to a tepid $43 million at the domestic box office over Easter weekend after earning $20.1 million on Friday, including $6 million in Thursday previews. It is faring better overseas, where it earned another $71 million for a global tally of $193 million (it opened last weekend in select markets).

The $200 million movie — which marks the third installment in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter spinoff franchise — is landing well behind his predecessors. As franchises become ever more important to Hollywood studios, it remains to be seen whether this particular series can keep going.

Directed by David Yates, Secrets of Dumbledore stars Eddie Redmayne, Jude Law, Mads Mikkelsen, Ezra Miller, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, William Nadylam, Callum Turner, Jessica Williams and Victoria Yeates.

In 2016, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them debuted to $74.4 million domestically after earning an A CinemaScore. The second installment, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, came in below that, or $62.2 million, or 16 percent. Dumbledore came in 30 percent behind Grindelwald.

Both Grindelwald and Dumbledore earned a B+ CinemaScore.

The Fantastic Beasts series has never caught on in the way Harry Potter did. Complicating matters, there has been plenty of behind-the-scenes drama and production delays due to COVID-19.

Ezra Miller, who plays Credence Barebone in all three films, made headlines after appearing to choke a fan outside a club and, most recently, allegedly harassed people at a bar in Hawaii and broke into a couple’s hotel room. Then there is the series progenitor, Rowling, who has spent the past two years expressing her anti-trans views.

And Johnny Depp, who played the Fantastic Beasts villain Gellert Grindelwald in the second installment, left Secrets of Dumbledore when he became embroiled in domestic abuse allegations made by his ex-wife, Amber Heard. (Depp was replaced by Mads Mikkelsen.)

Warner Bros. had a good story to tell with Matt Reeves’s The Batman, which flew past the $750 million mark at the global box office, including $365 million in domestic receipts and $386 million internationally. The film is the top-grossing film of 2022 to date, and one of the biggest of the pandemic.

Other new offerings this weekend include Sony’s religious-themed Father Stu, which tells the true story of a former boxer and two-bit actor who becomes a priest. Mark Wahlberg, Mel Gibson and Jacki Weaver star. Wahlberg is also one of the film’s producers and put up some of the financing.

Father Stu opened midweek in order to take advantage of kids being out of school for spring break. Sony is projecting a five-day debut of $8 million, including $5.7 million for the weekend itself.

Audiences that turned out for Father Stu certainly liked it, giving it an A CinemaScore and stellar exit polls. The movie did best among blue-collar crowds, and also generated big interest in Helena, Montana, where Father Stu is from.

For the weekend itself, Father Stu placed No. 5.

Among holdovers, Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2 came in second in is sophomore outing with $30 million as it jumped the $100 million mark to finish Easter Sunday with a domestic total of $119.6 million and a strong $231.8 million worldwide.

Romantic action-adventure The Lost City — likewise from Paramount — held in well with $6.5 million for a domestic total of $78.6 million and $99 million globally.

Indie breakout Everything Everywhere All At Once, from A24, moved up to No. 4 as it expanded into a total of 2,200 locations. The film grossed $6.2 million for a domestic tally of $17.7 million.

April 16, 8:45 a.m. Updated with Friday numbers.
April 17, 8:55 a.m. Updated with revised weekend numbers.

As far as the streaming argument and preferences, etc. - there's that failed streaming service Quibi that failed pretty spectacularly a couple of years ago. Not only did Quibi seek out those that watched most of their content on mobile devices, it also had content of only a few minutes per episode (depending if it was a serial or film I think). It catered to those heavy into social media and folks with short attention spans.

I watched The Apartment 4K SDR disc yesterday and not only was it a great film (never seen it before) but the 4K SDR was fantastic. The dedicated thread is a cluster, because folks are hung up on nonsense, but the 4K disc recommended.

I rented Eastern Promises 4K disc and Fritz Lang's Spies on BD, so I will watch those this coming week. I am now watching new episodes of Fear the Walking Dead on AMC+.

The above quotes from you are the delusion that I was referring to. They do not resemble anything I have said...but you know that.....and besides, I thought we agreed to draw a line under this...You were supposed to ignore me..

When I was young and full of piss and vinegar like you, I probably would have written something as ridiculous about what I was willing to die for...and meant it.

I just turned 50 and have embarrassed myself enough by engaging a kid on the internet. You can have the last word son...Go ahead..
I’m 3 years younger than you, son.

Yeah, I get it. You don’t like to be proven wrong, none of us do. You need to just deflate you ego a bit.

