I saw all the best picture nominations except Amour & Beasts..,(Zero - I'm going to see tomorrow) I hope Les Misérables wins it all. The best emotional experience watching a movie in recent memory.
![]() ![]() Disappointed that Hugh Jackman didn't get a nomination and Eddit Redmayne for supporting. I thought they did an incredible job in Les Misérables (can you guess which is my favorite movie ![]() ![]() Also Leo for Django. I thought he was the highlight from that film, more so than Waltz. Also I hope Wreck-It Ralph wins. That was the best animation this year by far. |

Not that it truly matters to the Academy but this is easily going to be one of the least watched broadcasts of the year. I will be watching the opening monologue (if I remember its on) and probably not turning back on after that. There is no reason for the average viewer or movie fan to turn in for. Most of the categories are filled with movies 90% of the population hasn't seen or heard of. Again I know that isn't the point, but some time after they will complain about the ratings being so bad and try come up with a stunt to improve it next year.

For Best Animated Feature, I was pretty sure Frankenweenie, ParaNorman, and Wreck-It Ralph would all get nominations, so no surprise there.
I wasn't sure that both Brave and Pirates! would get nominations though. Maybe it shouldn't be that surprising though, considering that both films were reviewed quite decently. However, both Pixar and Aardman are held to a pretty high standard, and I think the general consensus is that both of these films missed the mark. I was hoping one or two of the foreign animated films distributed by GKIDS would make it into the list, if only to increase their chances of getting a Blu-ray release in the U.S. (like The Secret of Kells, A Cat in Paris, and Chico & Rita in the past couple of years.) I'm shocked that Ben Affleck got snubbed AGAIN! What does this guy have to do to get some respect? Gone, Baby, Gone, The Town, and Argo are three of the most well directed, well crafted films of the last ten years.
I'm a bit shocked at Bigelow getting snubbed too but hey, female directors don't get their due in Hollywood. It's not that surprising when you think about it. They probably feel like she's gotten her Oscar and they don't need to recognize her anymore. Finally, the one that nobody is mentioning but I'm sad about is Rian Johnson's script for Looper. |

Supporting Actor seems to be the most controversial category this year. I for one would have liked to have seen John Goodman nominated for Flight. I liked Django a lot, but I'm still surprised that Waltz was nominated. Perhaps Leo or Samuel L. should have spoken in a few other languages to bolster their chances. |

Kathryn Bigelow was snubbed big time. Lincoln is the sure winner now. Spielberg will get his third Oscar. Argo and Zero Dark Thirty were Lincoln's main competition but they have little chance now because Affleck and Bigelow were snubbed. I'm not saying the others weren't deserving, but based on critical precursors like the DGA, BAFTA's, Golden Globes, Critics Choice, and various critics' prize awards, these were the two biggest shocks of the day.

5 of the 9 were barely released anywhere or came and went without any kind of splash. Django and Les Mis were both real good and have been succesfull but are borderline "mainstream" and Argo and Lincoln are eeking past the 100 million dollar mark again in a non exciting mainstream way. There is very little excitement, intrigue, or real reason to watch if you aren't a huge fan of anyone of those specific films and judging by their box office grosses there aren't too many "huge" fans of any. Again, I know the academy doesn't do it for the public but they almost always seemed concerned afterwords when they are crushed in the tv ratings.
