Teenage Groot is just pissed that Starlord is trying to take away his Galaxyboy.

And is it me or does Thanos look like a purple Shaq?

You can shoot anamorphic on large format of course, Rogue One used the Ultra Panavision 70 lenses that were resurrected to shoot Hateful Eight on, I just didn't expect it on Infinity Wars. And a quick check of the specs on IMDB - for what they're worth at this stage - also confirms the usage of UP70 glass. Verr naice.

Yeah, I just posted the IMAX frames for the ones that would match to the trailer screen-caps, I just posted above that I'm guessing that they are doing a center extraction for the scope shots and opening up the frame for IMAX version. The A3X sensor is so damn big that they can get away with it without losing too much detail shooting open gate and pan/scan/reframe for both versions.

You already see in the Thor shot that they are already correcting the barrel distortion that sometimes old vintage glass elongates the faces of the talent. It's already corrected in the IMAX shot, so it's good to see that level of quality control already at hand, I was afraid as I dislike that distortion for example the shot here with Loki,

his face looks a bit too long (which as you know can happen with vintage glass).

But if you're putting UP70 glass in front of that sensor then you're capturing a 2.66-ish image squeezed into it, there's nowhere to embiggen it vertically unless they're cropping the 1.90 out of the unsqueezed 2.66 and masking the 1.90 top and bottom to 2.40 for the 'scope version. Seems like a lot of faffing about although maybe the IMDB info is wrong and they used Super Panavision optics too, these also result in a more elliptical looking bokeh and shallower DOF as is visible in those shots (something being carried over into the VFX, natch) without being an anamorphic lens, so they could shoot 1.90 within the 2.11 open gate and frame up the 2.40 extraction from that.

Yeah man, I'm trying to figure out whether the APO Panatars have a 2x squeeze factor or a 1.3x squeeze factor as that would lend itself better to covering the A3X sensor which is 2.1 at open gate (closer to 16:9) and would allow for cropping/masking which I believe is still happening in most of the shots considering the unique anamorphic qualities (oval bokeh, focus falloff, barrel distortion). It seems like they are using the hasselblad sphericals for most of the VFX plates and the Panatar anamorphics for the dialogue/scenes with the actors.

UP70 glass has a 1.25x squeeze, hence the 2.11 sensor becoming 2.65-ish once unsqueezed (conventional 2.20 5-perf becomes 2.76), as was confirmed in the AC Feb '17 article on Rogue One. It just seems like a bit of a faff to frame for 1.90 inside that 2.65 and then mask off 2.40 inside that 1.90 extraction, for the 2.40 you're losing a fair old chunk of that resolution as captured in both axes.

BUT when you're shooting anamorphic @ 6.5Kx3.1K I guess you've still got a lot of room to play with on that sensor, especially if you're only gonna finish at 2K anyway (though apparently the Infinity War movies WILL be finished at 4K). So yeah, the more I think about it the more it makes sense in order to keep that anamorphic look but still being able to capture an IMAX-friendly embiggened 1.90 frame. I doubt anyone would try such a thing when shooting on regular Alexa as the conventional 2x anamorphics will only cover 2.8K's worth of sensor (open gate is virtually useless in this instance) and cropping 1.90 out of that with a further 2.40 extraction wouldn't look so hot, so they'd just switch to spherical. But on large format they've got more room to groove...

I don't know if you guys have heard about Keaton Jones yet, but lets here it for our boy Cap (and Hulk).

"I don't like bullies, I don't care where they're from" - Steve Rogers

They've invited Keaton to the Infinity War premiere.

He's got people from The Walking Dead, Stranger Things, WWE stars, and pro athletes reaching out to him. Somebody started a gofundme college fund which has already doubled the 20K goal.

It's nice when a story like this breaks and catches fire. It's impossible not to feel that misery he is expressing in that video.

Heh I saw it trending too and at first I thought it had to do with Michael Keaton. Always warms my cockles when I see celebrities using their status to benefit others and improve their lives. Especially since bullying is a big part of the reason I hated school for over a decade.

Whatever you think of the mom, that kid's pain was real in that video and I hope the best for him. Don't let a parent's greed stop you from caring about a child's pain.

I guess he can use that college tuition money for Nathan Bedford Forrest University.

Sad how fast everyone jumps onboard these things without waiting for things to play out.
