It looks gorgeous. I'd be perfectly happy to buy another set just for that aspect ratio and grain. i think the 3D open matte blu-ray is as close as we'll ever get though

Also during the shot with Rose at the dining table, at frame right of her hair the grain exhibits artifacts from the processing.

Visible at normal speed, and more apparent when trying to find the matching frame for comparison to the 35mm scan.

The grain as you see on your monitor from a color-corrected still would never be the same on Blu-Ray or UHD. That's the nature of the beast when it comes to home video, it can look pretty darn close but never that razor sharp. Streaming which has exploded since the time of that scan complicates matters further cause even more compression and optimization is needed now.

Yes less "natural" grain is usually a negative, but when shown theatrically on film it never had that level of detail either. The hair looks worse on the scan to me.

Man, glad to see everyone on twitter singing praises for this release, gives hope that Aliens and The Abyss will be stunners as well.

I won’t have the disc in hand until next week so reserving my judgement until then.

We should, however, acknowledge that these boards absolutely nailed what has been done to this remaster of Titanic long before the official rundown came from Lightstorm via Bill Hunt. That is impressive, and just underlines the fact that the collective boards in here will know more or less exactly what has been done to other previous remasters/restorations as well even if wenever get an actual official breakdown like in the case of Titanic.

Hats off to everyone …

So we just blindly accept and totally ignore obvious issues with the disc, just to please you?

No, not at all. I would take the negative comments with a grain of salt. This looks fantastic and I wouldn't be concerned. If you like the movie it's a must buy.

i'm just fast forward little bit that yellow sure is bright and yes i do see sharpness what folks saying so called dnr i don't think its that bad i'm going to keep this i guess because missing line i'll still keep bluray btw

i did used 70.13 gift card balance this and indiana jones dial of destiny 4k and fact that target didn't have neither of them in stock so couldn't like order 1 and used my target gift

didn't want to pay full price still cranky that as soon title came out early tues morning sorry price jump from 30.99 pre order to 40.99 if it would stay on that when was saying pre order all day long mon wouldn't had to pay visa card gotten these free today but i did end up paying 9.93 visa card due to price magically change

i did complain a little bit about this to amazon since went back 30.99 yesterday gave me 20 back on gift card they said was site price issue and should had stay on 30.99 when it was release early 2 am in morning tues not change to 40.99 at all

One person's "obvious issues" is another person's "WTF are you talking about".

I think it's safe to say there is an anti Cameron element that gets in the way of fairly judging something at times.

Right again! I love James Cameron movies and want them to look great on 4K because I'm anti-Cameron.

So people just come here to complain, while citing specific examples of what doesn't look right to them, just to stick it to James Cameron?

Do you hear how nuts that sounds?

I’m no “expert” and it’s no issue to me if people love the release and think it’s definitive or whatever. I wouldn’t try to persuade anyone to think otherwise.

But I just think it’s a pointless release. It’s been established it’s the 4K master used for the blu-ray spruced up with sharpening and AI to make the film look more clean and contemporarily digital. The blu isn’t the most organic either, but I’d might as well just to stick to that and have my 4K player do the upscale since I prefer the film to look more like film. HDR isn’t worth the trade-off for me.

It’s disappointing but no big deal. The blu-ray already uses a 4k master and I’ll just spend the money elsewhere.

There has been months and years of Cameron getting slammed on these boards for perceived lack of attention to his older movies and T2 being botched. Plus a lot of baseless rumors and a few hits regarding how these new masters would be handled since Cameron doesn't like grain on home video.

Users were going absolutely mental over a decade ago when Aliens was going to debut in HD, fearing no grain...history repeats itself etc.

So yeah, there is definitely more bias against than for unless you really love Avatar.

They rate it perfect? I wonder how that could be, even though the BD looked great. I will grab it, when the price is at a sane level. If not, i'll keep waiting like I have for Malcolm X 4K.