Anyway, one of us needs to put the other on ignore so just stop replying to me.

Watched the first half hour of THE BATMAN with my kids...They woke me up as the credits rolled. They gave the 4K HDR /ATMOS presentation a thumbs up! I can vouch for the bass, as my tactile transducers rocked me to sleep....

My long suffering wife was not so impressed. As I dragged myself to bed shortly after 3 this morning she too was able to vouch for the bass. It seems that the dadcave was left at full volume from the day's earlier showing of DEATH ON THE NILE..

Thanks for that. The reason for the disparity in rack height is a large device had been sold. I had a Teac A-3340S in that space, it was equipped with 19" rack mount option and I had constructed a slanted cabinet for it with cover so I could transport it to a field location. When in place on the rack cabinet I had a light box with pastel colored lights that lit up the front panel. Sure wish I had made pictures of it.

That equipment rack was constructed with a skirt and I had six heavy duty casters so it could be moved but they could not be seen. In 2006 I constructed a new equipment that was taller and deeper. When we moved to our current location I removed the skirt and casters and used that rack in our home theater.

Not current, ATSC/QAM Tuner removed, Zidoo Z9X and Zappiti Neo media players added.

It was a Kloss Novabeam Model 1A floor model. Kloss had an adapter for ceiling mount. Had it for 19 years. Luckily, there was a company that re-built* the Novatron tubes for about $230 each.

*Most of the tube was reused, the old filament and grid is removed and replaced with a new one. A common practice in the days of CRT TV's.

IIRC Verizon go90 was another flop with similar intentions as Quibi.

My first projector was a SONY 3 gun CRT that I rescued from an old boardroom application. The convergence grid on my new JVC gave me flashbacks.. LOL..

You really have to give us more pics of your current rig. One of my favourite things about this forum is the ability to peep in on other's galleries. Although I understand what you mean by wishing you had taken more photos. I have to update my own gallery here as my setup has gone through a number of changes that I wished I'd documented.

No, not at all. I sure hope it was thrilling for you when you procured your new AVR and speakers for immersive audio. Same for your new 85" display. Wish you more thrills in the future, like adding a subwoofer(s), new and/or larger displays, new disc player(s), media player(s), etc.

I can do that on my own without you causing me to have a bad case of projector envy.
I really do not wish to create any envy, I just love this hobby and like to share my/our efforts with others so that it may create a little inspiration for them. I was/am happy for you and others here that continue to improve upon their home theaters.

I just clicked on your link for the TEAC...Damn if some of your pictures don't stir up memories. My in-laws still have that unit. About 20 years ago when my son was a couple of months old, I would have discovered it at their house and dug it out.

It turns out that my brother -in law had recorded a couple of hours of interview with my wife's grandfather for some school project about his experiences in Hungary during the holocaust. As she translated his words from yiddish to english, I was freaked out by how much some of his experiences mirrored what my father had described about his activities in Vietnam. Something changed in me that day. I haven't spoken to my dad in 20 years. i have no idea if he's alive or dead.

I have the same one.

The 4K edition only scored a 3.5 for video in the blu-ray.com review and the reviewer said there were few tangible improvements to be seen over the blu-ray, so I will stick with what I have.

Been binging Britannia (I just started Season 3) and it is great! It's in 4K SDR / 5.1 via Epix. The actress Annabel Scholey who plays Amena, at least the way she's styled in the series, reminds me of a young Constance Money - but British.

Had to tweak my cinema screening of Northman until Saturday afternoon in Dolby Cinema.

Subscriber numbers for U.K. streaming services declines by 1.5 million in Q1 2022

https://deadline.com/2022/04/uk-stre...rt-1235005419/

As you guys know, I have long suspected Netflix will have to go ad-supported as an option, I think that will happen in 2023, these grim numbers will be echoed across Europe because of the cost of living crisis.

Also, in the U.K., ad supported service ITV X is coming this year, it’s one of our main channels/ broadcasters and Netflix will need to boost their numbers in response.

You Brits must have better taste than the rest of us.

I don't much care what options Netflix offers, here or anywhere, as my access to them is my favorite four letter word: FREE. I do think Netflix sucks more than an industrial vacuum ever could for charging extra to view in what they call 4K. Most streaming providers charge the same amount no matter the resolution in which you view their content.

Next will be France, they are in just as big a mess as U.K. no doubt. If Netflix want to remain a global force, they need to go to a
ad-supported tier.

Amazon are actually gaining on Netflix in a massive way. Don’t know if that’s the same in USA?
