I can truthfully say that the first time I was blown away by high-def movies was an HD-DVD version of Batman Begins at Future Shop. They had a ridiculously good TV (very low response time) and the image looked insane, I was sold from that point on.

like.no.other

... and/or:

Damn! Sony kicks ass!

Got my Sony VGN-AR190G(2006 model year) and the rest is history.
House of Flying Daggers was included and really isn't the greatest movie for reference quality, but it did look good.

I like Blu-ray so much, I bought a second BD VAIO.
No matter where I decide to go, I can just grab one of these laptops and have Blu-ray with me.
I can even use the Media Center remote because my player softwares integrate into Media Center.

Whether on the machine's 1920x1200 display or HDMI to the HDTV - Blu-ray rocks!

EDIT: Here...
http://www.mediafire.com/?7k9dclytoyw

This was on the desktop/screen of my AR190G by default - 94MB WMV. Play it full screen.

"Whoa."
That was seeing Casino Royale in a high end electronics shop.

Then when I got my 52" HDTV, blu-ray player and 5.1 sound system and put on Ratatouille, I was awed into being SPEECHLESS. Ran and got my camera and snapped photos to share with my other nerd friends. Also got on the phone to tell a friend how cool it was.

When I saw my first blu ray disc I said "holly shit, $35? I can get that on DVD for $5."

Then I walked by a TV a couple weeks later playing the simpsons and I just sat there in amazement looking at it.

Yeah I remember the first time I saw a 550(I think) in 2006, it was like $800. No wonder PS3 was the most popular model to buy back then. I didn't say anything when I saw the PoTC demo, my mouth was just wide open as I stood there in shock.

I didn't say anything but they were showing Ice Age on the demo screen and suddenly the crotch of my pants got a lot tighter...then I heard a mom standing nearby gasp loudly, cover the eyes of her two year old, and run away.

my wife was pretty embarrassed when the store manager asked us to leave for breaking their "boner popping" policy

I never cared about blu. I have about 2000 DVDs and I was not about to re-buy everyone. I didn't even research it or check things out at Best Buy or Target or anyplace. But once I decided to update my HT I figured why not and bought a player on amazon. I found 1 in my price range that got good ratings from real users not a sales person. It also came with the matrix blu set for free LOL.

I hooked it up the day I got it and the 1st movie I watched was 10000BC... As the movie started I inspected the PQ intently. I noticed the landscape looked amazing and the pores on the actors faces were visible. I then uttered the words that will forever ring in the emptiness of space forever... "woah check that out" as the movie progressed I found myself saying "holy crap look at that" and a "OMG I can even see"....

Truth is the 1st movie I tried to watch was 300 but there was sooo much grain I thought there was a problem and blu was a scam. It annoyed me so much I took it out and put 10000BC in. Havent looked back since
