Looking good mike!

I got a reco... why don't you run that 'Skynet Edition' stripe across the whole top, move the Skynet stuff to the front and put a tag line on the stripe on the back.

Keep up the good work buddy!

There was a version that was close to that, but the cover looked better cleaner

I am always happy to hear new ideas
It felt like it didn't match the others that well with skynet on the back, I am also doing one for the other versions of the disc (UK US MPEGII and JP)

To everyone involved in this discussion; alexpeters, HanaBi, Gbox85, Kory, wormraper, aggienader08, jordy475, HD Goofnut

Hello all,

I am going to add an opinion as a designer who has done a lot of work and is active on many cover sites as well as a few cover forums...

This is a hobby, everyone should remember that.

Some people are newer at the hobby, and come to free places like these to get help, show their work, or just to chat.

It is my honest opinion that if someone posts work and you think it could use some help, there is a nice way to say it, and there is a negative way to say it.

Kory, you ended up saying a few things constructive to the design, but not in a respectful way. And the beginning comments were completely uncalled for.

Not everyone will agree with this, but any designer can agree that help is always appreciated, but only when it comes sincerely.

Yes it is true, some spend a lot of time on a design, and others work on one for weeks to accomidate their busy lives. This is not really something we need to debate, everone is different. Right now I have no job, so I do spend many hours a day on my covers, but when I had a job, it was broken up more.

Also, Kory, sorry to pick you out again, but "The real world is harsh" is not really a good reason to be harsh here. This is a free community forum. a custom cover thread that wants to welcome everyone to join, and the more that give cover making a try, the happier may of us are. It is hard work and hard to learn, so I have GREAT respect for everonye who tries, and so should you. And those type of comments, don't make people feel welcome.

The world may be harsh, but we don't have to be.

I went through this same thing a couple of weeks ago with kenny3001 who was trying for the first time only to recieve negative comments from a few members. And all it took to help him out was a couple of pointers to get him going.

On the many cover sites, we hold the value that everyone is welcome and we should be respectful of our fellow designers.

So, If we all can't try to be kind to each other, this really isn't the place I would want to be, and others will most likely feel the same way too.

And I will point out that HanaBi is completely right... In the end, we are really designing for ourselves (unless it is a request), that's why it's 'custom', and if someone else likes your work, that's a bonus.

HD, I do disagree that us designers are have to have no life to design, but I'm sure you didn't mean it that way.

And thank you to those that took the time to give some pointers (Including you Kory, you did have good points). It just takes being a little nice, that's all!

Allright, I'm done!

bpm

(Didn't want it to get lost, Oh, and thanks HanaBi, I try to remain classy at all times )

Guess that's your opinion!

And I didn't say he was unhelpful.

And what do you mean by we amaze you?

You mean asking for everyone to get along?

Okay.

Your lack of understanding amazes me!

Sorry, but to me that seems a bit hypocritical coming from you. You and dv8pdx kicked the wind out of me when I tried to share some of my work in here leading me to go elsewhere. I simply unknowingly used his art to create a cover and he had a hissy-fit with you by his side.

While I see your point, and you are right, we need to encourage ALL artist in what they do even if they are seemingly in the wrong. As artist we love to have our ego's stroked by having our work enjoyed or we would not share it. As artist we love to inspire other artist to push the envelope to in-turn inspire us. Bashing another artist for their work shows a lack of maturity... Helping them not only builds them up, but yourself as well.

Coov,

We incourage inspiration and new artists, that does not include those that just take others work and try to change it without permission, even if it is honest. Taking a moment to think before doing so goes a long way...

My problem was not that you used dv8's design to make your own, it was that you did not ask him first.

This is a common courtesy that I figured everyone would understand.

Doesn't this sound like a better way to address it:

Quote:
Hey dv8pdx,

I saw your cover for ______ on the thread, and it really got me thinking that I could one day create covers as good as yours. Now, I am new at this and don't quite know what I am doing yet, so I was wondering if I could borrow your cover and see what I can do with it to create something of my own. I understand your hard work went into this design, so I am more than willing to give you recognition for helping me out. And I would definitely send you my design before posting it for others, to see what you think.

Let me know if this is okay with you; If not, I understand that too.

Thank you,

Coov
Now doesn't that sound like a way to do it without causing any issues?

The fact that you are back here again saying that we are not appreciating new artists, when you didn't show dv8 respect in the first place with your design, shows that you still don't understand our reasons.

I do fully support new artists, and respect their efforts!

I in no way am contradicting my stance on that matter with my previous words here.

And Gbox85, I do agree that we should put out differences aside, but if there are differences in opinion about how respect should be shown to everyone, than I will be deeply sad.

As a member of many cover sites and two other cover forums, I have never seen as much drama as this thread has created. Yes it is a great place to hang out and chat and post covers, and there are some great new artists taking shape..........

But if this thread can't be friendly, constructive and respectful, then what is it here for?

bpm

Oh, and to get back on topic, Gbox85, why don't you fire off a request to Fergubond, he has already done a couple of Chinese titles and might be interested in doing this one too!

I will say this again... I did not know it was someone else's work. I found this particular art elsewhere. Had I known some fan created it I would not have bothered using it. I am a graphic artist and rely solely on my own efforts and creativity. Branding me as a thief in here is far from a welcoming gesture.

Couldn't have said it better.

Wise words. Sometimes people here dont realize that there's thousands of people here from diferent backgrounds, culture, etc and that we don't know what a reaction to certain comment or suggestion may be. No matter what we say or do, we must take that carefully into consideration. Some consider somethings offensive, some don't, but It's not up to us to decide whats right and wrong. Thats why being polite and respectful always work. We dont want to scare people away or discourage them. It doesn't matter if we think that what we said isn't offensive. If we come into a thread full of uknown people...POLITE and Respectful is how we should be

As far as the Coov situation

The way we view other peoples art is subjective and always, ALWAYS have to think that thats someone else's creation before we modify or distribute. By what I see Coov made an honest mistake, heck, I'm probably the most flawed person here, so I've been there. But Coov has to understand that a design is like someones baby, so people get angry when they see that their art has been changed. I think they are entitled to. Im not taking sides, just expressing MHO. BPM and DV8 always encourage and help young and upcoming artists. I am a witness to that. If dv8 got angry, he had a right. Coov, just move on and design a new piece, display it and you shall see what I mean. We need to move on from situations like this and stop bringing up old situations, its not good for the thread.

I'm glad you posted that note BPM, I think many folks needed to see that as to sending a pm saying "hey bro I'm grab your cover and I'm gonna make it better". It helps us upcoming GA's to show respect to people that MAINTAIN this thread and work hard to keep giving us cool covers. There's alot of folks that stopped making covers because of this crap. Fellas lets just think twice before we say or do things around here...

Thats my 2 cents...

PS...

P.s. The text inside the lines on the back of My Sassy Girl is the "10 rules" That is the only part that am sure I want to keep on the back.

Yo Fergubond love the covers!
