I'm seeing it on Saturday @ 10:45AM. Outta be interesting.

Seeing it tonight after Venom. This will be the first iconic slasher I'll see on the big screen, and it sounds like a good one to take that spot.

Seeing it tonight at 7:30pm. I cannot wait. My wife just surprised me last night hey, wanna see this tomorrow since my brother can watch our child? Keep in mind she HATES opening weekends cause usually the theater is packed, but she too is beyond excited to see this.

I've barely had anything spoiled minus a few items that don't actually explain what happens, just people's reactions. This is gonna be funnnnnn.

Saw it last night. Quite disappointed tbh. Great look and atmosphere, convincing acting (except for the caricatural doctor), amazing use of the score, but storywise, I found it pretty meh. David Gordon Green did some good stuff in the past in drama and comedy, but I don't think he knows how to direct suspense scenes of the horror kind. Many of which had great potential but, with few exceptions, translated rather blandly as directed (the best bits are nods to the original). There are shocks, but tension? Not as far as I was concerned. I love the original, I like II and even H20 (which are unrelated here sure), and I tried not to get there overhyped. Ah, well. I'll be curious to read other members thoughts.

I saw it Tuesday night. I, too, was underwhelmed. There was a lot to admire -the music, the acting from the leads, the welcome bits of comedy and most, but not all, of the second half- , but there was also a lot that I couldn't help but roll my eyes at. I hated most of the characters and the plot, to be honest, could have used several rewrites. There was one character twist that was both perplexing and unnecessary.

The thing that made Carpenter's 1978 classic work was his expert handling of film's mood and tension, which I think is worth of comparison to Hitchcock. The sequels that followed? About as scary as The Paul Lynde Halloween Special. This one had some decent jumps, but it's not enough. The atmosphere was lacking and there was very little tension. Of course, after...ten? films it might be difficult to achieve at this point.

It's not a bad film, but I was hoping for more. Not anything earth-shattering, but something different and better than what we've had before.

I'd give it a light three out of five stars. I think many will like it, even love it. At least I hope so given the anticipation posted by many in this thread.

Do you think this movie will be looked on more kindly solely because the bar was set so low by some previous entries and because we haven't had a decent/ acceptable Halloween movie in so long? I have a feeling many will over praise it for this very reason.

Yes. But once again, that is not to say that I would put it in the same category as all those horrid sequels we got over the past four decades. It's just...there.

Oh yes what I mean is this movie sounds decent or solid but nothing spectacular. However just because it's better than most of the horrid sequels it will be viewed far more favourably.

And at this stage in the franchise, that's what all future entries are going to be. They can't break from the formula because there's simply nothing else that can be done with Halloween...it's creatively broke.

Question

Losey and spf781-Thanks for posting your opinions. Enjoyed reading them.

For those who have seen it, which sequel would you say is the best: Halloween II (1981) or this movie?
