Edit: The Atlanta Journal Consitution says that Hawkins is not a football recruit, and is instead the twin brother of 2013 recruit Marqui Hawkins (seriously, naming your twins Marquise and Marqui?).

Does that mean they don't want to go to UGA?

Given how often SEC players are in the headlines for committing some sort of crime I wonder if some recruits just consider doing this stuff a "rite of passage."

they oughta have a tough time fitting into any locker room...i doubt stealing from potential teammates is going to make any recruit well liked at whatever school they choose

Agree, I'm sure their names have traveled all over the SEC by now and I doubt anyone would want them in their locker room.

True, but maybe Cam Newton will inspire them. He's proof that you can be a two-bit crook and bounce back for a hefty payday at another school.

Zing he'll bust in the NFL I'm sure of it, he just doesn't seem to want it bad enough. I think he'll take his top10 payday and his endorsements until he goes bust and be happy.

Well that shouldn't take long. Then again with the amount of guaranteed money and endorsements for rookies it won't matter for Cam.

Florida cornerback Janoris Jenkins has been charged with possession of marijuana. It's the second time this year that Jenkins has been charged with the crime. In January he was charged and accepted a plea deal and paid a $316 fine. Jenkins also was arrested for fighting in 2009 and got probation. Jenkins was expected to be a first round pick and it was a surprise when he returned to school.

It should be interesting to see how new coach Will Muschamp handles this. Muschamp has said he wants to change the culture of Florida so we'll see how serious he is when it comes to his best player. I would expect at least a game suspension but Florida starts the season with easy games against Florida Atlantic and UAB before Tennessee so even if Jenkins gets a game or two suspension they should be fine.

It is appearing more and more likely that Tressel is going to be forced out at Ohio State. The Buckeyes are really lucky that after being out of football for a year Urban Meyer might be willing to entertain an offer. If Ohio State could pull that off they would go from a great coach to a phenomenal coach. Of course all this could be meaningless if Meyer would decide he wants more than one year away from coaching.

Urban Meyer is from Ohio and his first job was as a graduate assistant at Ohio State. Ohio State is one of the top 2-3 jobs in all of football. I would not be surprised at all if he became the coach in 2012. Honestly I think the only way he doesn't become the next coach at OSU is if his health problems are serious enough that he is risking his life if he ever returns to the stress of coaching again or needs more than a year off to return to health. Regardless, I can't imagine Tressell lasting at OSU. Coaches that lie to the NCAA do not keep their jobs.

Florida dismissed Janoris Jenkins from it's team after his third arrest in two years. Jenkins can now redshirt the year and play somewhere else in 2012 (highly unlikely), transfer to an FCS school, or enter the supplemental draft. Jenkins was projected as a high first round pick so there's a good chance he'll opt for the supplemental draft.

BYU accepted a provisional invitation to the Armed Forces Bowl yesterday. BYU now has it's bowl games set for the next 3 years as long as it's bowl eligible and not in a BCS bowl. They will play in the Armed Forces Bowl in 2011, the Poinsettia Bowl in 2012, and the Fight Hunger Bowl in 2013.

Ohio State faces more scrutiny

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State's director of compliance is reviewing at least 50 car sales to Buckeyes athletes and relatives to see if they met NCAA rules, The Columbus Dispatch reported Saturday.

The newspaper reported that a salesman who received game passes from Ohio State athletes handled many of the deals at two different dealerships. Ohio State has since taken the salesman, Aaron Kniffin, off the pass list.

Athletes are prevented from receiving special deals not available to other students. They are not permitted to trade autographs for discounts. Both dealerships display signed Ohio State memorabilia in their showrooms.

One car, a 2-year-old Chrysler 300 with fewer than 20,000 miles, was titled to then-sophomore defensive player Thaddeus Gibson in 2009. Documents show the purchase price as $0. Gibson said he did not know why the title showed a zero for the purchase price and said he was still paying for the car.

If all these Ohio State reports are accurate, there's no way Ohio State doesn't get hit hard by the NCAA. These are very serious allegations that take all the integrity away from Ohio State's athletic department.

Bama's Aaron Douglas found dead

Alabama offensive tackle Aaron Douglas, an All-America lineman two years ago as a Tennessee freshman before landing with the Crimson Tide in January, was found dead in Florida early Thursday.

Douglas was found dead on the second-floor balcony of a home in Fernandina Beach, Fla., after attending a party, according to police.

Witnesses said Douglas, 21, was taking a taxi to Jacksonville after dinner with friends, Fernandina police chief James T. Hurley said in a statement.

The statement said two females apparently invited him to a party while he was in the cab, and he arrived between 11 and 11:30 p.m. He was seen at the residence as late as 2 a.m. before the male resident and others discovered him "apparently dead" on the balcony Thursday morning, Hurley said.

Douglas was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner's office is investigating the cause of death.

No police report was immediately available, according to a dispatcher who answered the phone at the department.
