I should take another picture of it set up on the stand with the updated speaker setup and the new A/V receiver.

It's a great room for it all - no windows, one light on the back wall with a dimmer switch. Color me very happy with my new gear

So, concluding my conclusion...

Refresh rates on plasmas don't matter AS LONG AS it's a multiple of "24" in order to give me the best motion possible.

Because then it doesn't have to convert the numbers to correctly play 24 fps bluray source?

The 600Hz numbers marketed are NOT refresh rates and have nothing to do with 24p playback. If you want a plasma that handles 24p correctly, then you'll need one that has a 24p feature where it refreshes at a multiple of 24. The new V and Z series Panasonics have this feature where they use a 96Hz rate to handle 24p at 4:4. Pioneer sets handle 24p just fine at 72Hz (I think). The 2008 Panasonic 800U/850U models used 48Hz, but "some" flicker problems have been reported.

Minor correction - I believe the Pioneers refresh at 72Hz, and until the V10 came out the Panasonics only had 48Hz in their 24p playback. That 48Hz refresh rate is slow enough to be somewhat perceptible, and some flicker may be noticed. Some find it unwatchable, some think it's no different than movie theaters.

Crap, I swapped the numbers. Didn't mean to do that. Thanks for the correction.

Default soap opera effect

The subfield drive improves upon the motion resolution capabilities of the set, allowing a full 1080 lines without the artificial soap-opera effect of motion interpolation that LCD must use. And even without it, there are no motion blur problems with plasma like you still get even with high-end LCDs. That motion blur is casued by the set's response time, which for plasma is exponentially faster than LCD.

You won't be disappointed with a good Pany plasma.
I've been wondering this but I don't think it has to do ith this, maybe you can help me. What do you mean by soap opera effect? I've noticed that on LCD, especially the best ones (even LED), you get a feeling that you're watching a soap opera, as in you´re in the set which may sound awesome but I hate it personally, it doesn't feel good while watching a movie, maybe for the news is great but not for a movie. Is this the effect you're talking about?

*edit: I always thought this had to do with the fact that on stores tvs are set to vivid and not properly calibrated but haven't been able to confirm it.

I hear ya! Zero info or input inregards to it from me but I quite agree with you about not liking it..it def takes away from the cinematic appeal not to mention the movie watching experience.

It's not as if 120hz is some kind of fraud: it's an even multiple of both 24fps, and the 30fps of digital content. You wouldn't want a plasma (or any other HDTV) that doesn't at least include a 60hz mode so it doesn't have to do any pulldown with digital content. I know the Pioneer and Samsung sets do, but I haven't been able to find a source to confirm if the Panasonics do, or not... if they don't, that would be bad.

They're standard 60Hz sets. The V and Z models have the 24p mode that run at 96Hz, but for all other viewing it's 60Hz.
