Aside from decoding Dolby True HD, DTS Master Audio, etc., is it possible for the Onkyo 605 or 705 to output CD's recorded at 44.1 khz to say 48 or even 96?

Does the bass management and all the other THX settings such as RE-EQ get applied to the PCM audio over HDMI? I know when I use multichannel inputs on my current receiver these are all not useable making it nothing more than a 5.1 channel amplifier. If this is the case it would be undesireable for me and I will buy a stand alone BD player and use the receiver I already have for PCM audio signals.

Since the receiver is doing the decoding, this doesn't make much sense. The PS3 will upconvert PCM output from CD though.

On the newer receivers like the 805, yes.

Even on my old 803, Re-Eq was applied on 5.1 PCM, even though THX Cinema was not.

Thanks for the info. I just want to make sure I can use the THX listening modes with PCM audio signals before I paid extra for the high end receiver to do it. I will look into getting the 705 or 805 as they are both on sale at crutchfield.com for about $200 off.

I've had Linear PCM 5.1, Dolby 5.1, DTS 5.1 working on my PS/3 with 2.10 firmware for some time.

I have the audio on the PS/3 set to Linear PCM.

Just yesterday it started to output only 2.0 to the receiver (Yamaha HTR 6190)

After a while I checked the audio settings on the PS/3 and DTS, Dolby, PCM 5.1 check boxes were turned off.

There was an Auto setting and a Manual setting under the PS/3 audio menus. Using Manual I reenabled the 5.1 types of output.

Still getting only 2.0 on my receiver?!?!

The receiver does still get Dolby 5.1 from my TV so I think it is only the PS/3 that has somehow changed.

1) Anyone else ever experienced the 5.1 disappearing on them?

2) How can I get my 5.1 back!

Just solved my problem!

The reason my system went to 2.0 was my son reset some stuff without me knowing.

The way to get it back was to go to the Audio settings.

Choices are Auto and Manual.

When I pick Manual it showed a lot of checkboxes with most of them off.

I turned on every choice, including all the 5.1 and 7.1 choices. If you do this note that it is a scrolling list of choices and you must scroll to see every choice.

My BIG mistake was that after picking everything under Manual I went back to Auto to verify that it was remembering my selections. After a while (a LONG WHILE!) I realized that Auto resets the choices to just two 2.0 varieties.

In other words you should NOT use Auto. Just use Manual.

I guess it is intuitive--once you figure it out <chuckle>
