I can’t stand any of the original films. The Abrams reboot movies are solid and I like them in the order they were released.

I tried a while back to revisit the originals starting with The Motion Picture and my goodness it was booooooooirng and awful. Seemed like a Terrance Malik movie. LOL!

Does anyone here enjoy the Director's Edition of The Motion Picture? I mean, the original version bores me to tears, but i've used the DE as a teaching tool in Editing Class as to how to improve a film by tightening up the edit and and general narrative pace. I prefer TMP: DE over Trek's 3 and 5 any day, if we are talking exclusively about original cast films...

Do you include Generations as an original cast film?

I like TMP: DE. I like that they show this, and the other ones in a marathon on cable every so often, it always happens to play when I've settled down for the evening, so I'll order take out, and veg out on the couch.

I dislike the director's edition intensely, as it trashes the mediocre original sound mix in favor of something actively godawful, especially in the wormhole scene. I find the gains in it (tear scene) overcome by the bad stuff (exchange original bad fx for new cheap low-rez fx.) Director's edition does get points for cutting the shot after Kirk orders 'reverse angle on the viewer' which is among the worst fx shots in any version of the movie, what looks like an out of focus valley of styrofoam.

As for overall rankings ... I only really like TMP, TWOK & TFF. The first one is a movie I love to hate, but also dig parts of dearly. TWOK just works fine as a movie, better than any of the others in spite of budget issues, and TFF is just me grooving on those three characters, regardless of how silly other parts play and the feeble vfx (plus I think Shatner had a better eye for framing than he has been given credit for.)

3, 4, & 6 - The Nimoy directed or produced films -- seem second-tier to me, but still miles ahead of all the TNG films, and those are light-years ahead of those two Abrams-directed monstrosities.

I actually liked BEYOND to some degree, but there was still a ton of fat on it, with the endless climax dragging on and on.

10-year anniversary bump?

The Motion Picture (5/5)
Wrath of Khan (5/5)
The Voyage Home (4.5/5)
Search for Spock (4/5)
Undiscovered Country (4/5)
Final Frontier (2/5)

It's been too long since I've seen TNG films for me to rank, and I only saw the first of the "reboot" films which was mediocre and unnecessary.

Not sure, sorry, just dislike them. I get nothing out of the older Trek films. I’m a fan of the original show and the Abrams films. That’s it. Is that not allowed?

Cmon, it’s a fairly unanimous feeling about The Motion Picture and it’s lollygag pacing. It’s boring. It tries to be 2001-ish in some parts but it fails miserably. It’s perfect for insomnia though....

No need to wish. Some double length episodes and two parters such as The Way of the Warrior and even Emissary were better than some of the actual movies.

I got these on Blu-ray a couple months ago and binged them over a week, including seeing TMP for the very first time. So these are my rankings and ratings.

1. The Wrath of Khan (5/5)
2. The Undiscovered Country (5/5)
3. First Contact (5/5)
4. The Search For Spock (5/5)
5. The Voyage Home (5/5)
6. Generations (4/5)
7. The Final Frontier (4/5)
8. Insurrection (4/5)
9. Nemesis (4/5)
10. The Motion Picture (4/5)

Overall, not a bad movie in the lot, IMO. Tough to pick a ranking with so many high ratings. The bottom five could probably occasionally shift around, depending on what I'm in the mood for. My recent binge was also my first time seeing Nemesis since I saw it in the theater. I recall really disliking it back then, but upon this viewing I have to say I liked it a lot.

Neither have I!

No, really. I've never seen other people be less than enthusiastic about it. My original rating was actually 2/5, btw, so it must've grown on me a little bit throughout the years.

I watched it on DVD many years ago. All I remember is thinking it was pretty boring. Sorry, but that's the extent of my criticism.

However, I've grown much fonder of Star Trek as a whole since then. It has become one of my favorite sci-fi franchises.

I'm almost sure I'll like Wrath of Kahn more whenever I rewatch it.

LOL, yes please rewatch it one day. I think Khan pretty much saved Trek after the debacle of TMP. It's one of the only ones I can recite from memory.

Still get chills from Horner's score.

Sir, our shields are dropping!
Raise them!
I can't!

Lol, love it.

Insurrection may not be the best TNG movie but it is my favourite TNG one because it’s the one that most captures the spirit the TV show imo.
