Thankfully they've notified me that they're refunding the £6.99 (Stated reason for refund "Item billing error")

Now I can open and watch this bad boy!

I have live chatted and emailed them with no luck,so this ALL refunds mean that everyone that preordered or do I need to email them the graph as well and try for the forth time.great thinking by phil,Amazon's error so should be fair to everyone.

This is a weird situation and it's a little tricky for Amazon. Like you, i'm not entirely sure they intended to list the price as £13.00 on release day and it seems like it could be a brief but very costly error.

Giving a blanket £6.99 refund to everyone who pre-ordered at £19.99 would be a significant loss of profit. That's not even taking into account all the people who jumped on that low price and ordered when it cropped up.

I think this was why they initially tried the 'stonewall' approach. There is after all, a get out clause in their Pre Order Price Guarantee about 'mispricing'. They probably think they can sweep in under the rug. The reality is that 99% of people who pre-ordered won't even have noticed the drop and of the people who do, most probably don't realise they have consumer rights which is why it wouldn't surprise me if amazon just quietly refund only those people who complain - which is pretty shady. But who knows, they may yet pleasantly surprise us

Their preorder price promise clearly states that you pay the lowest price between the time you preorder and the price on release day. It dropped to £13, so that's what everyone should pay.

Believe me, I know - that's what I spent the last two days very calmly and politely pointing out to them. I'm just playing devil's advocate.

EDIT: Just worth mentioning that the e-mail they sent me regarding the refund was actually very nice, offering their "sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused by this situation" I would say that bodes well for everyone else awaiting a refund but strangely it's in stark contrast to the e-mail T-Diddy received basically telling him to get stuffed and take it up with trading standards As always with amazon, the responses seem to be almost entirely dependent on the individual Customer Service Representative

I suspect you're probably correct on this. Like you say, it's (potentially) a pretty costly mistake for them.

I spent about 45 minutes on the chat with Amazon (thankfully the window 'pings' when there's a new message). The representative was pleasant but was definitely trying not to give the refund. The pushback I got was:
  • The price only dropped to £19.00 (current price) - it didn't drop to £13.00.
  • It must have been the earlier version.
  • Pre-order Price Guarantee only covers up until dispatch.
During this time they kept disappearing off for minutes at a time (presumably hoping I'd get bored and disconnect).

They finally said that there'd been a technical issue with the pre-order price guarantee that had prevented the automatic refunds from going out (!).

I'd suggest a good deal of patience and a firm, but polite, pushback on each of their objections will likely have the best results - and luck of the draw, no doubt.

They've certainly been hard task-masters lately. I've found a lot of the agents over the last few months to be very rude and unhelpful.

In my 10 years shopping with Amazon, I've had many items ship out to me and drop in price between dispatch and delivery, and they've always happily refundeded the difference on the basis of me not having received the item yet.

I tried to get a $5 discount on a disc recently and they wouldn't budge.

"It's our policy" they kept saying. And I kept saying "so have your policies changed?" And they wouldn't give me a direct answer - it was always a beat around the bush like "well maybe in the past we made an exception, but we no longer can", "why not? what's different now? when did your policies change?", "it's our policy".

I also had a good run there where they'd allow me to keep adding items to open orders to save on international shipping fees, they stopped allowing that recently too.

sorted out the other half's account, the 6.99 should be in her account in the next few days.

Quote:
Gayathri: I have requested a refund to your payment card for this purchase in the amount of 6.99 GBP. Refunds usually go through within 5-7 business days and you will see this amount credited on your next statement.

Me: fantastic thank you
do you know why this wasn't automatically done?

Gayathri: You're most welcome.
Due to a technical error the automated refund hasn't been processed for most of the customers.

So ignoring the price on Amazon what do people think of the set
Really liking the soft velvety box with the lenticular card
Much better than the Zavvi Steelbook
Looking forward to seeing this in 3d again and listening to the audio commentary on the 2d disc

Mine arrived today and what an awesome set!

The box is very sturdy, the digipack inside is very sturdy, hell even the j-card is very sturdy And the lentucular effect is amazing.

Gonne watch is in 3D for the first time and I do hope the 3D lives up to the hype.

A little bit of Original*Trilogy news, Little White Lies interviewed Gareth Edwards for their latest issue, here's a little bit of interesting information he dropped regarding 4K Star Wars:

"On day one, we were in Lucasfilm in San Francisco with Industrial Light & Magic and John Knowles, our supervisor, he said that they've got a brand new 4K restoration print of a New Hope - it had literally just been finished. He suggested we sit and watch it. Obviously, I was up for that."

Also had e-mail notification from Amazon refunding the £6.99 because of price drop - didn't have to request it, so hopefully, others with be refunded soon.
