I hope Boba Fett shows up.

Not teased, talked about, referenced. I hope in the middle of a chase scene or sequence he just appears and starts firing on our heroes and then doesn't die, just leaves and the following films will have that discussion to them as to if he will come back or not.

Yeah, I agree Episode I and II is kind of a toss up. I find them to both be terrible movies, but I'd say that Episode I was the overall duller film, whereas Episode II had both sequences that were better than anything in Episode I but a lot of parts that were far worse than anything in Episode I.

Honestly, you could totally just watch Episode III and be fine without watching I or II, that's how little relevant story or character development occurs in those two films. The setup in Episode III pretty much shows you everything you need to know-- Anakin and Obi Wan are partners and fighting in the clone wars, Anakin is secretly married to this woman Padme who is in the senate, and the supreme chancellor is manipulating Anakin to turn him to the dark side. Almost nothing from the first two films is even relevant.

Both are turds but I prefer The Phantom Menace over Attack Of The Clones. Jar Jar Binks is only surpassed in awfulness by the romance in AOTC. It might have been less painful if it was Jar Jar and Padme in love.

JJ Abrams was the guest on last nights Daily Show and with every interview I find he really liked Star Trek less and less. Hopefully he feels more enthused about Star Wars.

I find this Revenge of the Sith talk interesting.

For me, I will not say if its a good or bad movie. However, I will say that it is a VERY VERY DEPRESSING movie to watch. So damn depressing that I just want to turn it off when it gets to the second half. When I watch a Star Wars movie I do not want to feel that awful after watching it. Now Empire shows you how a dark Star Wars film should be. As had been stated many times by other posters, at this point Lucas got hopelessly lost in it's story and just could not resolve it satisfactory.

Which is why I feel that there is a new hope for the upcoming films. Much better writing. (fingers crossed)

Well, how the heck did you expect Revenge of the Sith to end? Even if you don't like how Lucas executed it, he had this planned out for a long time! This is the origin of Darth Vader and the evil Empire!

Strange that you think Revenge of the Sith is so depressing a movie, and yet you obviously have an affection for Blade Runner, where the atmosphere itself exudes depression. (I love Blade Runner, btw)

But I also hope for better writing with the next three chapters.

And everything felt rushed, especially in the last 40 minutes when all the shit goes down. Anakin's turn to the darkside felt like we missed a couple of scenes, and Palpatine's actual play to turn the Republic into the Empire wasn't believable because it wasn't fleshed out properly.

As a fan of Episode III for the most part, I think most of the problems come from Episode I and II, which I thought were dreadful movies. Those films failed to build up to Episode III properly-- things like the clone wars, Anakin and Obi Wan's friendship, and characters like Bail Organa should have been more prominent in the first two movies, so you actually cared about them and what they were doing in Episode III. Luckily, the clone wars animated series goes a long way in actually doing this.
I can definitely agree with your points and I 100% agree that The Clone Wars TV show explains why Ani turned on the Jedi and ended up how he was a lot better than the first two movies.

Attack Of The Clones sucked until The Clone Troopers came to rescue. The Phantom Menace gets my vote especially the fan edited Non-Jar Jar Binks version which improves the film by a milefold.

An edit which doesn't include Jar Jar and even chops down the Pod Racing in half would be my ideal cut.

I'm actually in the minority as I enjoy Episode 2 despite it's flaws, but I'd say TPM was better.

That's what I assumed as well. But he's stated this week that he doesn't want one - that he just wants to watch it as a fan.

Of course, it could be posturing (he doesn't entirely rule it out) but I've never taken Pegg as one to play the media game. It's likely he means it, especially as he's friends with Peter Serafinowicz and has heard first-hand how much of a double-edged sword (or dual-bladed lightsaber) to have a role in something like that.

I seem to recall that a fan once asked George Lucas why the first 2 prequels were so boring, and Lucas said that films 1 and 2 each contained "About 20% each of the story that needs to be told for the lead-up to the original trilogy, whereas Revenge Of the Sith contains 60%."

That explains a lot! Lucas could have made 2 films and they would have been fantastic, pacing-wise!

And that pretty well sums up what was wrong with the prequel trilogy - they lazily concentrated on connecting the dots to the original trilogy and never really bothered going beyond a bare minimum to build their own inherent mythology.

What Lucas actually said was that 20% of his backstory was used for Menace and Clones -- not 20% of the backstory in each film, 20% total -- and by the time he got to Revenge of the Sith, there wasn't enough time for the remaining 80%, and he said he only got 60% into the film. He's essentially admitting 20% of his backstory was never filmed. He excused this saying that in Episodes 1 and 2, he had the opportunity to play around in his universe, like a kid in a sandbox, and when he reached Episode III, he had too much story to tell. This explains the prequels in a nutshell.

But I'd never call Episode 4 boring, or deny it's status as a "masterpiece". There's a reason why so many films try to emulate the success of the series, and even the series itself.

Anyway, slightly off topic question, but do you guys think we'll get to a certain point where a trilogy of Star Wars films will become a regular thing, like once every decade, we'll have directors tackle Star Wars: Episode 19, 20 and 21. or do we think Star Wars will one day run out of it's momentum.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I heard about Disney releasing a Star Wars film every other year. I'm a huge Star Wars fan but without atleast a 3 year gap in between each film (part of the original Saga or not) I feel it will start to feel not so special anymore . If Disney does that, we'll get to a point where we'll take a new Star Wars movie like it's nothing special. We'll get desensitised to them.

As for running out of momentum, I don't think that will happen provided it's done right. There's a lot of lore apart from the Skywalker saga that would be quite interesting to see in movie form. Personally, I'd love to see a film set thousands of years before Ep I, which tells the tale of a time when the Sith were in great numbers and how the Jedi Order was formed.
But if Disney makes movies such as 'young Han Solo', it would really suck. Even if it is good, it'll ruin the character. That's exactly what happened with Vader for some fans.

I grew up watching the Originals and then saw the prequels, awaiting each movie with lots of anticipation and have fond memories attached to them. I'm not an Originals fan nor a Prequels fan, I'm a Star Wars fan .

I rank them (best to least favourite) :

1)Empire
2)A New Hope
3)Phantom Menace (mostly due to nostalgia . Anybody else played the videogame? )
4)Revenge Of The Sith
5)Return Of The Jedi
6)Attack Of The Clones

This right here scares us SW fans the most. Dont !@#$ with Han Solo. I dont want to hear about his backstory. About his troubled childhood, rough parental relationships, inability to get chicks. Or whatever else. Not interested. Leave him be. Hes the best character in the series and has a terrific "arc" from ANH through Jedi.

If they do it...I swear.... someone is going to pay dearly for it.

I don't want to see anybody other than Harrison Ford play the character, it's gonna take me out of the story.

Disney even said they were gonna make a standalone Boba Fett movie. I don't understand the need to fixate only on these characters. Why not new characters, new worlds, different type of storylines and most of all - a new series of ADVENTURES.That's what was missing from the prequels. There's no sense of adventure. I love the prequels but the originals are just 'fun' to watch.

The story of Vader's fall is an interesting tale to tell, but the idea of young Han Solo reminds me of this :

Is it just me but do the much more recent prequels seem more dated then the nearly 40 year old original trilogy? They haven't aged well at all.

That might be because CGI dates faster than practical effects.
