When I turn my receiver up so high it cuts off. Sry if the terminology is not correct.

1)what are you turning "up high". The master volume control on the front of the receiver. Or, the subwoofer level control (which usually goes fro, -12 to +12) in the receiver's speaker setup menu?

2)What is "cutting off"? The subwoofer? The receiver?

The master volume. Also the receiver cuts off then comes back on, I assume this is a overload protection. I did some more placement tests and such today still to no avail. I will also say I own the Klipsch sub12 and the velodyne impact 10 and have no problems with those as of output.

It could be, particularly if the speakers are showing the receiver a low impedance at certain frequencies.(or they have a big phase wrap).

It could also be one loose wire strand though. I'd check the speaker wire connections at the receiver and each speaker. Just one strand of wire making contact with the other binding post could cause this. If you want to try narrowing it down....disconnect one speaker at a time(at the receiver) and crank the volume. If you find one certain speaker being disconnected allows the receiver to play loudly without shutting off...it could also be an issue with that speaker(internally).

Sry for the late reply just been slammed at work lately and honestly forgot to respond. That only happens at complete Max volume and I didn't find a particular speaker to cause it. None the less I tried the sub all over the room and in two more rooms and also at a family members HT in his home to the conclusion it is going back. Perhaps I have a defective unit but considering all I decided for a refund. I went with 2 klipsch rw12. I am running out of floor space now with so many subs. Klipsch sub 12, Polk 8" front firing, now the two other klipsch rw12 and a velodyne impact 10. Seems I have a lfe complex as some do here also.

Hello folks, A new guy here. I've been reading a lot of posts on this forum for a while, and finally signed up. I really found this thread very interesting. I am pretty new to HT,and already I can't stop adding equipment!! As you can see by my sig,I purchased the AA HDSUB10. I figured for $83 shipped, how could I go wrong! After about 4hrs of play time,I decided it was time to add polyfill. I noticed a difference immediately. I was suprised that this low budget sub performs so well. So far,I am running 3 subs, with a total investment of $223,plus $3 for polyfill from wally world! My room is 11x19,the three subs work pretty good, but I plan on adding 1 more very soon. I would like to thank Big Daddy for testing these little gems out! I can also tell from reading his posts, that he probably forgot more than I will ever know about audio!!

Default HDSUB12 only pulls 80 Watts from the wall.

I recently and received Acoustic Audio HDSUB12 Cherry.

Using a P3 International Kill A Watt PS, this subwoofer at most, only pulls 80 Watts and 0.5 amps from the wall.

I used Techmaster P.E.B Bassgasm (Ultimate Woofer Test) as well as various dubstep and drum and bass tracks in this test.

THIS IS NOT A 400 WATT RMS SUBWOOFER

.......it is more like a 50 Watt RMS subwoofer

There's a lot of variables that could affect the reading.

To really get an accurate idea of what the amp is capable of you'd need a bank of resistors and know how to measure the rails.

Just a couple things that may be affecting your measurements,

1)source material. Will the source material require the amplifier to produce a given output long enough that your meter can accurately record it?

2)If so, will the amp *need* to pull xyz amount of power from the wall? (capacitors).

3)Voice coil heating will change things a bit as will amplifier temps.

Not saying this amp can or can't do more than 50w continuous. But it's tough to say for sure based on the limited data.

There is now way that this has a 400 Watt RMS amp.

I have a 200 Watt RMS sub from a fairly reputable brand that pulls over 200 Watts from the wall given the same source and content. A class AB amplifier has less than the theoretical maximum efficiency of a class B amp (78.5%). I would say that more than likely we have been the victim of fraudulent claims.

I would be willing to preform more thorough testing if there is interest in a class action lawsuit against this company.

I'm sure your readings are accurate. However for the price point,(and my needs)this sub fits the bill. While I am no audio expert,I am fully aware that in life, more times than not,you get what you pay for. I purchased this sub for $83 shipped. I feel that I more than got my money's worth. This is a low budget item. That is exactly what I was expecting. I made my decision based not on the manufacturers specs, but what many end users felt. Good bang for the buck.
At one point,I started pricing parts to build a sub, this for me,was a no brainer. I couldn't build one for this price, and for my investment, when it blows up and goes to subwoofer heaven, maybe I'll spend some real coin on a real sub. Until then, enjoy lfe,and don't sweat the small stuff.

Indeed. For the money, you can't beat it. I have had my SUB15 for over 3 years now and am still loving it. One thing I know is that, with the sub's volume knob set at 50%, it still shakes up my living room and terrifies the cat.... .

I agree they are good budget subs,i had a HD SUB 12 but it just never rumbled as much as i'd hoped for.I do think they overrate their wattage specs. as previously stated.

Talking AA Sub

Indeed. However, I should have mentioned that I have one the first generation subs. There have been several changes since I purchased mine a few years ago.

Parts Express sells good plate amplifiers. However, they are not exactly the same size as the original amps on the HD-Sub15. You may have to modify the opening to fit the new amp.

Alternatively, you can disconnect the wires of the old amp from the driver and leave it in place to cover the opening. You also need to drill two small holes on the back of the subwoofer in order to use an external amplifier to power the driver. The amplifier does not have to be a plate amplifier. A pair of Dual-Ended Binding Posts from Parts Express will make it look professional. I built a pair of passive subwoofers with dual-ended binding posts a while ago.

Ordered the HD Sub 10 off their website, received the Cinema series 8 inch sub instead today via UPS. Very mad, no help over the phone. Opened up a PayPal claim in hopes that will motivate them to help me lol.

Good news is that and the Cinema 15 sound good together lmao. Just gonna let PayPal take care of this one

Weird thing is that I cannot even find the sub anymore on their site. Must be redoing it or something.

Interesting; DeepDiscount doesn't show any subwoofers, and AA's website is still laughable, so I wonder if something else is going on.

I couldn't find them on E bay either. My guess is that their "manufacturing"connection dried up. It's kind of a shame. For the price,I found that the HDSUB10,really wasn't that horrible. I've had mine for about 3 months, with not so much as a hiccup.

I would love to wonder to what is going on lol. I can't find none of their subwoofers anywhere. The customer support is no use anyway. Just gonna wait and let PP handle this.
