Amazon are actually gaining on Netflix in a massive way. Don’t know if that’s the same in USA?
What kind of plans Netflix offers interests me about as much as Quibi did.

Might be a little harder to gauge with Amazon as Amazon Prime membership includes their streaming whether you want it or not. I have been a Prime member since its inception in 2005 long before streaming was a part of it and my still being a member has nothing to do with their streaming service, yet they probably consider me as one of their most loyal streaming customers.

They will probably get a surge of viewers from having all the Bond films. Well, in the U.K. anyway.

Here's the U.S. stat on users:

Netflix shares drop 26% after it loses 200K subscribers

Shares down 26%. Buy the dip!

I can’t believe they think doubling down on people sharing passwords will help their cause. Most will just say “bugger it!”.

Adding mobile gaming won’t help either. Ads are inevitable.

I call nonsense on those saying it's due to the price increase. Mine kicked in at $19.99 for 4K and I'll gladly pay it. Some of the folks claiming the high expense can be some of the same type of people who don't bat an eyelash when buying $5 coffees everyday at Starbucks. Both are luxuries, too.

I’m not so sure mate. Things are pretty grim in the U.K. by November energy bills could be over £200 a month.

I think many will get the illegal boxes and by the time the prices settle, Netflix,Disney+ may be glad to go ad supported, lest they lose 3-4 million customers here.

Plus, I have spoken to some folk who are considering just getting Freesat/Freeview plus which is all our major broadcast channels and catch up apps available through an aerial and broadband or through a satellite that folk get to keep when they cancel Sky tv. (Our Comcast/Direct tv equivalent.)

Disney might have a chance because they are going ad-supported so they will be cheaper. Also, people want Prime for the 1 day delivery so it’s still seen as vital. If Amazon can improve their streaming app and take advantage of their MGM catalogue, they should be ok also.

I see Netflix losing quite a few customers though.

I meant here in the U.S. Outside of the gasoline price increase and inflation, there's no other crisis that I can think of (here in the states) and these folks still seem to have cash to buy their overpriced beverages. I have seen restaurants and eateries already adjust their prices higher to coincide with inflation. I drink coffee but I make it at home cheaply.

With that being said, I don't disagree with your point about Netflix going the ad-route. It seems like the logical next step. Hopefully they'll have an ad-free option. I do get massive value from them at my current $19.99 tier.

I am glad that you feel that way. Even with getting their 4K service for free, I very seldom find myself using it. If Netflix doesn't attract me even when its free, it hasn't much chance of ever getting $20 a month out of me.

Some people are willing to pay $5+ for their Starsucks coffee because for some reason they see value in it. We each define value differently.

When people are complaining about the price of Netflix, it is probably because they see diminishing returns with each price increase. Netflix already costs the most and it is the only service that makes you pay more to view in 4K; their competitors cost less and they do not charge a premium for 4K. Churn is another factor; there are so many services to choose from that people add and drop services more frequently than they used to do. The market is more competitive than ever and Netflix's response is to raise prices and to ponder new usage restrictions.

I have absolutely no doubt they will have their ad free option as well.

Edit: Lee’s link basically confirms ads are coming and it will just be a tier option. The right choice I feel.

It appears the new streaming norm will be with and without ads. As markets saturate vendors will pull out all the stops to remain profitable. Pity the folks that paid $691 a share for Netflix, current price is $225.

No, but I have it on my shelf.

I am still binging my way through All In The Family, so I have not watched the 4K edition. I am a fan of the movie, though.

The right choice is to tell them to pound sand.

For U.K. customers who got rid, it needs to drop prices considerably when ads are added. For example, say £6.99 instead of £9.99 or £9.99 instead of £15 for the dearest.

I honestly think most households will finally settle on just two (paid) streaming services, ads or not.
