Rich, the only 2 Wes dvd's I have are Rushmore and Royal Tenenbaums, as they are the only 2 I think are any good ( I know, here comes the s##tstorm...) But I always like to see if the BD is a vast improvement and this seems like it may be. If not, I usually keep my dvd as the extras are normally identical to the upgrade and unload the BD, as they usually sell used for about what you paid for it.
Don't feel bad, the only Andersons I've ever enjoyed have been The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou and Fantastic Mr. Fox. I only own Fantastic Mr. Fox, and upgrade my DVD copy to BD on a trade-and-save deal at Future Shop, because it had better extras, and stop-motion animation looks gorgeous on BD.

I gave Rushmore a shot, and wasn't too fussy over it. The last time I watched The Royal Tenenbaums, was with my brother when I was 14 and in grade 9. He had picked it out on the Pay-per-view channel, because it had Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson in it, and he was a 12-year old kid that really liked their films. Needless to say, neither of us were impressed. I wasn't impressed because I'm not a big fan of either actor, and he was expecting a typical "frat-pack" type film. I think I may need to revisit it.

I want to get Sanjuro/Yojimbo tonight, 50% off would make it $35. I JUST got an email with a coupon that says "Save an EXTRA 30% off one item" Is this coupon valid for the Criterion sale? Can I use it to get Sanjuro/Yojimbo for $25? Has anyone got this same email and tried? Or is it a YMMV kind of thing? Thanks!

EDIT: I'm sorry, I swore I went into the Barnes and Noble Criterion Sale thread, I will ask this there, I'm sorry everyone for not paying attention.
Yes...you can use the coupon along with the initial 50% off, as it doesn't state a minimum price on the coup.

Are you a member?...Is this a holiday coupon? I just got one of those, but it was for only 20% (I am a member).

Thanks for the incentive! It will pair very nicely with 12 Angry Men!
Oh I know it's too late, but you can still pre-order it as it's awesome. Glad to see you have already though. I do hope they don't cancel as well. 27.99 is still a good price to pay for Anatomy of a Murder, and if they end up cancelling the orders, or if they hadn't had the goof-up, I still would have pre-ordered it at that price. It will probably be like 40 or more in Canada, unless people are able to jump on it when Amazon.ca first puts it up. No sign of it yet.

Are you still looking for suggestions on how to spend the giftcards?

IMO, the 2 films I mentioned are the only 2 that have great character exploration, and that is what Wes does well. Frankly, I am also a big Bill Murray fan, as I have met him several times here in Chicago, he gives 2 of his best performances in these films, although he was great in Stripes....

No I'm not a Barnes and Noble member but I was a Borders, which is why I got the coupon I'm assuming. Theres no minimum requirement on the coupon and no product specified, but it does say in the fine print "may not be combined with any other coupon or promotional discount"

Not trying to scam the system I've just never used one before from them. But man it would be nice to get that set for $25...

Like I said, I need to revisit TRT, as it's been about 12-13 years since I watched it. I really enjoyed Murray's performance in Rushmore, but I just couldn't connect to the film. I enjoyed Life Aquatic because of the parody of Cousteau, the fantastic soundtrack, interesting plot, and because it was humourous. Ditto for FMF, minus the Jacques Cousteau parody obvously.

Rkish, I just looked at your collection and saw you had The Leopard. Why not use the giftcard, if you haven't yet, on Senso? I found that film paired quite well with The Leopard, as it's another Visconti, and takes place during the same time period in the 19th century:

http://www.amazon.com/Senso-Criterio...1547721&sr=8-2

It's also one of Amazon's "cheap" Criterions.

Sorry...I think my reply was confusing. "Too late", meaning that I was able to jump on the Anatomy BD for the discounted price and that it was "too late" as a giftcard choice.

Sure...I'm always open to suggestions!

My wife is a big Tenenbaums fan...that is a first day purchase! She already owns the Criterion DVD of it, that I bought for her.

See my response to jcs913, as I suggested Senso, to pair with The Leopard.

The previous 25% off coupon worked with the sale no problem and it says the same thing on the fine print.

Just drives me crazy.
I'm guessing they use some kind of supply/demand model for pricing rather than try to maintain some kind of price uniformity. I see how it could be annoying, but then that same system is probably also responsible for their relative efficiency compared to say, Barnes and Noble.

I thought about mentioning that bit of information last night. I received mine from Amazon yesterday and threw it in just to check the quality. Being my first Olive Films blu-ray, their menus and presentation are a bit elementary but the transfer on my television represented what I see on the DVDBeaver site. The documentary on the disc sounds good, so I can't wait to watch it.

I told myself not to buy anything during the B&N sale but I cracked and ordered the Three Colors trilogy. Hope it's a good blind buy.

I saw that last night, glad to see that there is a pretty good supplement included. Justifies me dropping twenty plus on a movie that isn't Criterion.
