My "negative" posts are still about the movie. Unlike yours, which are about other members. Which apparently is allowed.

Don't talk about me. Talk about the movie.

Kinda hard to talk about the movie when the conversation is constant stalemate by endless nitpicking of promotional material.

How is it hard to make a post saying, "I want to talk about..." or "I think (whatever) looks interesting..." or "I'm looking forward to..." It's a discussion board. You're free to post, respond to, or not respond to, what you like (within reason). Instead of responding to the 'negative' posts, why not try to make a valid - and more positive - contribution to the thread? Negative posts can be easily overlooked. But certain members in the thread can't resist responding to them.

I said the international poster was better than the U.S. one. I said "Doom looks stupid," as an aside, because he's included in the poster. I didn't turn this into this mess. I made a follow up post explaining why I think Doom looks stupid, and posted pictures of the Doom I would have liked to have seen. I genuinely don't see what the fuss is over.

I don't come into the thread and make troll posts. I don't just say "this looks like trash" and leave. I said Doom looks stupid as an aside. Octagon replied. And I replied further, explaining why I felt that way.

It's a discussion board. Not everything has to be "positive." Criticisms, or "negative" posts, don't need to be condemned as long as it's not trolling.

I post plenty of neutral posts. I post updates. I'm not constantly attacking this film. I don't hate on it. I've explained many times I'm open to giving it a chance. But I'm also going to post about the things I don't like about it. We got a new look at Doom's face, I commented on it. With one sentence.

Negative though it was, it's still more on topic and relevant than the posting of GIFs, or posts that concern me personally. I haven't talked endlessly about Doom, so no, I do not repeat myself to the point of redundancy.

But that is what speculation is about. Nitpicking the little nuggets of details we have until the Movie is out.

I don't think it is unreasonable to have some people of the opinion that it doesn't look good and some people of the opinion that it does look good. Neither opinion is right or wrong and both should be allowed for debate. Thats the fun part.

On topic however I am entering into this from a pessimistic angle. I don't think this film looks particularly good and hasn't from the start but I am open to being plesently surprised if it turns out good.

I hope it turns out good as the Fantastic Four are one of the OG properties from Marvel that I grew up with in the 80's and I would love to see them get a high quality representation in a film.

I'm not defending the honor of the movie. I'm mocking the pettiness of the quibbling itself.

The Thing is missing his iconic eye ridges. Yawn.

Kate Mara looks the same in all the posters. Yawn.

And her smile looks forced in the trailer. Yawn.

The two seconds we've seen of Doom look stupid. Yawn

T
Exactly.

The movie isn't out. We have nothing to talk about but the promo stuff. TV spots, posters, promo images. Every thread has discussion on promo material, especially comic book ones.

I didn't see anyone berating any posters who criticized some of the Ant-Man character posters in the Ant-Man thread.

I've posted several TV spots and more. No one really discusses those.

The most 'action' this thread gets is when the "no negativity allowed" people come out to berate other posters for criticizing aspects of the film. What does that say?

This is to anyone: if you think there's too much negativity in this thread, why don't you make positive posts? Why don't you talk about the TV spots and what you hope to see? Why don't you come in and say, "that shot of Johnny flying off looks really cool," or "I hope they make Sue as powerful as she's supposed to be," or "that shot of Reed disarming the soldiers looks fun."

Why do you only reply to this thread when it's to criticize a poster who is criticizing the film?

bobbydrugar, I hope it turns out well, too. I think, bare minimum, the action should be good. The action in the 2005 one wasn't impressive, interesting, or anything new. I'm more concerned about the characters being presented properly. Reed needs to act like Reed, Sue needs to act like Sue. The only one who I'm sure they're going to nail is Johnny. Like you, I'm a fan of the Fantastic Four, and I'm definitely hoping it's just the trailers that are lackluster and that the actual film is good.

The trailers for Kingsman: The Secret Service didn't connect with me, but I saw the film and loved it. I hope that's the case here, because it's pretty disappointing that the FF haven't really had their time yet and received a high quality representation in film.

I'm really not one of those people who decides they're going to protest a film before they see so much as a trailer, but every time I hear something about this movie, I roll my eyes. Miles Teller? Josh Gad? Who's casting this Thing?

I have no interest in the young FF. The Ultimate comics aren't half as interesting as the seasoned explorers from the 616 comics. Fox thinks they need to cater to young people, you know, because The Avengers had a bunch of twenty year olds in the main roles, like RDJr, Evans, Hemsworth, Ruffalo, Jackson...

I don't want a CW version of the FF. We already got our "MTV Fantastic Four" with the first two movies.

Ben Grimm should be built like a linebacker and be the tough guy from a rough neighborhood who has a heart of gold. Gad is not only chunky, he's too "soft." If Miles Teller and Josh Gad are Reed and Ben, they're going to look like a pair of nerds from some teen comedy movie. It destroys the dynamic they've always had of Ben being the big, physical, football-player who you would never guess would be best friends with a guy like Reed, but they're like brothers.

I'm not getting my panties into a bunch. I'm not against this movie because it's not what I want. It's because Fox doesn't care about the FF and is only making this movie because comic books are hot, big money makers now and it's one of two comic book properties they have. They bought the rights from Marvel fair and square, so we can't blame them for wanting to cash in, but they could at least try to respect the source material and put a good adaptation on screen.

I want Marvel/Disney to regain the rights because they get their characters right. It's not because I want to see Thing vs. Hulk (but hell yes, I want to see that), or because I want to see Reed talk with Tony and Hank. It's because we'd finally get a "true" FF movie. Marvel might cast someone like Naomi Watts or Alice Eve as Sue, whereas Fox has the "eww, she's, like, old" mentality.

