Excellent monster battles, visuals and effects.
Dull human characters and their storyline IMO. The whole story theme with the kid connecting with Kong went nowhere IMO. Lost opportunity to make that more emotionally impactful with some real stakes involved which were missing here.
[Show spoiler] Show why Kong cares for her more than any other human so we can understand his reasoning better. Have her life in jeopardy, and Kong has to make a choice to save her between two painful choices. Immediately gives Kong more personality. Just two quick ideas I feel they should've considered.

The theater was as crowded as possible, and I hear this is doing well in theaters. Glad to see it!

That's stupid though. Godzilla is the reason the monsterverse is even a thing. I'm sorry but kong leading the monsterverse without godzilla would be a big no no for me.

No he doesn’t. They don’t call him the King of Monsters for nothing. He needs to be there.

Went to see the movie last night. Everyone in my movie theater was evacuated due to some medical emergency. It happened RIGHT BEFORE THE FINAL FIGHT FFS

Godzilla might be done in the this universe due to rights issues. I just hope they continue with another couple films, specifically more Kong, as I think they can still make some great movies in this universe without Godzilla

Legendary's option gives them the right to renew if they want to within a set period of time whether Toho likes it or not: it's only if they chose not to renew that all rights would revert to Toho. Since they probably put off renewing until they knew if this would be profitable and there'd still be a market after GKotM flopped, the question is whether the delays due to the current unpleasantness have meant they passed the renewal date or not.

Kong: Skull Island gave the humans something to do, and was possibly the most well rounded. This one delivered on the monster fights, but it's kind of just a weird mess otherwise. Not a distracting mess, in the way KotM was, but the kind of mess where I've forgotten a lot of what the human characters were actually doing already and its only been a few hours since I watched it.

Thankfully though, unlike KotM, the humans aren't the main focus of the runtime. They're there just enough to connect plot threads and move us along scene to scene, but they didn't really try and make a big deal out of them. Hell, most of the time what they're doing, or how they get there, doesn't even make sense... but who cares. You're there for Monke V Lizard. It delivers on that aspect.

Still, they could have saved some money and cut several characters, like Kyle Chandler. I get it, MBB's character is underage so they needed him there just to show that she has her dad still after the last film, but like... her dad added literally nothing. He just wanders around a bit looking confused. No arc, no character building. Same with Lance Reddick. They paid him, clearly. He's fourth billed. He shows up for five seconds, and delivers half his line on screen, with the second half of his line ADR'd in. Just... why pay these people?

I really loved how expressive Godzilla was in this one too. He had some hilarious expressions. Like his cocky grin after
[Show spoiler]blasting Kong in the back.
This movie was totally silly. A huge step down from KOTM. At least KOTM had some level of coherence to a story a line. That dude Winegard should be fired and banned from ever doing another Godzilla movie. He can do Kong, but please leave Godzilla alone because he doesn't understand what Godzilla is about.

I kind of agree. If this had been a standalone movie I may have been more forgiving, but considering this is in the same universe and was a direct sequel to the previous films, the film is VERY flawed. So many of the characters are like cartoons - like or hate the previous movies, you have to admit we didn’t have any other characters like this previously. Also the cheesy comedic tone and futuristic technology are a complete departure from the world that has been set up prior. Can you imagine Ford Brody in the first movie flying into the center of the earth in a space vehicle? And everyone hates Stanton from KOTM but he literally sits at a desk the whole movie and says a few one liners that aren’t even that bad. Yet they love Bernie who runs around this movie shrieking and overacting? I think WB/Legendary really betrayed their own universe that they have spent 3 movies building. If the Monsterverse continues I hate to think that this is the tone and vibe we will be getting from now on, but based on the success of this, I fear that’s what it will be.

KotM had a less coherent story lmao. For the monsters and for the humans.

Hated how they treated the characters, and the monsters. The fights were shot very poorly, and they almost wrote themselves into a corner.

Agree to disagree I guess
