Even with the addition of Cyrus Kouandijo ESPN still has Florida State ahead of Alabama. ESPN's recruiting rankings haven't been updated to show Cyrus' addition to Alabama, but the story on Cyrus signing said he was not enough to put Alabama's class ahead of Florida State. If Jadeveon Clowney signed with them it'd probably be enough for Alabama to jump FSU, but it sounds like Clowney is going to choose South Carolina or Clemson.

My friends think i'm nuts, but his attention seeking behavior scares me a bit. I'm worried about the decisions he'd make once at school (i.e. future sanctions) due to his love of the limelight. I'm not saying he should change, but in a college town, that can be a blessing and a curse. I'm sure he'll be a phenomenal talent wherever he ends up though.

TCU and Wisconsin were approached to play a Rose Bowl rematch to open the 2011 season but TCU turned it down. The game would have been at Wisconsin and TCU turned it down because there was no return game. I can't blame TCU for turning it down since they won't get a return game and they've already got a tough non-conference schedule with a game at Baylor and against BYU and SMU, but if they go undefeated and are left out of the title game again they'll have nobody to blame but themselves because a win at Wisconsin would have made it very difficult to leave them out of the title game. Wisconsin is scheduled to play UNLV to open their season but UNLV is trying to get out of that game.

Both are much tougher than the past and made bowl games this past year (which doesn't mean much anymore). June Jones is a great coach and has turned the SMU program around, taking a 1-11 program to bowl games in 2 of his first 3 years. They just got their best recruiting class in years and will be a very tough team in years to come.

Baylor has a very good quarterback in Robert Griffin III, who was very good as a freshmen in 2008 but missed most of the 2009 season with an ACL tear. He was good in 2010 but should be even better next season as he'll be fully recovered. Griffin is extremely fast and was a Big 12 champion in the 400 hurdles in 2008 as a 17-year old who graduated a semester early but he gave up track to concentrate on football full time. He was considered a likely candidate for the 2012 Olympics before he quit track.

Ya, June Jones was the mastermind behind those wild Hawaii pass-oriented teams that scored masses of points. At the time I scratched my head at him leaving Hawaii for SMU. It really seemed like a downgrade in coaching jobs. But all in all he's done a fantastic job at turning around SMU. Kinda reminds me of George O'Leary at UCF, who went winless his first year before turning the Knights into a CUSA power.

Former Miami coach Randy Shannon offered Maryland coordinator job
While I think we could do worse I don't think he's much of an upgrade.

He was the defensive coordinator for a BCS Champion and runner-up and only once in his tenure as Miami's defensive coordinator did they have a defense ranked worse than 7th. The NFL is packed with players he coached, like Jonathon Vilma, Ed Reed, Phillip Buchanon, the late Sean Taylor, Brandon Meriweather, Jon Beason, and Kenny Phillips. I think he's a great coordinator and they are lucky if he agrees to come there. I don't get why he's gotten so little interest.

Thats what I worry about how much of it is him coaching or the athletes the U has had the luxury of getting.

Unfortunately for Randy he has gotten so little interest because of the horrendous job he did as head coach at Miami. With the amount of talent on our roster, there are no excuses for his record as head coach. It was a straight up terrible job. But like you mentioned people keep forgetting how good he did as defensive coordinator, this would be a very good pickup for Maryland.

I think he's comparable to Charlie Weis. Both Weis and Shannon were terrible head coaches but both have a good track record as offensive and defensive coordinators. I'll bet Weis is sucessful at UF and Shannon at Maryland. Both guys can probably help with recruiting at their new schools too.

So even watching them as much as you do you think that D was more Shannon then the talent? Cause I doubt he'll get 75% of that talent at UmD.

A lot of it was undoubtedly the talent, but they were also a well coached unit under his watchful eye. What I always loved was the way they could force turnovers when you needed them the most.

Well you're never going to get the level of recruits at Maryland that you can get at Miami given the vast disparity of talent level between south Florida and the Maryland/DC area. But if Shannon can help pluck just a few really good recruits out of Florida each year it will really help UMD with their recruiting classes.

lol I just don't want to see him do an above average job, Edsall get fired and then we hire him as our coach like Miami tried to do

The buzz surrounding Jadeveon Clowney's decision could be undercut by his poor academic record. Two people with knowledge of his classroom performance while attending South Pointe High School in Rock Hill, S.C., have raised questions about whether Clowney will be able meet the N.C.A.A.'s minimum academic standard if he wants to play next season.

No big surprise, Jadeveon Clowney chose South Carolina. According to ESPN Insider's Rumor Central sources close to Clowney said he won't have a problem qualifying academically.

It really would have been a surprise had he gone anywhere else. They delay and all that...such a waste. His boys are all at South Cack, it's been his top choice since his sophomore year... I thought we had a couple percent chance. I'm willing to admit that was wishful thinking.
