During that era my main source of music was ¼" open reel audio tape (2 channel then 4 channel) and FM radio.

EULAs are not legally binding . When a consumer agrees to the terms specified in the license agreement, they are actually renting or purchasing a license from the vendor. The downside of a license agreement is that it doesn't protect the consumer. The EULA protects only the copyright owner.
not sure I get your point. Are you saying for example

a) when Vudu had in it a guarantee of 3 years for the content that if got removed before the 3 years there is nothing you can do about it even though the EULA said so?

b) when everyone (including Vudu) says it can disappear for what ever reason at a moments notice and you cant do anything about it. That they will be forced to support the content because you paid for it

If A) I agree with you. Extenuating circumstances can make contractual obligations null even with best intentions on all parties.

for example Rogers is a company here that offers Cable, Internet and cell phone services and owns a massive network. Yesterday (very early AM) it had a nation wide outage there are still some that are affected. Is it Vudu's fault if someone anted to watch a film on VUDU that they purchased?

if B) no

I think most people assumed you meant B (since you talked about people reading it) but now it seems it might be A

"Cheaper?" I didn't think that word was even in your vocabulary.

Yes, either of those consoles, even both of them combined, would be vastly cheaper than the computer I am having built, but I much prefer to game on a computer for a variety of reasons. Some of those reasons are behind spoilers as, again, this is kinda going off topic.

[Show spoiler]The selection for games on pc is unrivaled and I like playing a lot of lesser known titles that the consoles do not offer. Further, console games are often way more expensive than pc games; I won't pay $50-$70 for a video game on any platform. It seems like games for pc go on sale far more often and much earlier after release than their console counterparts.

Playing games on a computer allows for what seems like near infinite customization. I like being able to tweak everything to just how I want it. I also prefer using my TVs just for watching movies and shows. I use two 32" gaming monitors that have a resolution of 2560 x 1440, which is the resolution that I choose for every game that I play if supported.

I also do a lot more than just game. For example, I use my computer to backup any blu-rays or dvds that I deem necessary. I sometimes like to convert file types, too. Working with large files goes a lot quicker with a more robust computer.

I always try to build the most powerful computer that I can afford so that it is ahead of the curve for as long as possible. I want a computer that can pretty much run any software that I decide to get for years to come. I typically get about a decade out of a computer. This will be my final build.

Modern TVs are very efficient for gaming. Combined with good ping, I’m sipping around the battlefield like the flash.

I’m devoted to disc for films but gaming wise, it doesn’t matter because games look identical regardless of source. In that case, I just subscribe to PS+ Extra (for PlayStation 5) and you get 400 games for £10.99 a month. Ideal for me because I have been so immersed in VR that I neglected many PS4 games. As a PS5 owner I have access to both consoles games for a monthly fee.

As a bonus, the controller is incredible. Haptic feedback really enhances games to the point I would struggle to go back to regular controllers.

I used to be a PC gamer but HT had to take priority as the expense for both was getting beyond me.

Consoles are just way easier.

I have a ton of vinyl, mostly from the 70's and 80's in a closet under my stairs - I no longer have a turntable.
I have some pretty rare Laserdiscs just lying around my HT - I gave away my LD players.
My son is stockpiling every Bluray and UHD we buy in his closet and in storage units under his bed. I haven't replaced the Panasonic UHD player in my HT since it gave up the ghost almost 2 years ago...
I'm starting to see a pattern here...

Multichannel SACDs (from Quadraphonic recordings made in the 1970s):
https://www.duttonvocalion.co.uk/

(I have a Sony BDP-S6700 Blu-ray player that sends the multichannel SACD signal thru HDMI and a Pioneer VSX-534 receiver that accepts and decodes the multichannel SACD signal via HDMI)

I would connect my computer to my TV if I felt the need before I would buy another console. I feel that the games for consoles are a rip-off...and I hate recurring fees like what you described. Of those 400 games that you subscribe to, what percent do you even want to play?

I didn't figure you for someone that liked things that vibrate, but no judgment here.

So, are you saying that if streaming movies ever looked, and sounded, identical to disc that you'd be fine with digital distribution here, too? That sure is what it sounds like.

Let’s see. This months offerings that I’m initially interested in are Returnal (already put in 12 hours), Red Dead 2, Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted Legacy, Ghost Of Tsushima, Control, GOTG, Mortal Kombat and Death Stranding. Some vast games there and would have ran expensive.

Even with a sale, that would still be some cost. As I see it, I have saved a fortune already. That’s before I dive in to the other games in the catalogue, some of which may be great.

Enough content to keep me going all year and then much more to be added.

Digital films that are identical A/V wise to disc? I would also require a 20 year minimum guarantee of ownership.

Oh, and I like covers and my films on display so there is that also….

You seem to be improving!

You are playing 2.25% of what is being offered..not convinced of the value here. I still hate recurring fees.

The part I underlined is yet another thing that I would expect an all-in streamer to say. It sounds just like their "quantity over quality" mantra to me. I think you're heading towards ...

Different things altogether. For one, I’m a once and done guy for gaming (single player games)

For film, I can watch the same film countless times so it’s a totally different value prospect.

For the gaming subscription, I could buy all the games I mentioned but I would still only play one game at a time. This way, I can complete, move on and save a fortune.

6 games would cost me £300+. The subscription is £130 a year. I’m probably going to get through around 20-22 games this year on average plus a handful of simulation games and shorter indie.

It’s a bargain.

Watched Thor 4 last night and it was quite obnoxious. The Dolby Cinema presentation was great, as was the soundtrack and Christian Bale, but the countless jokes really got tiresome.

I decided to keep my rental copy of Heavy Metal on 4K disc -- the Atmos soundtrack is phenomenal and the video is terrific.

Also placed a second 4K disc order with B&N:

Shaft 4K
The Red Shoes 4K
Double Indemnity 4K
Le Circle Rouge 4K

That depends on what those standards are. The reason I prefer physical media is because it can't be modified or taken away. With games especially digital copies are both modified and taken away constantly.

Whether the games are in 4K, HD, or SD is irrelevant.
