![]() I'm not denying that there's plenty of cheese in the original Evil Dead, though. What I'm denying are the oft-made claims that there was no intentional humor in the first film. It wasn't a full-on horror/comedy like the sequels, but there was definitely some dark humor in there that was very intentional. |

He's talking about statements that the director made referencing the fact that, in his mind, there's nothing that stops this movie from actually being a sequel that takes place several decades after the original EVIL DEAD. You can call it a remake if you want, but there are several subtle things that point to the fact that it's actually a continuation with different characters.
That, and the fact that the director and Bruce Campbell have said that they want to make a movie that eventually brings the Mia and Ash characters together, which is something that you would only actually be able to do if this were a sequel and not a remake. |

I've been spinning the Evil Dead movies pretty constantly ever since I got my French import of AOD. Especially love watching them with all the various commentaries (I'm keeping my R3 DVD of AOD, since the French BD lacks the Director's Cut commentary)...it's always a hoot to hear Sam, Bruce, et al talk about making these "epics."

Well, that and the fact that Ash's charger is sitting in the back yard of the cabin for no other obvious reason. And the fact that when the presence first enters the house it does it with Sheryl's voice, suggesting that it still has her soul. And a half-dozen other things I'll probably spot on a re-watch.

![]() ![]() I agree there's no point holding your breath for more Evil Dead / Army of Darkness; especially with the lukewarm reception Evil Dead (2013) received. |
