Unboxed and set up the Panny 820 last night. The UI made me laugh, because it's still using (or looks to be using) the BD10 spec from when BD was first launched. I thought I was seeing things!
I set up the settings for DV and HDR10, tone mapping, etc. I skimmed through Drive and Northman and will skim through some more today and this weekend. The 4K stuff looks and sounds great. I've yet to try BD/DVD, so that will be next at some point. I've seen folks have trouble getting ATMOS, but I had no problem having my AVR registering ATMOS in the display via the 820. |

Good God man.... how much time did you spend in the Florida sun? There is always room for a dedicated theater...it is NEVER an "extra"... |

You had displays of different sizes all along and it could have been an option for years. I hope it works !! |

When I switched to the JVC from my previous OPTOMA, I was amazed at how little I lost when using the lens shift feature to essentially "blow up" the image to 2:35. This made my dream of a scope screen a reality. I had always assumed that it wouldn't be a viable option without an anamorphic lens ($$$). As a person who is a bear for proper matting, I LOVE how much easier it is to slide mattes vertically rather than horizontally to achieve proper framing. With the number of "lens memory" slots available on the JVC, I find the combo of a quick button press and curtain shift takes 2 seconds to do before the movie. True, the 2:35 mode would eliminate a step, but unless I'm mistaken you would then be showing 1:85 content letterboxed AND pillar boxed within the 16x9 frame(??) Anyways...the feature is there in the latest firmware to try.. |

don't get me wrong when it hits the -30s I wonder what I am doing here, but for the rest of it I also prefer cold over hot. It is easier to deal with (stay indoors, put a thicker jacket/sweater., extra pair of socks if needed..... when you need to go out. Too hot is harder.

But as I've gotten older, and certainly since a bad car accident a few years ago, I feel the cold in my bones. I never complain about the Toronto summer heat anymore. Whenever I'm so inclined, I remind myself that I'm never more than 6 months away from walking my dog knee deep in snow, in pitch blackness...shudder... |

My kids have attended silent raves where everyone is grooving out with bluetooth headphones on. I will take my Sony 285ES which is not in use currently and they can use it inside or out but when outside they can get bluetooth headphones and worry not about how late it is. I love the idea. Esp the part where the 285 gets to be used instead of sitting here in a box. I really wanted to take it there on this trip but it was too large for carry on and too fragile for checked bags. It was already damaged in shipping once. When I got my first projector in 1999, I was in a one bedroom apartment in Menlo Park and if it was practical or not wasn't any concern to me. I was a little concerned about ceiling mounting it but I think we got the deposit back anyway. ![]() |

I don't own boots, I have a tuque (winter hat) but I only use it when there is a large snowfall and it is real cold so I will be shoveling for a long time and i love it when there is a light snowfall (5-10 cm) and it is not too cold (let' say -5C) and I don't have to work to go out and shovel the snow in my short and t-shirt (there is nothing as invigorating) in the sun. |

Well I went to go see Top Gun: Maverick at my local Megaplex Theater and the Movie was Great, but the Picture Quality was not as good as my Sony UHD 4KTV. You guys keep gushing over your Projectors, and some paying very hefty prices I hope the Quality is way better. The PQ was good but didn't have all those bright vibrant colors. The Sound was loud and immersive, but here again my Headphones sounded comparative. This Theater didn't have many Lounge Chairs like in Texas, but the Standard Chairs were okay. Too many people moving about during the Movie, so the Cinematic Experience was not the best. Here in St George won't go back until another Top Gun, maybe Jurassic or Avatar 2!

Speaking of shit cinema experiences -- Mick Garris posted yesterday that he went to go see JC's The Thing in theaters as part of their Fathom Events and said it was awful. It was presented in 1.85:1 (it's native 2.35:1) and had some weird artifacts and there was a bit of lag. He said Fathom uses a satellite feed. He does not recommend Fathom Events.
