I rewatched Body Heat tonight. Still one of the better neo-noir films ever made in my opinion. Too bad the disc is so mediocre. For photography that is always cloaked in shadow, smoke, or fog, the disc needs to have good compression, but this disc turns shadows and fog into swarms of macroblocking and noise. Don't get me wrong, it is much better than the dvd, but I would love to see someone give this film the care it deserves.

When I saw that first photo, for one exhilarating moment I thought Jeff Bailey's garage might still be exactly as it was in 1947. Oh well. I love these kinds of "then and now" movie sites. Paul Scrabo has a great one for "It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World" (the Santa Rosita Pages)

We now return to our regular noir schedule....

I just ordered three more Indicator Blu-rays from Amazon UK. Body Double, Happy Birthday to Me, and 10 Rillington Place.

Body Double is a nifty neo-noir of sorts, although it owes far more to Hitchcock than to classic film noir. I've got the region free Carlotta French version with the same video presentation, but I want the subtitles on the Indicator release.

I missed the window on the Twilight Time release of 10 Rillington Place, so it's nice to order the Indicator edition.

What do you mean "missed out"? It's still available at both SAE and TT, with no indication that it's on the endanger species list.

The Indicator release is superior anyway in terms of extras, and likely encoding too, so it's a fortuitous mistake if anything

Oops. I must have confused 10 Rillington Place with some other Twilight Time releases that were going out of stock with the big sales. Oh well... I got the Indicator disc for cheap.

There is something really nice about the Indicator series that tempts me to collect them all. They're just a really nice premium product, but at reasonable prices. Perhaps it's just that it's at the start of their series, so it doesn't feel like I have to catch up with a huge back catalog of their titles. Plus, their selection so far has been pretty excellent.

I noticed that the technical specs on this site list several upcoming Indicator releases as being Region B. I'm not sure if this is simply because those soon-to-be-released discs have not been reviewed yet, but I'll always stay cautious unless I know for sure that each disc is region A playable.

They're all region free so far. You can check their official site, as lists the region coding on the product pages (towards the bottom)

Excellent. I'm tempted to double-dip on my Mill Creek Blu-ray of The Wild One, and I might grab the Indicator disc of The Stone Killer instead of the Twilight Time (although I like to support Twilight Time when I can).

Do you mind if I ask.......why? Are you swimming in cash? The UK market would save you boku bucks in the long run, and a region free player would cost less than an autographed copy of whatever release they're offering on whatever month. Beyond that, they license their extras to the UK market and the UK releases have been without question superior editions. They also come at a fraction of the price, which brings up another question - if Indicator gives us a superior release for ~$18 shipped on release date, why is TT still getting away with their "business model" other than blind support?

Lately, we've been able to get many Twilight Time titles for far less than they used to be because of the sales, not entirely difficult now to get them in the $10-20 range.

For me, supporting TT means supporting a local company which gives them the means to release more films that otherwise might never get a physical HD release; several of their releases still aren't available elsewhere (really wish The Egyptian wasn't one of those cases since I missed my chance at it long ago, yes, it does have other releases but it's not easily available or cheap either). That doesn't mean I don't ever import superior releases; extras aren't enough to encourage a double dip in most instances though, only price if the PQ/AQ are the same.

Not every TT release may get an Indicator release.

Without TT, there would be no Indicator, not in its current form at least. It pretty much set the mold for the limited edition model, and the dealings they've done with Sony. Indicator/Powerhouse are basically carrying that model over to the UK, and are even using many of the same extras that were made exclusively for TT's releases.

Just because there is another label now in the UK doesn't mean that the one who got them there should be abandoned now. I think TT deserves support too, and are putting out a lot of titles that will likely never be put out by Indicator.

Who do you guys think is the best male and female Noir star? Who does Noir the best?

Also, would you guys consider Strangers on a Train and the original Cape Fear to be noir films? I kind of go back and forth on it. I can't decide if they're film noir's or just psychological thrillers.
