Going tonight as well. Im still in awe that they make it a direct sequel to the original. Slaps Donald Pleasance in the face imo.

And those increasingly ridiculous sequels didn't?

For those who have seen it, which sequel would you say is the best: Halloween II (1981) or this movie?
Definitely this one.

Seeing this tomorrow morning. I'm so much more hyped for this than anything else this year (besides Venom and Infinity War). This will be the first Halloween I've been able to see on the big screen.

Seen it twice already and a third time tomorrow night. A- from me.

I hate the same 5 minute twist that everyone else does, and I think for me, the kicker is that it comes right after one of my favorite kills in the movie. I was so pumped. And then that.

David Gordon Green did some good stuff in the past in drama and comedy, but I don't think he knows how to direct suspense scenes of the horror kind. Many of which had great potential but, with few exceptions, translated rather blandly as directed (the best bits are nods to the original). There are shocks, but tension? Not as far as I was concerned. I love the original, I like II and even H20 (which are unrelated here sure), and I tried not to get there overhyped. Ah, well. I'll be curious to read other members thoughts.

I hated most of the characters and the plot, to be honest, could have used several rewrites. There was one character twist that was both perplexing and unnecessary.

The thing that made Carpenter's 1978 classic work was his expert handling of film's mood and tension, which I think is worth of comparison to Hitchcock. The sequels that followed? About as scary as The Paul Lynde Halloween Special. This one had some decent jumps, but it's not enough. The atmosphere was lacking and there was very little tension. Of course, after...ten? films it might be difficult to achieve at this point.

It's not a bad film, but I was hoping for more. Not anything earth-shattering, but something different and better than what we've had before.

I'd give it a light three out of five stars. I think many will like it, even love it. At least I hope so given the anticipation posted by many in this thread.
How would you guys rank it compared to the rest of the franchise?

I would say second. But keep in mind, I pretty much hated every film between (okay, 'Season of the Witch' isn't terrible).

I love the new one and see it as the best since the original.
I haven't seen the new one, but I'd rank the old movies much the same way with the exception of putting 2 in place of H20, movie 4 below it and movie the Zombie movies below part 6.

Too much hate for the sequels overall though. Sure 8 is terrible and part 5 isn't that great, but this series isn't as bad as people are making it out to be.

To get a good sequel 4/5 overall it seems is really amazing when you think about it. I mean it’s 40 years later. While I like most of the sequels and have seen all except H1 at the theaters I’m really looking forward to this one. I’d say fans of the series are pretty lucky they got this one right.

Is it a perfect film? No. Is it my favorite in the franchise? No.

But I genuinely don't see how a Halloween fan, or even a horror fan, could rate it under 3/5.

That’s why I question many of the poor views. I mean these films aren’t for everyone. I bet my wife would rate the original Halloween poor also. Not her thing. So an 80 percent is awesome for a slasher film.

In 10 years or less, nobody will care about this movie. It's nostalgia porn, nothing more. The original is a classic. This is instantly forgettable.

Average Rating: 7/10

Not that reviews matter much, but I consider that pretty solid for how most horror films get rated lol

For those of us old enough to remember, the hype around this - and most of the things said about it - is basically exactly the same as was H20 (mind you, so's the plot). Rinse and repeat.

Let's all just be thankful Emma Roberts wasn't cast as Allyson.

I haven't watched the others in years, but I gotta say this is probably 2nd best, behind the original.

I hesitate to rank them, just because it's so very shiny and new. It's definitely towards the top of the list for me. But I find all of them have SOME value except RZII
