Bye Tressel! I really hope Ohio State will suck for a decade, watching them being good every year is getting very old

Still not good against the SEC just against Akron, Purdue and having the luxury of not having to play teams like PSU, Iowa, exc. more than once in a championship game... I figured he'd have gotten fired in 2-3 years with a championship game now being implemented.

The oncoming punishment to Ohio State is going to have a huge say in how big of a name they can get for their next coach. I still think Meyer is a strong possibility. Regardless, they have a long time to sort it all out. There's no rush.

They are the last team that deserves Meyer's greatness.

Urban's statement

Quote:
Urban Meyer released a statement Monday following the resignation of Jim Tressel as Ohio State's coach.

It reads:
I am committed to ESPN and will not pursue any coaching opportunities this fall. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the people at ESPN this spring and remain very excited about my role with the network this fall.
Jim Tressel has been a respected friend and colleague for a long time. I wish Jim and his family the very best now and in the future
lol guess they'll need to find someone else also might be hard to bring players in if you don't have a coach that'll help them cheat.

OH ST has said they wont hire a new coach until after the season, presumably so they an game plan how to pitch the job to the next head coach.

George Dohrman of SI has an article that should be up momentarily and will shed light on the resignation and its timing. Did he lay out the story and ask for comment? Or is he being given too much credit... Cant wait for the article

Its funny to hear the ESPN OSU players, then hear everyone else. Just like Howard and May said had this been some backup donk he'd have turned them in and been mister punishment, but because it was star players he protected his own reputation (which was already bad from Youngstown State, where he broke rules and had violations), and also his star players.

BUSTED and jobless

Is the Ohio St. head coaching job cursed or something? Their greatest coach ever ended his career after punching an opposing player on the field curing a Bowl game. Their 2nd greatest coach was forced to retire at when seemed the peak of his power from countless off the field scandels.

The SI report says that at least 28 players sold signed memorabilia in exchange for tattoos dating back to 2002... 15 current players total and another 6 or 9 still under the NCAA's four-year statue of limitations. The report also says some players sold memorabilia in exchange for an illegal substance.

Then, the Columbus Dispatch is reporting that Terelle Pryor has been linked to at least six cars and is being investigated personally.

Then theres still the ongoing story involving the 50+ cars with the one car dealer.

...the media is going to start throwing around the term "death penalty."

I always wondered why he picked OSU at the time, I think Michigan was coming off a great season about to be ranked in the top10 (the year they lost to App State.) and he picked OSU? Guess we know why if you can get a ton of cars, and the ability to sell stuff for $$$. I feel like its one thing if you sold a single shirt or jersey, but to make it a career of selling stuff thats a little bit more of a problem.

So much for Tressel's ethics we heard so much about for years instead of trying to stay and face the music he snuck out the back door, he's worse than Lane Kiffin in my opinion.

Ohio State was coming off an appearance in the national title game when Pryor committed. Michigan was expected to be terrible in 2008 as they had just fired Carr and didn't have the players in place for Rich Rod's system. Pryor's decision came down to Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, and Oregon and it's hard to argue that Ohio State didn't best suit his talents. I believe his recruitment was legit and any problems came after he came to Ohio State.

The SI reporter that broke the dam open this weekend on Ohio St. was on Dan Patrick this morning. He said he's uncovered some ugly stuff in sports over the years but even he was shocked at the level of corruption found within the OSU football program. Once he completed his report he called Ohio St. for comment on Saturday and was simply referred to Jim Tressel's legal team, never a good sign. The death penalty won't happen but I cannot see how the NCAA punishment for Ohio St. football isn't historic in nature. I mean we're not just talking people looking the other way over rings being sold, we're talking drug dealers and other street level criminals here. Basically a dirty program top to bottom over a prolonged period of time.

Oh thats right everyone figured RichRod would get him and it would be like Pat White all over again. Yeah no I wouldn't have gone there either.

I know he technically wasn't fired but he was largely forced out by the fans and boosters, who wanted someone "sexier" to take the team back to championship contention. Of course all the fans assumed that coach would be Les Miles but twice he's passed on the job.

There are two kinds of coaches:

1. Those who tell everyone on their staff from coordinators down to waterboys, "If you so much as sniff something going on, tell me immediately."

2. Those who explicitly or implicitly tell their staff, "I don't want to know."

Sadly it seems Tressel is one of the latter. His "little sensor" seems to malfunction in the presence of the money and prestige winning brings.

I was at that game. Maybe that's why I don't like OSU.

On the Jim Rome show today the SI reporter who uncovered most of the dirt on OSU was talking about how Tressel (I believe as assistant coach at the time) would rig raffles for things like new shoes at OSU camps in favor of recruits he was trying to get to commit to Ohio St. Some of these allegations are just mind-blowing.

I think we are all starting to be amazed at how dirty of a program Ohio State was running under Tressel. The NCAA has to do some severe punishment here just to show everyone else the repercussions of their actions. I can't believe some of the facts that are coming out in the last 48 hours.

Trassell won't coach another NCAA school again, at least he shouldn't.

On to a diff topic, I'm hoping this year my team (Louisville Cardinals) will shakeup the Big East Conference. I'm hoping they'll finish 3rd.
