Bad Alchav.

You're doing slightly better with the digital movies but still getting in the way of your own enjoyment because to save money you're settling for an inferior experience.

BJ's Wholesale Club Animals and Blu Ray Audio

Hey,

It's going to be a great weekend for me as my copy of Animals on Blu Ray is out for delivery.

I've been listening to most of my existing PF related Blu Ray audio titles while waiting for this one.

I have the challenge of wanting to listen to these without turning on the projector. I thought that was difficult because you have menus to navigate. However, I've found hitting enter twice when you hear the main menu will start the album. Some default to surround and others default to stereo but the "audio" button on the remote can change the tracks easily without the need for turning on the whole system.

If you think having a dedicated room for movies with dark furnishings is a bit too much for your lifestyle then you be relieved to know how well such a room works for listening to music. Surround sound high res audio is great.

It sounds to me like you view movies more as an investment than something you are passionate about. I have collected every physical format for movies that has been released and never once in my 30+ years of collecting have I ever given any thought to "making my money back" from a movie.

For some of us, movies are not a commodity or good that has monetary value. The joy that movies bring to my life is priceless.

In less capable hands Memory probably would have been a pass but with Martin Campbell at the helm it was worth adding to the collection. Have 9 of Campbell's movies:

Memory
The Protégé
The Foreigner
Green Lantern
Casino Royale (one of my most favorite 007)
The Legend of Zorro
Vertical Limit
The Mask of Zorro
GoldenEye

If he is making a 1:1 back-up he is not losing any quality, but storing movies long term on hard drives is less than ideal. I make 1:1 back-ups of some of my rare discs, but I burn a new disc to store that back-up.

I think the "Bad Alchav" comment was referring to the fact that he was selling the originals after making a copy, and therefore committing piracy.

While I often buy and sell hardware , I find the selling process so tedious and maddening that I'm definitely more a buyer than a seller...
I've bought movies and collections in closeouts of video stores and upon the death of Laserdiscs... I've never sold any software. I know that I've probably given away quite a few valuable titles whenever I've packed up boxes to donate over the years...
I just gave away all my cds...
I once saw how crazy the aftermarket price of my 15 disc HALLOWEEN set got. I imagine it's worthless now that all the movies are in 4K... I'll keep the set for anyone in the house that may want to see the later entries but I was happy to only upgrade parts 1,2 and 4...I have literally used the part 3 disc from the boxset as a beer coaster...LOL..

Now that my daughter is attending U of T, I've found myself at a local store that sells and RENTS every movie released...After passing on the new F13 UHD earlier this week, I went down yesterday with intention of renting it to see if it was indeed the travesty that most competent reviewers agree that it is...
Once I had it in my hand, I just broke down and bought it. My son is ripping it right now before he goes off to school...I have to work and won't be gone until late but when I do get a chance to watch, the ZIDOO will make it easy to flip back and forth between my Boxed set version and this new UHD for comparison.. this is yet another series that I'll keep the boxset of but will only upgrade parts 1 to 4 as my boxset viewing will probably be my last of any installment after THE FINAL CHAPTER...LOL..

IMO that is very Subjective, because you guys with Dedicated High End HT Projectors think anyone with less has an Inferior Experience! So IMO my Sony UHD TV with Fiber Fed Ethernet has Fantastic Streaming Quality!

I'm in a glass house on this as I KNOW that there are backed up DVD titles on my HDs that my ZIDOO picked up on scanning...I know that I'll NEVER watch any of them again but l'm not putting in the work to actively delete them...

The only title that I wilfully have gone on a "dodgy" path on is THE VILLAGE which to my knowledge has never been released on bluray. I still have the DVD, but I screen it in 1080p....

If he bought the disc legitimately in the first place he did not commit piracy. The First Sales Doctrine allows him to sell the used disc later if he so chooses. What he did with the disc while owning it is immaterial. He still paid for it.

The studio got their money when he initially bought the disc. They are out nothing.

If he sells the back-up then, yes, that would be piracy.

Keep in mind alchav21 appears not to know anything about his TV's settings. Have asked several times and no response other than the Best Buy folks set it up. I would wager it has motion interpolation on, noise reduction on, sharpness on, color temperature and frame rate set to who knows what. With all that activated his picture will look similar regardless of most sources. His set is to old to have FilmMaker Mode.

When my TV was delivered it was "set-up", too. They plugged it in, turned it on, and took a picture of the TV's home screen with their phone. Viola! They were done!

I bet most people think that's all that needs to be done. Plug 'N Play & good to go.

I'm quite sure you are right but most don't come to a site like this one and proclaiming something looks a certain way without knowing a little something about their display setting. It is one of the reasons I promote the use of a disc like the one by Spears & Munsil.

I have 3 of Spears disc, the Disney Wow Disc and some others. These are not a replacement for a full on site calibration but they can give you a good idea about gray scale, chroma and luma clipping, frequency response (multi-burst & resolution wedges) and other parameters.