If the movie ends up being good, I'd eat my hat and see it. But I just can't get excited for this film and worry for it more and more with each rumor or piece of news.

Rant over.
First post from DisneyBlu in the thread, I especially like how he'd eat his hat if it ended up being good.

So far nothing I've seen excites me about this movie, and I assure everyone it's not because I have my mind made up about it. When the trailer first dropped, I even said it doesn't look bad... it looks competently made, even though it does look like a generic sci-fi movie, or like a Young Adult novel adaptation. Nothing has excited or grabbed me.

But if the reviews come out and people are saying it's good, I'll check it out. It might not be the Fantastic Four movie I wanted, but if I see it and it's at least good, I can like the movie despite any hangups I've had with it.

You're free to have this idea of me as someone who has an unhealthy hatred of this movie, but I don't. A couple of us were even joking around about that magazine cover a page or two back - I said Trank "cast his best friends as the helicopters." If I hated this movie, as you claim I do, I wouldn't have made a joke like that. I'd understand if I came into this thread spreading negativity every single time something comes out, but I don't. A lot of the time I just post something without saying anything.

Yeah, I have a lot of problems with this movie, and I've aired my criticisms openly, but I've been fair to it. It looks like a generic sci-fi, but the direction doesn't look bad. I'm not fond of the cast, but I understand why they went young and why they picked the actors they did. It doesn't resemble the Fantastic Four I'm a fan of, but if there's enough there that it's a mostly faithful adaptation despite the changes, I can overlook those changes if it's a good movie.

And I have said that before, multiple times: that I'm open to seeing the movie. Once we're closer to release and people have seen it, I'll see what they've been saying. If I hear it's good, I'll pay to go check it out. If it's not, I don't. I won't blindly support it because it's Fantastic Four and I won't blindly hate it because I've seen and read some things about the movie I don't like. I feel that's as fair as anyone can be.
I don't expect you to remember every post I've made in the thread, Foggy, but I've stated several times over the past few months that I'll most likely be seeing the movie in the theater.

As you can see, I don't have this unfounded or unfair hatred of this movie. No hatred at all. My views towards it are fair.

That will be my personal response if I think it's good. Not "favorably reviewed." It can still get good reviews, doesn't mean someone liked the movie.

You dug up my first post from the thread to... what? To prove that I've been saying literally since the beginning that I'll admit I was wrong if I like the movie? Thanks.

I have no problem admitting I was wrong. I want to like the movie and I've been hoping that I'm wrong about it.

So let me get this straight, if someone says one thing bad about this movie that means they loathe this unreleased film and want it to fail and they're not someone who simply has some worries or critiques? This post isn't solely directed at you Foggy, since you are the post right before this one.

Not at all, I don't think any on on the thread believes the film will be bad until we have a good reason to believe so. But when you're the top poster on the thread and your posting stuff like "Dr Doom's lips make him look like a sex doll", maybe you're not contributing to the thread all that much and kinda highjacking it. Like what are you supposed to reply to that "actually I kinda like Dr. Doom's lips"?

It's all sounds so trivial and banal, like I didn't like any of the Terminator marketing, but I didn't stress this much about it, it does suck conversation away from the thread. About ten pages ago a guy said he wanted to keep up a negative atmosphere around the film to ensure the film it would flop. It's nonsense, I understand opinions and not liking something and I in all honestly understand towards this film despite the fact I think it's just been an easy target for most. But you just kinda need to ask yourself is something worth posting. Because at the moment, we can either talk about the pre-meditated reception towards the film, or some international posters and lip gloss? I think I'd rather talk about the former, and those who already have a distaste for the film would rather talk about the latter.

You act like the sex doll comment about Doom was the only thing I said. I used images of what I would like Doom to be, what this Doom resembles, and my issues with the design of this Doom. You're focusing on two words of a fair, and not unfounded, criticism that I had.

And you're complaining about what we're talking about, and if something is worth posting, but you're not even talking about the film. The only people "not contributing to the thread and hijacking it" are posters like you who are redirecting the conversation to posters like me.

I post updates on the film. Pictures, TV spots, news. It's not all positive and it's not all negative. Again - I post these things and they're there, free to discuss. Why don't any of you comment on those - things that actually have to do with the movie - instead of commenting on people posting in the thread?

Here's an example of posting on topic:

Rotten Tomatoes has these exclusive character profile videos, and the Reed one offers some new footage (can't embed):

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/fant...antastic_four/

You can finally see some of the Cronenberg influence Trank aimed for. 0:30 seconds in. Reed is strapped to a table, there's horror on his face, he screams "help me," and he's being prodded by scientists like a science experiment.

That's fine. I don't mind if you buy it or not. I always post my honest opinions of films here. If I was excited for it and didn't like it... I say that. If I thought it was going to be bad but liked it... I say that.

But let's be honest here. If I see the movie and if I don't like it, and if I post a bad review, you and other members in this thread will give me the "you liked it and can't admit it" treatment.

I would understand you feeling that way if I've done nothing but state how much I hate this movie, how I hope it fails, how it's going to be trash... but I haven't. I've said the exact, complete opposite. You can keep acting like I have nothing but a vitriolic hatred for this movie, but for a long time now it's been balanced.

My feelings towards this movie have been: not hyped for it, but it doesn't look bad, and I'll see it if I hear mostly good things. Even if it's not a great adaptation of the comics, as long as it does enough right and it's a good film, I can overlook those things - including my issues with it. For over a year now I've said all of that.

I'm a huge Fantastic Four fan. Me being wrong after giving this movie a bit of a hard time and liking this movie is the best outcome for me. I want to like this movie.
