Today is the beginning of next years unrealistic expectations

Clemson is pulling in another solid class, though a bit thin on the OL thus far. There are sure to be more shenanigans (See Hart tweeting he won't be going to FSU, then sending his LOI to FSU) but it's fun to follow today. My twitter feed is asploding with updates. The rel deal is when 2-star and 3-star's really show out (see Aaron Rodgers, Mike Wallace, BJ Raji, Matt Ryan, etc)

There's a lot of intrigue around Cyrus Kouandijo, the top offensive lineman and #3 overall recruit. It's assumed that he's going to end up at either Auburn or Alabama, but supposedly he's really considering New Mexico. Iowa was in the mix but is believed to have been eliminated because he doesn't want to go somewhere cold. Cyrus is from Maryland so it's very odd that he's considering a New Mexico team that has gone 2-22 the last 2 years. Cyrus' brother plays for Alabama but there's some speculation he doesn't want to go there because he could end up taking his brother's spot.

Edit: Cyrus chose Auburn.

You guys usually pull in very solid classes, but they never seem to materialize on the field. I really thought Kyle Parker was going to be a big star in college football, but he really took a step back last season. There's no way he turns down that baseball offer now, which is a shame because he had a lot of potential in football.

I texted one of my buddies this a.m.

"Man this crew sure can recruit. They don't know what to do once they get the kids, but wow"

Our WR core was miserably bad this year. We ended up relying mostly on a true Freshman at the end of the year. Our best RB got hurt and missed the end of the season, TE play was suspect....Those things can affect a sophomore QB pretty heavily. I'm not making excuses for our 6-7 record, but we should be better next year with a more directed offense. I was NOT a fan of our O.C. He was too easy to game plan for, didn't mix things up enough. When fans in the stands are calling the play while the team is at the line, imagine what opposing defenses knew!

That was what cost Randy Shannon his job. He could get the big players to come to Coral Gables, but he and his staff couldn't develop talent to save their lives. The thing about the ACC is that they should be a power conference, it's embarrassing to see how poorly they have played as of late. When you have teams like Florida State, Miami, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Boston College, etc there are no excuses to have such poorly playing teams.

Tony Steward, the #1 ILB and #9 overall recruit, chose Clemson over Alabama. This will likely give Clemson a top 10 class.

We're expected to pickup #2 ILB Stephone Anthony as well later today. Ought to help with the departure of senior Brandon Maye.

Couldn't agree more. Our defense remains stout and the new OC will have plenty of new skill position guys to play with. I like the future (as I always do). Next year won't be spectacular, but WATCHOUT in 2012 when all the young guys have some seasoning.

Someone called Clemson the Washington Redskins of College Football. We win the offseason every year (6 of 7 years with a top 20 class...this could be our 2nd top 10 in 4 years)

Where's that Spurrior hatin fool to be happy with me? !

Iowa has picked up 2 commitments from players from Maryland's DeMatha High School with the signing of 4-star defensive tackle Darian Cooper and defensive back Jordan Lomax. Marcus Coker, who is expected to be Iowa's starting running back next year, is also from DeMatha High School and has been recruiting his former teammates hard. DeMatha is also the high school of Cyrus Kouandijo, who as previously mentioned was also considering Iowa but is expected to go to Alabama or Auburn.

I've heard rumors around here about them going to Iowa, I just didn't see it coming good pick up's though.

More losses for the state

With the amount of talent in the Maryland/DC area I can't understand how Maryland isn't contending for a title every year in both football and basketball. That's one reason I didn't understand the Edsall hiring. He wasn't a very good recruiter at Connecticut and his 2011 UConn class was going to be horrible. They needed a coach who could get the local recruits.

Were just doomed to have this happen. Its far worse living in a talent rich environment and getting none of the elites then living say in Montana .

I usually don't care about recruiting, but I'm excited and surprised that Georgia has a top 10 class in the wake of its 6-7 season and its worst in 20 years.

What kind of season does Richt need to have next year to get off the hot seat? I'm always liked him a lot, and I want to see him succeed. He's always come across to me as a genuinely good guy.

Cyrus Kounadijo, the top-ranked offensive lineman who announced today that he will go to Auburn, is supposedly reconsidering his decision. He has not signed a letter of intent yet and reportedly won't sign it today.

For the life of me, why would he even consider New Mexico? There are over a hundred better college football programs than New Mexico.

New Mexico coach Mike Locksley is from Washington DC and was a great recruiter in that area when he was with Maryland, Florida, and Illinois but I agree it makes no sense to go to a team coming off consecutive 1-11 seasons.

I think landing the (so far) #6 recruiting class helps his cause, but I imagine anything worse than 9 wins gets him an exit. I love the guy, he's truly classy (minus the Florida running onto the field thing) and a good man, but he's become a bit stale when it comes to coaching and his great weakness might be his inability to pull the trigger on some of his assistants.

He did get rid of a couple guys last year (some would argue 1-2 years too late), and he demoted his friend who was the S&C coach this year, and we'll see if those changes pay off.

Updated Rivals.com rankings in recruiting classes. SEC is owning.

1. Alabama
2. USC - So much for probation mattering with recruits...
3. Auburn - Guess that national title helped their cause. Or maybe they're still paying well.
4. Florida St. - I'm hearing they have a good shot at moving up to #1 overall before everythign is said and done.
5. Texas - No surprise.
6. LSU
7. Georgia
8. Clemson
9. Notre Dame
10. Ohio St.

Anyone see the size of the overall #1 ranked HS player?

Jadeveon Clowney - DE Rock Hill, SC South Pointe HS
6"6" 247 lbs 4.6 time in the 40. That's incredible size for a HS senior. Last I heard he was leaning towards Florida St.
