I definitely do not see an either/or scenario between digital vs physical media.
They will squeeze adverts into that sub model, I have no doubt about that.

Well it looks like the Posters here have ran out of steam. With my new 4k TV I have made an observation, that should concern the Apple people. The Smart TV's have Apps that can connect you to any Streaming Provider that you want, but I didn't see anything for iTunes. In order to Stream in 4k to connect straight to the TV or through a 4k Device. Apple does not support 4k yet. You guys are way behind the Streaming Curve!

So, in other words, nothing has changed. You always needed a Apple TV to watch on the big screen. Or that laptop connecting shenanigans. If you are in the Apple ecosystem, it's a no brainer to get a Apple TV. Wait until those guys buy Disney. You can forget about UV and all that from then on. So it will be Bluray/4K Bluray for collecting and Apple for renting. That will be my system.
I only rent a handful of films per year that I don't want to own. Apple will get 4K soon but I think the Disney thing will happen, I honestly do.

If Apple announces a new Apple TV this year, it will likely be 4K. I'll probably get it if it offers other bells and whistles, but 4K alone as the big advancement doesn't excite me. I'm all about technology moving forward, though. It's just that 1080p on a 4K TV looks great already. I know, I sound like those people who said DVD on an HD TV looks great as it is. Maybe I'm easier to please now.

Default Physical Copies or Digital?

I'm waiting to redeem my 4k code sheets to see if Apple finally introduces 4k this year. I hope they'll redeem in 4k on iTunes then instead of 1080p like now.

Well the "Experts" say, the Apple, Disney deal is not going to happen. Disney is just too expensive, almost $300 Billion, that would put Apple in a big hole. Also Apple is too proprietary, and their Hardware just doesn't play nice. So if you are banking on Apple and Disc, you might be headed for that Rabbit Hole and never get out! UV is just a Cloud-Based Locker System, and it has nothing to do with extending or shorting the life of Digital HD.

I'd much rather Apple buy Warner or MGM so their disc releases would come with iTunes codes.

The thing with games is, there is no difference in quality from the very start. Discs are completely different as we are talking high quality audio and high bit rate compression. As we have 4K UHD now, it will be a long time before Digital gets near disc quality. It's basically always playing catch up.
4k streaming with HDR looks better than just about every 4k disc i own so far.

Too many 2k DI upscales on the format right now.

Just go in the 4K section and every time a new title is announced people are saying it will be a lazy port and not worth the upgrade.

Still early in the format but you don't have to worry about things like that with digital streaming.

I know you will counter withsome article or say something about bitrate or compression but it passes my eyetest plugged in directly.

I get over 300 mbps i think someone in here only gets 10 maybe thats why so anti streaming

The fact that experts say it's not going to happen gives me every confidence it will happen

What size tv do you have? It's just I had the pleasure of watching Planet Earth 2 on a friends tv and it is far and away better than anything I have seen streaming wise. I have fibre so I have no issue streaming 4K.

Yes, my Sony UHD TV is Hard Wired straight to my Fiber Feed Switch, and I get all the Bandwidth for Outstanding PQ & AQ for my Streaming HDX Movies. Like you said, it now matches Discs easily. I didn't realize that the new UHD TV's have the capability to access 4k content without a separate Device. I was accessing all my Streaming with my Blu-ray Player, and thought I would need a new UHD Player to access 4k. That's why I was commenting on the Apple, all their followers are still waiting.....Good Luck!

65"

Actually I haven't seen Planet Earth 2 yet but I have heard its the first true demo material for UHD disc.

I just don't wanna spend $40 in something I'll watch once.

I'll pick it up some day

I would say UHD Bluray at its best far outclasses any streaming source.

I obviously would chose 4k over 1080 but I wouldn't say I love the format the way I did DVD vs. VHS or Blu vs. DVD.

Another argument for buying Physical Media over Digital.

TalkTalkTV (UK phone/internet/TV provider) is removing older purchased content from users as they apparently need more hard drive space on their servers!

I definitely do not see an either/or scenario between digital vs physical media.
DRM free would definitely make start buying digital movies

I prefer Plex UI to other digital stores, and I'd love to build a plex collection

lesson is, if you must go Digital, go Apple, Sky or Amazon.

I think the U.K has give up Darren. The only sucesful services seem to be ITunes and Sky Buy and Keep. Both of which do not use UV. Does the U.K care? Nope. I certainly don't. I have my Blurays!

Yes I know how you feel, on my new 65" Sony UHD TV the PQ is amazing and Streaming is no different to Disc. I don't think people really care about watching 4k or DVD/Blu-ray. All most people want is a good uninterrupted Movie. Viewing it in 4k really doesn't make a difference, even DVD or SD will do. For us we would like the best resolution, but Streaming UHD or 1080P is all we need.

"Game Over Man," with this new UHD TV no Discs are needed. The Networking and Apps are unbelievable, I have IPTV and can switch to Amazon, Vudu, Netflix, Hulu, or what ever Streaming Provider I want. If I want to watch UHD there are plenty of Providers to access. Like I said, I can see Discs are a thing of the Past!
