Panasonic UB820 - UHD's and Region A Blu Sony Region Free Sony BDP-S6500 - Import Blu's Nvidia Shield Pro - Streaming device on primary TV Amazon Fire Stick 4K - Streaming device on secondary TV I also have built in Apps on my LG and Vizio 4K TV's but the dedicated streaming devices work much better. I also have a PS4 but my wife primarily plays that now. I stick to PC gaming. |

I should add for the sake of brevity Wendell should list the devices he doesn't use in his system.
![]() The UB9000 was around $1000 USD (to answer Steedeel) ... I loved the UB420 but beer was spilled on it while in storage and it got flaky. I figured I should get the best player I can and although the UB9000 is expensive it's not like 10x the cost of most other options. For my region 2 discs (which I don't have many) I use the media server to play them back. Last edited by bhampton; 07-06-2022 at 03:41 PM. |

Views on this guys? Noticed the company getting traction on websites like The Verge. They are launching in USA and globally eventually. Sounds horrific. Talk of interactive, bite sized chunks of content which is my worst nightmare. Coming to smart tv home screens and talks with Google etc. Sounds like they are becoming g more established and their value is over 2 billion now. Last edited by Steedeel; 07-06-2022 at 04:45 PM. |

People are inherently lazy. If they are unwilling to put a disc in a player to watch a movie you can bet they are too lazy to interact with the TV using a remote or app. |

“Glance has reimagined the lock screen of smartphones into a live screen for personalised, LIVE content. With Glance TV, we want to redefine television experiences just as we did with smartphones. This is TV in a way that has never been seen before and is a true innovation that extends the LIVE experience that Glance delivers on lock screens to television home screens,” said Piyush Shah, Co-founder of InMobi Group and President & COO of Glance. “With Glance TV, our intention is to remove the age-old connotation of TV being an idle way to pass time and change the perception of TV as the ‘idiot box’. Glance TV gives users experiences where they can be active while watching TV and can express themselves directly on the big screen, within virtual communities of fellow users,” OK ... Why do anything at all with the lock screen of smart phones ? ... That's a silly place to put anything as it's designed to be ignored. Are they claiming THEY redefined smartphones ? .. Sounds like they are. So, they want to change TV from something you watch to something interactive? ...Have they ever heard of video games or computers ? ok I read more and this is so dumb it could indeed become very popular. ![]() ![]() Last edited by bhampton; 07-06-2022 at 07:06 PM. |

It does feel a little weird playing our movies and not putting in and removing a physical disc from the player. One feature I really like about the Zappiti Neo and Zidoo Z9X media players: playing my videos (PBS) and they can restart where I stopped if we had to quit before the program was over. Just finished Masterpiece - Endeavor. |

Media Servers are extra nice for TV shows for that reason. No need to figure out or dig out the disc you are on they combine the convenience of online with the quality of disc. Plus, it was such a relief to have my full UHD Game of Thrones series backed up. I need to get to LOST and Weeds. I have all 3 of those series in iTUnes but I don't like the quality. When a set has 50 discs in it and one goes bad it's a nightmare.
The more I read about the people making content for lock screens the funnier I find the whole notion. Maybe next someone can make content for folks who have been locked out of TVs via Ransomware. Pay up or ... watch our stuff. ![]() Last edited by bhampton; 07-06-2022 at 07:42 PM. |

Google are backing them too. Seems like a matter of time before we see it here (and the states). It’s not just about content of course. Advertisements will play a big part imo. |

Absolutely... Likely using ads more than anything else.
https://www.androidheadlines.com/202...ed-glance.html Glance provides its services to over 400 million smartphones in the Asian market People need to be pro active in limiting exposure to ads. It's beyond out of control. Last edited by bhampton; 07-06-2022 at 08:46 PM. |

Honestly, in the words of Negan, this shit needs to be shut down’. I can see Netflix jumping on board with this. It has been a concern of theirs for years that they are losing the under 28 age group to Tik Tok and gaming. This live interactive Home Screen seems like a way to connect with younger audiences who tend to love big live event tv and interaction. My concern is that with access to this content on the smart tv Home Screen , more and more people will bypass film and scripted content for this stuff. |

On a separate note, a friend is going to do a complete rebuild of my computer for me. I can't even lift the thing in my present state, but I was able to click with my mouse and buy a whole bunch of computer parts.
It will be my first foray into Windoze 10... if the rebuild is a success. If nothing else, this project makes for a nice distraction from other things. |

Now that my brain is slowly turning to mush, my son has taken over the maintenance of all computer related things in our household... the student had become the master... he's gerryrigged an old raspberry Pi that I would have used as an old KODI box into something that blocks ads to all the devices in our home. If seems to work well enough as I can't say that I've been too bothered overall by them. Every month or so, he'll provide me with a report about how much has been blocked and telling what gear is attempting to " call home"... I find it weird that things like my DENON amp are making the attempt. Although, I don't think they usually have ads on their OSD... Last edited by crutzulee; 07-07-2022 at 12:37 AM. |
